【题目】七选五

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

Snow is a subject of great interest to weather experts. 1 One reason is that heavy amounts of snow fall in surprisingly small areas. Another reason is that a small change in temperature can mean the difference between snow and rain.

Just what is snow, anyway? Snow is a form of frozen water. 2 These crystals grow from water droplets in cold clouds. They usually grow around dust particles(颗粒). All snow crystals have six sides, but they grow in different shapes. The shape depends mainly on the temperature and water levels in the air.

3 About two and one-half centimeters of rain has as much water as 15 centimeters of wet snow. About 76 centimeters of dry snow equals the water in two and one-half centimeters of rain.

Snowfall helps to protect plants and some wild animals from winter weather. Fresh snow is made largely of air trapped among the snow crystals. 4

Snow can also influence the movement of sound waves. When there is fresh, soft snow on the ground, the surface of the snow absorbs, or takes in, sound waves. 5 Then, the snows surface will help to send back sound waves. Under these conditions, sounds may seem clearer and may travel farther.

A. Snow contains much less water than rain.

B. Much of the water the world uses comes from snow.

C. It contains groups of ice particles called snow crystals.

D. It is difficult to predict where, when or how much snow will fall.

E. Because theair has trouble moving, the movement of heat is limited.

F. Under some conditions, these particles may grow larger and form solid pieces of ice.

G. However, snow can become hard and flat as it grows older or if there have been strong winds.

How to Communicate with a Deaf Person

Communicating with a deaf person doesn’t have to be as difficult as it might seem. The trick is to be patient, straightforward, and to remember that deaf people communicate visually. Before you know it, you’ll forget you were ever worried!

Method 1: Starting Your Conversation

1 You can do this by moving into the person’s field of vision and waving from a polite distance, or by tapping the person gently on the shoulder. If it’s a real emergency, you can also turn the lights off and on quickly.

Position yourself carefully. Make sure that the light in the room is shining directly onto your face, and that you’re not standing with your back to a light. 2

Find out how the person prefers to communicate. Some deaf people are better lip-readers than others. Some deaf people may prefer to write back and forth or to use an interpreter. Many interactions between the deaf and the hearing require a combination of these methods. 3

Method 2: Communicating through Lip-reading

Keep your sentences simple and use plain language. 4 The more complex your phrasing and vocabulary, the more likely your deaf companion is to miss something. Try to avoid using slang or expressions that aren’t widely known.

When someone else is speaking, don’t turn away from the deaf person in your group. 5 You don’t have to look at the deaf person while someone else is talking, but try to make sure your face is visible.

A. Get the person’s attention.

B. It’s important not talk too quickly.

C. Or, they’ll miss parts of the conversation.

D. If so, it’ll make them feel left out of the conversation.

E. Stand directly in front of the person, at a normal distance.

F. The best way to know which methods are most effective is to ask.

G. Try not to be too difficult when using your words in the beginning.

【题目】 Students and Technology in the Classroom

I love my blackberryits my little connection to the larger world that can go anywhere with me . I also love my laptop computer ,as it holds all of my writing and thoughts .Despite this love of technology ,I know that there are times when I need to move away from these devices(设备) and truly communicate with others.

On occasion, I teach a course called History Matters for a group of higher education managers. My goals for the class include a full discussion of historical themes and ideas .Because I want students to thoroughly study the material and exchange their ideas with each other in the classroom ,I have a rule no laptop ,iPads ,phones ,etc .When students were told my rule in advance of the class, some of them were not happy .

Most students think that my reasons for this rule include unpleasant experiences in the past with students misusing technology . Theres a bit of truth to that. Some students think that I am anti-technology . Theres no truth in that at all . I love technology and try to keep up with it so I can relate to my students.

The real reason why I ask students to leave technology at the door is that I think there are very few places in which we can have deep conversions and truly engage complex ideas. Interruptions by technology often break concentration and allow for too much dependence on outside information for ideas . I want students to dig deep within themselves for inspiration and ideas. I want them to push each other to think differently and make connections between the course the material and the class discussion .

Ive been teaching my history class in this way for many years and the evaluations reflect student satisfaction with the environment that I create .Students realize that with deep conversation and challenge , they learn at a level that helps them keep the course material beyond the classroom .

Im not saying that I wont ever change my mind about technology use in my history class, but until I hear a really good reason for the change ,Im sticking to my plan. A few hours of technology-free (没有科技)dialogue is just too sweet to give up.

【1】 Some of the students in the history class were unhappy with____
