A habit is any action that we have performed so often that it becomes something we do almost without thinking. Some of them are thought to be bad habits. People spend countless hours and dollars each year trying to drop these bad habits but often fail. Why? Change is hard work and there is no shortcut to achieve it. However, there is still some advice for you to follow.
First, look at why you do it. In other words, what’s the result of doing this thing? If your bad habit is shouting at people when you are unhappy or under pressure, what do you get from it? It may make you feel a little better for the moment. Or maybe you have a bad habit of leaving your homework undone. The result could be that you get more time to spend on the Internet!
Next, take a look on the other hand. What are you losing because of your habit? Shouting at other people is a bad habit because it makes people around you feel bad and unhappy. Leaving your homework undone is a bad habit because you may be punished by your teacher. Having more Internet time means that you are losing the chance to learn the things that you need to learn. When you think that way, you’ll find that it’s not wise to keep your bad habit! Now it is time to make a decision. What will you choose? I’m sure you will choose to do what you think is more important.

Homework should be done as soon as you get home from school. If you have after-school activities, the homework should be done first. At the same time, it is fine to allow for a snack break and also to allow for stretching(拉伸的)breaks.

Also, you should remember that it is your duty to do your homework. Next time, when you want to depend on Mom and Dad for help, please try to find the answer yourself, because you will learn much, much more that way.

When you have a question, especially something about a science or math, don't always turn to your teacher! It is a good idea to try to find the answer yourself. If this doesn't work, you can also look at the materials in the back of the book. They may guide you to the pages you should look at to help you understand the problem.

Finally, while doing homework, don't think about or do other things. Keep working. Setting a time limit(限制) often helps with this. Different ages decide different amounts of time. 10-15 minutes is good for a child that's aged 6-8. A time of 20-30 minutes is about right for a child aged 9-12. Kids can keep studying for 30-45 minutes from the ages of 13 to 15. This, of course, depends on your abilities to pay attention and stay on tasks.

   A. doing homework is the first thing you should do at home

阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。(共10分,每小题2分)

Homework is a big part of going to school. Unluckily, homework has to be done outside class—during times when you would probably much rather be doing something else, for example, you like going to a birthday party instead of copying out a whole Chinese text. Luckily, there are several things you can do to make homework less work

First, be sure you understand the task. Write it down in your notebook if you need to, and don’t be afraid to ask questions about what’s expected. If you want, you can also ask how long the special homework task should take to finish, so you can plan your time.

Second, use any small pieces of time you have in school to work on your homework. Many schools have study halls that allow students to study or get homework done. The more work you can get done in school means the less you’ll have to do that night.

What if you don’t have time in school to get homework done? You’ll need to think about how much homework you have for a given night and what else is going on that day, and then plan your time. Most high school students have more than two hours of homework a night. If it’s a heavy homework day and it seems like you got a task in every subject but gym and lunch, you’ll need to spend more time on homework. It’s a good idea to come up with some kind of homework timetable, especially if you enjoy sports or activities or have an after-school job.

1.Is homework a big part of going to school?

2.What do students like doing outside class?

3.Where can students study or do their homework in school?

4.How long do most high school students spend on their homework a night?

5.What advice does the writer give students on homework in the passage?
