三、阅读选择。
When I first saw Kai 7 years ago, she was sitting in my front yard, hugging (抱着) my dog Harley. She and her husband Sean had just moved into a small house down the road from us. I think Harley's friendliness interested Kai, just as her interested Harley. The second time I talked to her, I considered Kai to be a friend I would treasure. I felt better just being around her. Her voice was always cheerful.
It didn't take long before everyone in our neighborhood loved Kai. Children and adults visited her home often. Although she already had four cats, she adopted a homeless dog as well.
