　　In today's world many people seem to be hungry for money. Some of them even lose their lives for it. Money does have its most useful effect（影响）on the poor, but once a person has a rich life, a lot more money doesn't mean more happiness. If money was everything, all millionaires（百万富翁）would have true love, true friendship, good health and a long life. However, this is not always true. Nothing else is more pleasant than the three words which are“I love you”. But can love be bought? I afraid not. Love means to give, not to take. To every person, health and long life are probably the most precious （宝贵的）things. Well, can health and a long life be bought with money? The answer is “No”. Of all the longest living people in the world, few of them are millionaires. True friendship can't be bought either. In a word, where money is worshiped（崇拜）, money can cause brothers quarrel, lovers to hate, strangers to fight and so on. No matter how much money you have, it is still not enough to make you a happy person if you have no one to laugh with, no one to cry for.

朱修之，字恭祖，义兴平氏人也。曾祖焘，晋平西将军。祖序，豫州刺史。父谌，益州刺史。修之自州主簿迁司徒从事中郎，文帝谓曰：“卿曾祖昔为王导丞相中郎，卿今又为王弘中郎，可谓不忝尔祖矣。”后随彦之北伐。彦之自河南回，留修之戍滑台，为虏所围，数月粮尽，将士熏鼠食之，遂陷于虏。
拓跋焘嘉其守节，以为侍中，妻以宗室女。修之潜谋南归，妻疑之，每流涕问其意，修之深嘉其义，竟不告也。后鲜卑冯弘称燕王，拓跋焘伐之，修之与邢怀明并从。又有徐卓者，复欲率南人窃发，事泄被诛。修之、怀明惧，奔冯弘，弘不礼。留一年，会宋使传诏至，修之名位素显，传诏见即拜之。彼国敬传诏，谓为“天子边人”，见其致敬于修之，乃始加礼。时魏屡伐弘，或说弘遣修之归求救，遂遣之。
元嘉九年，至京邑，以为黄门侍郎，累迁江夏内史。雍州刺史刘道产卒，群蛮大动，修之为征西司马讨蛮，失利。孝武初，为宁蛮校尉、雍州刺史，加都督。修之在政宽简，士众悦附。及荆州刺史南郡王义宣反，檄修之举兵；修之伪与之同，而遣使陈诚于帝。帝嘉之，以为荆州刺史。义宣闻修之不与己同，乃以鲁秀为雍州刺史，击襄阳。修之命断马鞍山道，秀不得前，乃退。及义宣败于梁山，单舟南走，修之率众南定遗寇。时竺超民执义宣，修之至，乃杀之，以功封南昌县侯。
修之治身清约，凡所赠贶，一无所受。有饷，或受之，而旋与佐吏分之，终不入己，唯以抚纳群蛮为务。征为左民尚书，转领军将军。去镇，秋毫不犯，计在州然油及牛马谷草，以私钱十六万偿之。然性俭克少恩情，姊在乡里，饥寒不立，修之未尝供赡。尝往视姊，姊欲激之，为设菜羹粗饭，修之曰：“此乃贫家好食。”致饱而去。

去秋人还，蒙赐书及所撰先大父墓碑铭，反复观诵，感与惭并。
夫铭志之著于世，义近于史，而亦有与史异者。盖史之于善恶无所不书；而铭者，盖古之人有功德、材行、志义之美者，惧后世之不知，则必铭而见之。或纳于庙，或存于墓，一也。苟其人之恶，则与铭乎何有？此其所以与史异也。其辞之作，所以使死者无有所憾，生者得致其严。而善人喜于见传，则勇于自立；恶人无有所记，则以愧而惧。至于通材达识，义烈节士，嘉言善状，皆见于篇，则足为后法。警劝之道，非近乎史，其将安近？
及世之衰，人之子孙者，一欲褒扬其亲而不本乎理。故虽恶人，皆务勒铭以夸后世。立言者既莫之拒而不为，又以其子孙之所请也，书其恶焉，则人情之所不得，于是乎铭始不实。后之作铭者，当观其人。苟托之非人，则书之非公与是，则不足以行世而传后。故千百年来，公卿大夫至于里巷之士，莫不有铭，而传者盖少。其故非他，托之非人，书之非公与是故也。
然则孰为其人，而能尽公与是欤？非畜道德而能文章者，无以为也。盖有道德者之于恶人，则不受而铭之，于众人则能辨焉。而人之行，有情善而迹非，有意奸而外淑，有善恶相悬而不可以实指，有实大于名，有名侈于实。犹之用人，非畜道德者恶作辨之不惑，议之不徇？不惑不徇，则公且是矣。而其辞之不工，则世犹不传。于是又在其文章兼胜焉。故曰：非畜道德而能文章者，无以为也。岂非然哉？
然畜道德而能文章者，虽或并世而有，亦或数十年、或一二百年而有之。其传之难又如此，其遇之难又如此。若先生之道德文章，固所谓数百年而有者也。先祖之言行卓卓幸遇而得铭其公与是其传世行后无疑也而世之学者每观传记所书古人之事至其所可感则往往衋然不知涕之流落也，况其子孙也哉？况巩也哉！其追晞祖德，而思所以传之之由，则知先生推一赐于巩而及其三世。其感与报，宜若何而图之？抑又思若巩之浅薄滞拙，而先生进之；先祖之屯蹶否塞以死，而先生显之，则世之魁闳豪杰不世出之士，其谁不愿进于门？潜遁幽抑之士，其谁不有望于世？
