Reading Comprehension(阅读理解):

  A person's voice can travel, as an electric current, all the way around the world. Today people can use the phone to talk with others almost anywhere on the earth.

  Being able to listen to and talk to a person far away is important. It's almost as nice as visiting the person. But it is not really the same thing. When you visit, you see a person, but when you use the phone, you don't see the person you're talking with.

  Picture phones can be very useful when you have something to show the person you're calling. They may have other uses in the fixture. One day, you may be able to call up a library and ask to see a book. Then you'll be able to read the book right over your picture phone.

  Or you may be able to go shopping through your picture phone. Suppose you see something in the newspaper that you think you want to buy. You will go to your phone and call the shop.
