Dreams may be more important than sleep. Some people don’t need much sleep. But we all need to dream, scientists say.

Dreams take up about one quarter of our sleeping time.People have several dreams each night.Dreams are like short films. They are usually in color. Some dreams are like old films. They come to us over and over again. That may be because the dreamer is worrying about something.Dreaming may be a way of trying to find an answer.

Some people get new ideas about their work from dreams. They could have been thinking about their work all day. These thoughts can carry over into dreams.

Sometimes we wake up with a good feeling from a dream. But often we can’t remember the dream.Dreams can disappear quickly from memory.

Too much dreaming can be harmful. The more we sleep, the longer we dream. The mind is hard at working when we dream. That is why we may have a long sleep and still wake up tired.

The oil resources which are left will not last very long. This means that all vehicles such as cars, trains, buses, planes and ships that need oil to work will not be able to run.So it will be necessary to develop a new method of transport which doesn’t use oil.Electric vehicles are one possibility. In England, most families have at least one car and this car is used every day.It could be that only one person in the family drives the car to work or for shopping. The number of cars on the road which are almost empty perhaps helps to explain why the oil is used up so quickly. The family car is a very useful form of transport but it is also a great waste of energy, especially if it is compared with buses or trains which use less petrol per person than a car.A car traveling at 80 kilometers an hour uses only half as much petrol as a car which is traveling at 120 kilometers an hour.Clearly, it would be better if there were fewer cars on the road and more speed limits so that the oil which is left will last as long as possible.

About 25%of England’s total consumption(消耗)of energy is domestic-it is used only in the home.Just over 20%is used for transport. Most of the energy is used in industry. It is difficult to suggest any possible energy conservation(保护)in industry because many of the suggestions would mean that some people would lose their jobs.It is important that industry produces the same amount of products using the same amount of workers.

Clearly, conservation is not going to be the answer to the energy problem. The most it can do is to give more time for a better method to be found. The more time we have to develop new sources of energy, the better it is because there is still a lot of work to be done in order to find suitable, safe methods of producing energy.

[ ]

A.

(2)

[ ]

A.

Oil resources which are left will be used up soon.

B.

A new system of transport will be developed.

C.

They will be replaced by electric vehicles.

D.

They waste a lot of energy.

(3)

Which is true according to the passage?

[ ]

A.

A car running at 80 km an hour uses more oil than 120 km an hour.

B.

Family cars can save much more energy than buses and trains.

C.

It is possible for English people to develop vehicles.

D.

Fewer cars on the road will help the oil last longer.

(4)

What is a better way to solve the energy problem?

[ ]

A.

Factories should produce less.

B.

Vehicles mustn’t go at a high speed.

C.

New sources of energy should be found and developed.

D.

We should cut down the number of family cars on the road.

No one knows why we sleep, but it’s certain that we need to.People who are prevented from sleeping begin to suffer obvious effects after a few days-they think less clearly, and they fall asleep during the working hours.

There are no rules about sleep.Generally speaking, grown-ups sleep about 7 and a half hours each night and probably more than 60 percent get between seven and eight hours. But perhaps eight percent are quite happy with 5 hours or less, and four percent or so find that they want ten hours or more.If you feel all right, you’re probably getting enough sleep. The important thing is not to worry how much other people get-their needs may be different.Exercise doesn’t seem to increase the need for sleep-office workers, for example, sleep for about as long as people doing physically active work.

Children sleep more than grown-ups-perhaps 14 to 18 hours soon after birth, going down to grown-up levels by early teenagers.Sleep patterns also tend to be different in the old people, who may sleep less at night than they did when younger, find sleep getting more broken, and often make it a rule to sleep during the daytime.

Clothes are important and necessary to us, but do you know how to choose suitable clothes in a correct way? Here are some ideas for you.
When you go shopping and want to buy some clothes, you should think about which kind of clothes you really need and decide how much money you can spend on them. Then look at the labels that are inside the new clothes. They tell you how to take care of the clothes. The label for a shirt may tell you to wash it in warm water. A sweater label may tell you to wash it in cold water. The label on a coat may say “dry clean only” and cleaning in water may ruin this coat. If you do as the directions say on the label, you can keep your clothes looking their best.
Many clothes today must be dry-cleaned. Dry cleaning is expensive. When buying new clothes, you had better check if they need to be dry-cleaned. You can save money if you buy clothes that can be washed or that are well-made. Well-made clothes last longer. They look good even after they have been washed many times.
