Many countries celebrate World Book Day．Take UK as an example．On that day，millions of school children can buy books of special price，a much lower price than usual，in any bookstore．It has been done every year since 1998．World Book Day is also celebrated in China. Our Former Premier Wen Jiabao, a bookworm, who does lots of reading every day, has called on people to do more reading. He suggested that young people should spend more time reading．"Books cannot change the world, but people can change the world by changing themselves through reading,” he said．

Why do people like reading? One big advantage is that reading helps us become more knowledgeable and more intelligent. Also, reading helps us to follow the latest developments of science and technology. Besides, reading gives us information about other cultures and places of the world. When we read, we may find many things that are unfamiliar to us. We would have to use our brain to think about them or do more reading to find out the answers. The more we read, the more we know. What’s more, reading is also one of the most important ways to learn a foreign language like English．

China’s largest water diversion project(引水工程) may start supplying water to Shandong Province by 2007 and Beijing by 2010, an official confirmed Tuesday.

The worsening water shortage in the two areas, caused by decades of drought, may be alleviated with water from the mighty Yangtze River in the South which will be diverted into the parched North, he said. The water diversion project consists of three 1,300-kilometre canals that will carry water from the Yangtze along the eastern, middle and western parts of the country.

Zhang Jiyao,director of the state Concil’s office in charge of the South to North Project, told a national conference that ground will be broken in more places along two of the lines of the ambitious water diversion scheme,the largest of its kind in the world.

That would bring the total sections under construction to 13,since construction started in 2002 with an estimated investment of 124 billion yuan(about US $15 billion).

When finished, the two water diversion canals will be capable of transferring 13.4 billion cubic meters of water a year.

Here's a quick look at what you need to know about what it means if Apple switches from its current liquid crystal display (LCD) screens to a type of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screen called AMOLED.

The essential difference between an LCD screen and an AMOLED one is the presence of a backlight. Thanks to that difference, AMOLED screens can be very thin, which means you can make thinner products. They also provide more vivid colors, which is a reason that television makers have been pushing OLED in its various forms for their big screens. AMOLED screens, in particular, boast(夸口) even greater control over each individual pixel （像素）— which means better contrast for the viewer. These screens can also improve battery life. Because there's no backlight, AMOLED screens can be more energy-efficient when the user is viewing darker subjects, allowing the phone to shut off pixels and stop drawing power.

So why hasn't Apple switched to AMOLED yet? After all, Apple competitors such as Samsung and LG already have these screens on their smartphones.

AMOLED screens are not cheap to produce. It's also not that easy to make the complex AMOLED screens, which could explain why most Apple fans expect that only the highest-end phone will have the new screen.

And then there's the cost. The switch to AMOLED has also been cited as a reason that the price of the high-end iPhone may jump above the $1,000 mark. Beauty, even in a mass-produced world, does not come cheap.

Still, the expense may be worth it, especially as people shoot more photos and videos.
