As many as 10 of the 17 kinds of penguins (企鹅) may be in danger of disappearing. The number of
penguins have decreased (减少) by 30% since 1987.
Penguins are black and white birds that live in the southern part of the world. They are common in South
America, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. Many live near cold waters. But some live near warm waters
in Galapagos Islands. Penguins cannot fly, but they are fine swimmers. Penguins eat fish and krill (磷虾).
The warming of the earth is the decrease in penguin populations. The heating of the air has caused ocean
waters to become warmer. Higher water temperatures have reduced the supply of fish and krill. Some years later
these birds are completely unable to reproduce (繁殖). Besides, many adult penguins die of hunger.
Widespread (广泛的) fishing, exploration for oil and oil leaks (漏) also make penguins be in danger.
Poisonous organisms (生物) in ocean water are another danger. Penguins also have their enemies, including
wild dogs, sharks, seals and sea lions.
News about penguins is not all bad, however. Several years ago, oil leaking from a ship hurt 40% of the
penguins in South Africa. The penguins became covered with oil. But thousands of people helped clean and treat
the birds well. Then they returned the penguins to the wild. Now these South African penguins are reproducing
in higher numbers than before the oil leaking.

3. Why are the penguins in South Africa reproducing in higher numbers than before the oil leaking?
[     ]
A. Because people removed the ship.
B. Because people sent a lot of penguins to the wild.
C. Because people helped the penguins.
D. Because people treated the penguins well.
4. What's the best title of the passage?

If you watch the sky for about an hour after the sun goes down, you may see some "moving stars".  But they're not really stars. They're man-made satellites. And the biggest of all is the
International Space Station (ISS). From May to July is the best season to watch the ISS flying over the earth.
And people can see it with their eyes.
The ISS is the biggest satellite (人造卫星) and scientists want to live on it. They think that the best way to
learn more about space is to live there.
When the space station is finished, it will be like a city in space. People will stay and study there with many of
the things they have at home. Laboratories, living rooms and power stations are being built. The ISS is the most
expensive space program. Billions of dollars are being spent on it every year.
Scientists hope that the ISS will be a stepping stone for future space exploration (探测). "The ISS will help us
understand the human body better, explore space and study the earth. It can help us make life on the earth
better," said Kathryn Clark, an ISS scientist.
Sixteen countries are part of the program: the US, Russia, Canada, Japan, Brazil and 11 European countries.
China isn't an ISS country, but it has helped with some of the experiments. In 2003, China sent some rice up to
the ISS to find out what space would do to it.

Moreno, Stanley, and 23 other students from Westfield State College were on vacation in Acapulco, Mexico. This was the last night in the hotel. It was 4 am, Moreno and Stanley came back from a party.

Just as Stanley went to sleep, he heard loud noise outside. From the balcony (阳台) of their fourth-floor room, Moreno and Stanley saw black smoke out of one window and heard people shouting.

  Dear Mr Heppell,

I am Sabrina Akhtar studying in a high school and I've noticed that forests are disappearing(消失).

You know, forests are disappearing around the world each year. This is because of many different reasons including farming, tourisms pollution(污染), etc. If we stop doing these things, there will be a good future for people of tomorrow.
