    　　It must have been about two o’clock in the morning when Peter returned home. He tried to wake up his wife by ringing the doorbell, but she didn’t hear it, so he got a ladder（梯子）from the garden, put it against the wall, and began climbing towards the bedroom window. He was almost there when a voice below said,“I don’t think the windows need cleaning at this time of the night.”
