The Blue Lagoon has blue walls, plants, flowers, and a piano player. ) Say, Which restaurant would you rather go to? Talk about it with your parter. Let students work in pairs, and tell each other which restaurant they would like to go to and why. When students work, go around the classroom offering help as needed. When they have finished talking to each other, call out several pairs to say their conversations to the class. Sample conversation SA: Which restaurant would you like to go to? SB: I’d like to go to the Blue Lagoon. SA: Why? SB: Because there are plants and flowers there. Step Ⅲ 1b This activity gives students practice in understanding the target language in spoken conversation. Ask students to read the instructions. Look at the chart and point out the two headings: The Rockin’ Restaurant and The Blue Lagoon. Look at the sample answer. Let a student read the completed sentence, and then say, You will hear the missing words on the recording. Fill in the blanks with the words you hear on the tape. Play the recording the first time. Students only listen carefully. Play the recording again. This time fill in the missing words. Check the answers with the whole class. Let’s go to the Rockin’ Restaurant. I love their hamburgers. Girl 2: Oh, Tina- I hate the Rockin’ Restaurant. Girl 1: Why? The food is great, isn’t it? Girl 2: The food’s fine. I just don’t like the atmosphere. Those awful pictures on the walls make me sad, and the loud music makes me tease. Girl 1 :OK. So where do you want to go, Amy? Girl 2: Let’s go to the Blue Lagoon. The soft music makes me relaxed. Girl 1: Not me. It makes me sleepy. Step Ⅳ 1c This activity provides guided oral practice using the target language. Look at the example in the box. Invite a pair of students to read it to the class. SA: I’d rather go to the Blue Lagoon Restaurant because I like to listen to quiet music while I’m eating. SB: Oh, really? Loud music makes me energetic. SA: Not me! Loud music makes me stressed out. Go through the instructions with the class. Tell students they will be talking about their own opinions with a partner. Look back at the chart in Activity 16. Make up a conversation with a partner using words from the chart, such as awful pictures, loud music and soft music. While students are working in pairs, walk around the classroom, and listen to some pairs. If necessary, offer language support. Then ask some pairs to act out their conversations in front of the whole class. Optional activity Let students look around the classroom, think about other rooms in the school, and talk about how these places make the students feel. For example, what are your opinions about this room? A student might answer, This room is sunny. It makes me happy. Or ask them. What are your opinions about all the noise in the cafeteria? Friends play an important part in our lives, and although we can’t be more familiar with the fact of friendship, we often don’t clearly understand how we make friends, especially with Americans. Here are some pieces of advice on making friends with Americans:
* Visiting places Americans enjoy: parties, churches, restaurants, parks and sports clubs.
* Be willing to take the first step. Don’t wait for them to get close to you. Americans in China may not know you speak English. They may be uncomfortable if they can’t speak your language.
* Use small talks to open the conversation. Ask them where they’re from, why they come to China, etc. Remember: Be careful not to ask personal questions about age, salary and so on.
* Show an interest in their culture, their country or their job. Americans like to talk about themselves.
* Invite them to join you for dinner or just for coffee or tea. Try to set a specific (明确的)time. Americans sometimes make general invitations like “Let’s go out for a dinner sometime.” Often this is just a way to be friendly. It’s not always a real invitation.

These three things are spelling, pronunciation and meanings.
First, a dictionary will tell you the spelling of a word. If you are not sure about the spelling of a word,

   - and the word "proverty" comes before the word "power" - p,o,w,e,r. The words are always given in
  alphabetical order.
The second thing, a dictionary will tell you pronunciation. Most dictionary give phonetic, or sound,
alphabet. The phonetic spelling will tell you how a word is pronounced. There are a few different
phonetic alphabets. Many dictionaries use the International Phonetic Alphabet to show pronunciation.
The third thing, a dictionary will tell you the meanings of the words. You can look up a word and find
out what it means. Many words have more than one meaning, and a good dictionary will tell you all of the word's meanings. For example, in English the common word "get" has over 20 different meanings.

A. How to write a word well.

2. Of the three words "remove", " remote" and "remount", _____ in a dictionary.
A. "remount" comes first and "remove" comes last
B. "remove" first and "remote" last
C. "remote" first and "remove" last
D. "remove" first and "remount" last
3. Many words have _____.

B. few meanings
C. one thing
D. no meaning
4. A better dictionary can tell you _____.
A. more of the word's pronunciation

C. more of the word's spelling
D. more of grammer
5. Phonetic alphabets are used to show _____.
