  My name is Jim Stone. Yesterday I left the house at about three o'clock in the afternoon and didn't get home until 5: 30. I went to see a friend of mine. My friend, Nancy Smith, was ill in hospital. She had to stay there for a long time.

  We talked about some different subjects. We talked about the weather and we talked about our old friends. I asked her if she knew anybody in New York. I asked a lot of questions. She answered all of my questions. Then she asked me if I spoke French, and! said I spoke a little French. She wanted to know if I spoke French with an American accent(口音), and I said I did. Edith Cavell was born in a little English village.She was a clever,hard-working girl and did well at school,especially in music and French.After she left school,her first job was to take care of the children of a rich family in Belgium(比利时).The language they spoke was French,so she found that her school studies were useful.She could understand them easily,at the same time she taught the children to speak English and play the piano.
