　　Jiuzhaigou is an incredible(不可思议的)place in the northern part of Sichuan Province in China．It was only discovered in the 1970s and is now a protected area．Tibetan people have lived in the valley for many years and signs of Tibetan culture can be seen throughout the valley．However, many of these people have now been moved to houses so that the land can be looked after properly．

　　The valley is surrounded by mountains and is full of waterfalls and lakes．Many of the lakes are so colorful that they look man-made．The lakes are the bluest blue you will ever see and some are up to 50 meters deep but they are so clear that you can see the bottom．The valley has become a popular tourist attraction for both Chinese and foreign tourists．To save Jiuzhaigou from thousands of people that go there every year, there are buses inside the valley that take the visitors to the main attractions．There is also a rather expensive entrance ticket to try and keep the number of tourists down．

　　For the fit and healthy tourists, there are walking paths so that they can be really close to nature．The valley is over 60 kilometers long, so the walk may be tiring．Many tourists prefer to take the bus．

　　Jiuzhaigou is a great place to visit．I hope you can go there sometime．

　　One day Trudy saw an advertisement in a magazine．It offered a packet of 100 mixed stamps for ＄10．Trudy wanted to start a stamp collection, so she ordered the packet．One hundred mixed stamps seemed a good way to begin a collection．She sent a postal order to the stamp company with her order, and waited excitedly for the stamps to arrive．Trudy checked the mail every day for four weeks but the stamps didn't arrive．So Trudy decided to write to the company．“Dear Sir/Madam,”she wrote,“a month ago I sent you a postal order for ＄10 as payment for 100 mixed stamps．They haven't arrived．Please send them by return of mail．”

　　Another month passed．The stamps still didn't arrive and she didn't receive any reply to her letter．She asked her father for advice．Her father said,“You must write a stronger letter．Make the stamp company worry that you will report them to the authorities．”“Dear Sir/Madam,”she wrote in her second letter,“I am writing to complain about your poor service．Two months ago I sent you a postal order for ＄10 as payment for 100 mixed stamps．I didn't receive the stamps．A month ago I wrote to inform you of this．I still haven't received the stamps, and you haven't replied to my letter．If I do not receive the stamps within seven days, I shall report this matter to the authorities．”

　　Oil can be used in many ways and it's difficult to imagine what the modern world will be like without oil．But oil isn't easy to find and get out of the earth．Men must study the rocks．When they think the rocks in a certain place may have oil, a metal tower is built．A machine in the tower cuts a hole down into the ground．At the same time, a steel pipe is pushed down to stop the sides from falling in and to keep out water．At last if the men are right, usually the oil rushes up the sides with great force by the pressure of the gas in the top of the rock, and it rushes high into the air．If the oil catches a light, there will be a terrible fire．So a kind of cover is fixed on the top of the pipe, and the oil can run out through taps．

　　If we make a well near the middle of the oil field, we can also get gas．Such gas is sent through pipes to towns far away and used in houses and factories like coal gas．

　　Today oil is under pressure as never before．The price of oil keeps rising all the time．In many countries, the governments encourage people to save oil as much as possible．

　　Rivers are one of our most important natural resources．Many of the world's great cities are located on rivers, and almost every country has at least one river flowing through it that plays an important part in the lives of its people．

　　Since the beginning of history, people have used rivers for transportation．The longest one in the United States is the Mississippi．The lifeline of Egypt is Nile．To the people of India, the Ganges is great, but it is also important for transportation：ships can travel along it for a thousand miles．Other great rivers are the Congo in Africa and the Mekong in Southeast Asia．The greatest of all for navigation(航海)，however, is the Amazon in Brazil(巴西)．It is so wide and so deep that large ships can go about two thousand miles upon it．
