Swimming and English Learning         
       Can you swim? Do you like swimming? Yes? Well, how can you leam to swim? I think the best 
way is to go into the water and learn. I'm afraid you'll never learn to swim just by reading books about 
swimming or watching others swimming. It's the same with the English study. We must practice, practice
 and practice.         
       Listening and speaking are very important for beginners. The children in English-speaking count ries 
first listen to others. Then they try to imitate (模仿)  and speak. We can listen to English programs on the 
radio, and maybe you can just understand a few words. It doesn't matter. Just be relaxed, and try to 
catch every word.         
       Somebody may be a good listener. But he dare not speak. He's afraid of making mistakes. You 
know we even make mistakes when we speak Chinese. Don't be afraid. We must be brave. lf you really 
want to leam English well, you must try to speak with everyone so long as he knows English. Whether you know him or not is not important. When there is nobody to talk with, you can talk to yourself in English. 
It's interesting and also a good way to practice your spoken English. Remember, the more you speak, the 
fewer mistakes you'll make.          
       Reading and writing are more important for senior school students. First, we must choose the books we're interested in. A lot of reading will improve your language sense. This is the most important.          
       Keep writing English diaries. We can also write English articles. You may even post them to English
 magazines. Don't be afraid of failure. Failure is the mother of success.          
       Easier said than done. Well, let's do more practice from now on. I'm sure you'II learn English well in
 this way.

     Scientist has told us so much about the moon that it's quite easy to tell
what it would like to be there. It's certainly not a friendly place. As there is no air or water, there can be no life of any kind. Mile after mile there are only

     Can we live without salt? Salt is very important to us. We need salt in our food. Animals need it, too.  Most of the salt in our country comes from the

     As a teacher, I think it is right to tell my students to write about their pure feelings and real experiences. I always taught my students how to learn by experience. And I also found that it helped me a lot to get on well with the students.
     One day after explaining a text,I asked my students to write a passage about their families.I encouraged them to write about their  real  experiences  with  their closest family members. All the students wrote quite well  but  the  best one of them was written by a  little girl. She was Hao Fang. I was deeply moved by her
story. In  her  passage, she said her father  had died years  before  and  her mother  had to  work hard to
support the family. Many times she  had seen her mother work deep into night but never seen tears on her
face.  She also wrote that she needed to stay  strong  and  she would do the best to give her  mothe r an
easier life in the future. Like her mother, Hao  Fang also  worked hard  at  her  lessons  and she was really
good at any of them.  I didn't know anything about her unlucky family till then. She always appeared happy and 'never showed that she needed  anyone's help.
     In order to make her an example to the class, I read  this  passage to the class. When I finished reading
it, I found my throat choked  and  my students' eyes full of tears. After  class nearly  all  my  other students
crowded around Hao Fang and gave their money to help this girl. We knew her family needed money very much. Many students decided to offer her more help. To tell  the  truth, I was really proud  of my students.
But to my surprise, this student of mine didn't express her thanks to  her classmates and left school without even telling me the next day. I was puzzled about this.
     Was  it  right to  tell her sad story to the class? Why did sh e refuse to accept  the  donation? These
questions crowded my mind.
