When you look up into the sky at night, have you ever felt that your eyes are playing tricks on (捉弄) you? It seems that the stars are moving all the time.

Actually, there is nothing wrong with your eyes. This twinkling effect is called scintillation (交光). Scintillation happens because of air movements in the earth’s atmosphere (大气). Light is “bent (弯曲的)” when it travels through different parts of the earth’s atmosphere. As the air in the earth’s atmosphere is moving all the time, the light from the stars looks as if it is moving too.

The same thing also happens to things on the ground. On a very hot and shiny day, if you look at the road, the image in the distance is not clear and things move slightly. You can also see the same effect if you drop a rock into water. The rock appears a little unclear under the moving water.

This twinkling effect causes a lot of problems for astronomers (天文学家) since they cannot observe the stars clearly. A telescope (望远镜) was sent into space so that the air movements in the atmosphere could be avoided (避免). It took a long time to build the space telescope but finally in 1990, a huge space telescope called the Hubble Space Telescope was successfully sent into space. Since then, astronomers have many important observations that have helped people understand space better.

Making a TV show is a lot of fun. But it’s also a lot of work. So how do you make a TV show? One of the most important parts of a TV show is the set. Sets are where the stories happen. Sets can look like a room in a house, a restaurant, or even a jungle.
Would you ever want to act on TV? Being an actor on TV is fun. You can be famous and sign autographs. But it’s also a lot of work. If you don’t want to be an actor, there are other jobs you can do in a TV studio. You can be a director, or you can work with lighting or sound. Many people work together during filming to make sure the show looks good.
More people work on the TV show after it is filmed. They are editors. Editing a TV show means putting the different parts of the show together to make a whole show. When someone edits the show, they also add music or sound effects to make the show more interesting.

Word travelled quickly in the small fishing village of Port Washington,
Wisconsin. So when McCarty wanted to build a playground for kids with special
needs. 2,800 people ? a third of the town ? rolled up their sleeves(衣袖)and
helped her.
"A lot of learning comes through play," said McCarty, 52, a special

were volunteers. They all worked very hard.
Today, Possibility Playground is one of the most popular destinations in
Ozaukee County. All children can play shoulder to shoulder. There is special
equipment(装置) in different parts. Here, you see all the kids on the same
playground having fun.
"People used to ask. 'Why do you want to build a playground just for
children with disabilities?' " McCarty said. "They didn't get it. It's only when you
build a playground for children with disabilities that you build one for all
children."
