A tourist was standing outside a very big church (教堂) in Germany when a wedding (婚礼) party got out of some cars and went into the church. Everybody was very well dressed, and there were a lot of photographers, so the tourist thought, “the people getting married must be famous.” He turned to a man who was standing beside him and said，“What is the name of the man who is getting married?”

The man answered, “Ich spreche kein English.”

The tourist thanked him and went into the church. As he was coming out of another door, a coffin (棺材)was carried out. There had been a funeral service in one of the side chapels (附属教堂)of the church.

The tourist turned to one of the people in the church and said, “Whose funeral was that?”

The man answered, “Ich spreche kein English.”

“Well,” said the tourist. “His marriage didn’t last long.”

　　In today's world, almost everyone knows that air pollution and water pollution are harmful to people's health. However, not all the people know that noise is also a kind of pollution, and that it is harmful to our health, too.

　　People who work and live under noisy conditions（状况） usually have poorer hearing. Many of the workers who print（印刷） newspapers and books, and who weave cloth（织布） become deaf（耳聋）. Quite a few people living near airports also become deaf. Recently（近来） it was discovered that many young people in America could hear no better than 65-year-old people, for these young people like to listen to "pop" music and most of "pop" music is a kind of noise. Besides （除此之外）, noise produced（产生） by jet planes（喷气式飞机） or machines will make people's life difficult and unpleasant（不愉快的）, or even make people ill, or even drive them mad（发疯）.
