F. Scott Fitzgerald was born in the USA on September 24, 1896. Next, he was a student of St. Paul Academy, the Newman School and attended Princeton University for a short time. In 1917 he joined the army and was sent to Alabama, where he met his wife Zelda Sayre. Then he had to earn some money so that he could become rich and marry her.

      His life with her was full of great happiness, and he wrote it in his diary — “My own happiness in the past often got such a joy that I could share it even with my dearest person, but I had to do so in quiet streets or in my diary.”

      This Side of Paradise, his first novel, was published in 1920. Encouraged by its success, Fitzgerald began to spend more time on his writing. Then he continued with the novel The Beautiful and Damned (1922), a collection of short stories Thales of the Jazz Age (1922), and a play The Vegetable (1923). But his greatest success was the novel The Great Gatsby (1925), which made him famous in the literary world. Yet it failed to make him rich enough. Then, in 1926, he published another collection of short stories All the Sad Young Men.

Students who say they never or hardly ever used dictionaries often speak English well, but usually write poorly because they make many mistakes.

The students who use dictionaries most do not learn quite well either. The ones who look up every new word do not read fast. For this reason, they do not have time to read much. Those who use small two-language dictionaries have the worst problems. Their dictionaries often give only one or two words as translations of English.
