And guess what? There is no3because we do the whole thing indoors, so you can’t say, “It was raining” or “It was snowing.” It makes 4to say wrestling is the sport with the least luck.
On our team were two world champions; one of them had been a world champion five times. We5had five people who were national champions. One of them was a guy6the name of John.
John had never been 7in any high school wrestling competition that I could remember, 8he was a national champion. There was nobody locally who could touch him.
One day, we 9a match with our biggest opponent(对手). John went out on the mat, and about a minute and 30 seconds into the match he tried to make a particular10He rolled over, and his opponent11him halfway through his roll. He waspinned(压住)12!
The match was over.
I remember on the way home, one of our teammates tried to13John by saying, “Oh, he just got lucky.” John said, “That’s so stupid. The14presented itself, and he just took advantage of it.”
We used to have this big 15in our wrestling room that the coach had put there: “Luck is what happens when opportunity meets 16.”
John’s opponent was prepared to make use of this opportunity. The possibility of beating John was not17and he knew it. But he waited for the 18opportunity to present itself, and he defeated and pinned a five-time national champion.
In other words, the real19is “Be prepared!” It’s not just finding the opportunity; you have to be prepared to20it.

Recently I was invited to a friend’s house for supper—and had a meal I have never had before.
All the friends invited were a little surprised. It’s not that Ben is unsociable, or a bad cook, but it’s just that he never1more than he has to. So how come he was inviting us round for a meal? Had he bought something2for his friends? He greeted us at the door and showed us into his dining room where a3 -table was waiting for us.“Nothing but the best for my friends!”said Ben. We all sat down and looked4at each other—what was he up to?
Ben returned with four bowls of hot soup.“It’s a mixture of carrots, potatoes and tomatoes,”said Ben. The next5was also a little strange in that we didn’t quite know what it was again. It’s just another mixture of vegetable.
As we ate we chatted and finally the6turned back to what we were eating.“Was there a recipe(食谱) for this,”asked Marina,“or did you 7it up?”Ben put his fork down.“What I cooked depended on what I could find.”Marina was surprised.“But you can find anything in supermarkets these days.”“But there’s8choice in what you can find outside supermarkets,”he replied.
Seeing that we had all finished the food, Ben decided to tell the truth. He had read recently that supermarkets usually throw away 5 percent of their food every day. So Ben decided to look inside his local supermarket bins. There he found food that was slightly out of9, boxes of throw-away vegetables and fruit.
So Ben had successfully provided a decent(体面的) meal for his friends, and made us aware of the fact that there are many poor people who need the food, but the amount of food thrown away is enough to10millions of people.
