It was Saturday yesterday．Mabel didn't go to school．But she got up early．It was her fourteenth birthday．Her parents wanted to have a party for her．She told her friends about it the day before yesterday．She hoped to do something．She didn't find her parents in their bedroom．She didn't know where they went．She began to tidy the room．About an hour later her mother came back with a basket．The girl found there was much food and fruit in it．And then she heard the doorbell．Her father came in with a box of nice birthday cake！

Mike left middle school and came back to his village．He thinks his parents often do hard work，so he doesn't like to be a farmer and wants to find a light job．He thinks a doctor can get much money．So he bought some books on medicine and studies them at home．Now he's a doctor，but the farmers don't come to see him．He can't get any money．

It's a quarter past three now．Mike is watching TV in the room．His sister Joy ran in and said，“A few children are picking the green pears in our trees behind the house．We'd better go and let them go．”

Mike didn't answer at once．He went to the window and stood there．He watched them for five minutes and then said，“No！”
