Donald was not very good at math. He couldn't understand the teacher's explanations. Even when the teacher explained something a second time, Donald still could not understand it.
“Never mind,” Donald told himself, “I am quite good at other subjects. I'll cheat in the math exam, then I won't be in trouble.”
“I'll sit next to the boy who's best at math,” he thought, “and copy down his answers.”
The day of the exam came, and Donald sat next to Brain Smith, who always was at the top of the class in math.
Donald carefully copied Brain's answers on to his own exam paper.
At the end of the exam, the teacher collected the papers and graded them.
Then she said, “Well, boys and girls, I've decided to give a prize to the student who got the highest grade. It's difficult for me to decide who to give the prize to, however, because two students, Donald and Brain, got the same grade.” “Let them share it.” one of the other students said.
“I've thought about that,” the teacher said, “but I've decided to give the prize to Brain.”
Donald was angry when he heard this.
He stood up and said, “That's not fair. I got the same grade as Brain.”
“That's true,” the teacher said, “However, Brain's answer to Question 18 was ‘I don't know.’ Yours was ‘ Neither do I. ’”

In classroom, your teachers will talk about topics that you are studying. The information they provide will be important for you to know when you take tests. So you must be able to take good written notes from what your teachers say.
Here are the three stages(阶段)of taking notes and what you should do during each stage.
1.Before Class
Review your notes you have taken before you come to class. This will be good for remembering what was covered.Get you ready to understand new information your teacher will provide.
2.During Class
Keep your attention on what your teacher is saying and “the signal words” that tell you what your teacher is going to say and it is important to write in your notes.Examples of signal words are “The most important point…” and “Remember that…”.Be sure to include in your notes information that your teacher repeats or writes on the blackboard.Write quickly so that you can include all the important information in your notes.Do this by writing abbreviations such as med for medicine, using symbols such as % for percent, and writing short sentences.
3.After Class
Rewrite your notes to make them more complete and accurate(准确的)by changing abbreviations into whole words, symbols into words, and shortened sentences into longer sentences.Use them to answer your questions. If necessary, ask your teacher for help.

The way in which we communicate with others can be greatly improved by building a better vocabulary. In our personal life,we communicate and share experiences with others. However, how well we do it depends on(取决于)our ability to express ourselves through spoken and written language.Luckily, increasing(增加)our word power can make us own the skills we need to communicate better with others and can also help us get better results in our study.
When you see a new word, whether through reading or hearing someone say the word, just be ready to take out your dictionary and look it up-learn about the word and anything that relates(与…相关)to it.If you understand the word, you’ll hopefully remember it well.
Meanwhile, you’d better write down words to learn. You can go through the dictionary, magazine and newspaper or even take down the unknown words you hear.Try to review them every day-look at the words and speak them out loudly.Copy the words over and over again, along with their meanings, and you will surprisingly remember themn in no time.
You can also do word searches, crossword puzzles or other word games.Playing these games, you are more likely to come across new words, and when you are caught in new words, study them. The more words you have in your brain’s word bank, the better you will become at these word games. You will be remembering, learning and having fun, too.
Finally, reading is also believed to be an excellent way to learn new words and build up your vocabulary.Read things you are interested in,because in this way,you are less likely to become bored. But dont skip over(忽略)those words you don’t know.Instead, you should remember and use them in your own daily conversations.Use them more, and you’ll surely have a better chance of remembering them.
