16.Andy never wanted to go to bed on time.His parents had explained to him how important it was to go to bed early and get a good rest.But Andy paid no attention to them,and they didn't know what to do until one weekend when they were visiting Andy's grandparents.
Grandpa Peter heard all about it and said,"This sounds like a job for Tubby."So Andy's parents loaded the cat onto the car and returned home.
That night,at bedtime,the same problem happened.Andy didn't want to go to bed,and even though his parents waited a while to see if Tubby would solve the problem,nothing happened.
Hours later,Andy finally decided to go to bed.But what a surprise when he entered his bedroom!Tubby was in his bed,totally sprawling out,pot-belly in the air,and snoring like an express train.
Andy tried to move the cat,but there was no way of moving him an inch.That night he hardly slept,lying on one tiny corner of his bed.
The next day the same thing happened,even though Andy was much more tired from not having slept well.When the third day arrived,he had understood that if he wanted to sleep in his bed,he would have to get into it before Tubby did.That night,when his parents only started to mention the topic of bedtime,Andy rushed upstairs and dived into bed.His parents could not believe it.They knew nothing about Tubby in the bed,nor did they understand why Andy went to bed on time without complaint.They were so happy about this that they stayed up quite late,celebrating.

分析 这篇短文主要讲述了一只猫改变了安迪的睡觉习惯的故事.

解答 5-8 CBAD
5  C   推理判断题.这句话的本意是"这听起来像是Tubby的一个工作".根据下文"to see if Tubby would solve the problem,"以及短文最后一段描述,可知奶奶说的是,Tubby能帮助解决安迪的睡觉问题.故选C.
 6  B  词义猜测题.根据前文"Tubby was in his bed,totally sprawling out,pot-belly in the air"及下文"like an express train"像一辆特快列车.可知此处指的是Tubby的鼾声就像是一列特快列车.故此处指的是发出噪音的意思,选B.
7  A   细节理解题.根据短文最后一段"When the third day arrived,he had understood that if he wanted to sleep in his bed,he would have to get into it before Tubby did."及前文二三四段描述,可知如果安迪不抢在Tubby之前占据这张床的话,他又将度过一个不眠之夜,故选A.
8   D   细节理解题.根据短文最后一段"They were so happy about this that they stayed up quite late,celebrating."

7.Do you ever do homework while listening to music,or watch TV while texting friend?It may seem like an obvious question since most of us multitask(做多个任务) all the time.
But according to a recent study published in the journal PLOS ONE,using  a number of media devices(媒体设备) at the same tme could be changing our brains.
The report was carried out by Sussex University in the UK.Researchers first asked 75adults about how often they spent time multitasking between different kinds of media.Then they checked thei brains with an MRI machine.Those who reported heavier media multitasking had less gray matter in their brains.Gray matter is the part of the brain that helps to deal with information and control emotions(情感).
So is multitasking really rotting our brains and making us stupid? We can't be sure, according to researchers.
They say that the results only show a link.They are unsure whether multitasking reduces gray matter or if people with less gray matter are simply more likely to multitask.
"Media multitasking is becoming more popular in our lives today and there is increasing concern about its influence(影响) on our well-being,"said British scientist Kep Kee Loh,who directed the study.
Loh says that more study is needed to support the idea that our behaviors are changing our brains.But if it's true,it could support earlier studies about media multitasking.
In 2012,a study by Michigan State University in the US found that people using several media devices at the same time were more likely to be anxious or depressed.
It seems that more research into the issue is needed.But no matter what,you should consider liiting(限制) yourself to one screen at a time,the Huffington Post reported.
For one thing,Multitasking doesn't actually work if you are trying to be more efficient(有效率的).You're going from one action to another instead of truly doing two things at a time.It wastes your energy and slows you down.And  once you've slowed down,it can be hard to pick back up where you left off.
If you want to finish a list of jobs,"set goals, establish a routine(常规),and take regular breaks",suggested The Hufington Post.
21.What did the recent study by Sussex University find?D
A.Most people have the ability to multitask.
B.Multitasking can help to improve efficiency.
C.There are several reasons behind media multitasking.
D.There is a link between more edia multitasking and less grey matter.
22.The underlined word"rotting"is closest in meaning toA.
A.harming
B.controlling
C.improving
D.recovering
23.Which of the following is TRUE according to the article?B
A.Many studies have proven that people's behaviors change their brains.
B.Scientists are concerned about the bad influence of media multitasking.
C.Depressed people use more media devices than other people to relieve stress.
D.People are advised to stop using media devices in the future.

4.You may think that sailing is a difficult sport,but it is really not hard to learn it.You do not need to be strong.But you need to be quick.And you need to understand a few basic rules about the wind.
First,you must ask yourself,"Where is the wind coming from?Is it coming from ahead or behind or from the side?"You must think about this all the time on the boat.The wind direction tells you what to do with the sail.
Let's start with the wind blowing from behind.This means the wind and the boat are going in the same direction.Then you must always keep the sail outside the boat.It should be at a 90° angle (角度) to the boat.Then it will catch the wind best.
If the wind is blowing from the side,it is blowing across the boat.In this case,you must keep the sail half way outside the boat.It should be at a 45° angle to the boat.It needs to be out far enough to catch the wind,but it shouldn't flap (摆动).It shouldn't look like a flag on a flagpole.If it is flapping,it is probably out too far,and the boat will slow down.
Sailing into the wind is not possible.If you try,the sail will flap and the boat will stop.You may want to go in that direction.It is possible,but you can't go in a straight line.You must go first in one direction and then in another.This is called tacking.When you are tacking,you must always keep the sail inside the boat.
60.What should you consider first while sailing?C
A.Sailors'strength.
B.Wave levels.
C.Wind directions.
D.Size of sails.
61.What does the word"It"underlined in Paragraph 4refer to?C
A.The boat.
B.The wind.
C.The sail.
D.The angle.
62.What do you have to do when sailing against the wind?D
A.Move in a straight line.
 B.Allow the sail to flap.
C.Lower the sail.
D.Tack the boat.
63.Where can you probably find the text?A
A.In a popular magazine.
B.In a tourist guidebook.
C.In a physics textbook.
D.In an official report.

11.When kids hit puberty(青春期),their bodies and minds go through tons of changes,including the larynx,the voice box in the throat.The larynx is what gives you your voice.You can find your larynx by touching the front of your throat and humming.When you feel vibrations(震动) under your fingers,you've found it!
When the larynx grows larger during puberty,it sticks out at the front of the throat.This is what's called an Adam's apple.Everyone's larynx grows during puberty,but a girl's larynx doesn't grow as much as a boy's does.That's why boys have Adam's apples.Most girls don't have Adam's apples,but some do.
But why is it called an Adam's apple?If you think it's called that after the story of the Garden of Eden where Adam ate a piece of the forbidden fruit that got stuck in his throat,you're right.An Adam's apple sometimes looks like a small,rounded apple just under the skin in the front of the throat.
This larger larynx also gives boys deeper voices.Actually,girls'voices get a little bit deeper as their larynxes get larger,too.But because boys'larynxes grow so much more,it makes their voices deeper than girls'voices.
The larynx doesn't grow to its new size overnight, though. If you've ever heard a teenage boy's voice sound squeaky(发短促尖叫声的),you've heard a larynx trying to get adjusted to its new size!
28.Who has Adam's apples after puberty?D
A.All kids.
B.Most girls.
C.Most boys.
D.Boys.
29.What makes a person's voice deeper?A
A.The size of the larynx.
B.The length of puberty.
C.The amount of body changes.
D.The shape of one's throat.
30.Which of the following is true about the larynx?B
A.The larynx comes after Adam's apples.
B.The larynx grows gradually in one's teens.
C.The larynx grows the moment a person is born.
D.The larynx is a piece of apple stuck in the throat.
31.What's mainly talked about in the text?B
A.Where an Adam's apple exists.
B.What an Adam's apple is.
C.When teenagers have their puberty.
D.How squeaky a teenage boy's voice sounds.

1.Decisions,decisions!Our lives are full of them,from the small ones to the life-changing.The right to choose is central to everyone.Yet sometimes we make bad decisions that leave us unhappy or full of regret.Can science help?
Most of us know little about the mental processes that lie behind our decisions.Luckily,what psychologists are finding may help us all make better choices.Here are some of their amazing discoveries to help you make up your mind.
Consider your emotions.You might think that emotions are the enemy of decision making,but in fact they're a part of it.Whenever you make up your mind,your brain's emotional center is active.University of Southern California scientist,Antonio Damasio,has studied people with damage to only the emotional parts of their brains,and found that they were unable to make basic choices about what to wear or eat.Damasio thinks this may be because our brains store emotional memories of past choices,which we use to help the present decision making.
However,making choices under the influence of an emotion can greatly affect the result.Take anger,for example.A study by Nitika Garg of the University of Mississippi and other scientists found the angry shoppers were more likely to choose the first thing they were offered rather than consider other choices.It seems anger can lead us to make quick decisions without much thinking.
All emotions affect our thinking and motivation(动机),so it may be best to avoid making important decisions under their influence.Yet strangely there's one emotion that seems to help us make good choices.The American researchers found that sad people took time to consider the various choices on offer,and ended up making the best choices.In fact many studies show that people who feel unhappy have the most reasonable view of the world.

65.According to the text,what may help us make better decisions?B
A.To think about happy times.
B.To learn about the process of decision-making.
C.To make many decisions at a time.
D.To stop feeling regretful about the past
66.Damasio's study suggests thatD.
A.emotions are the enemy of decision making
B.people with physical damage find it hard to make up their minds
C.our brain has nothing to do with decision making
D.our emotional memories of past choices can affect present decisions
67.Why are angry shoppers more likely to choose the first thing they are offered?B
A.They often forget their past choices.
B.They make decisions without much thinking.
C.They tend to save time when shopping.
D.They are too angry to bargain.
68.What do we learn from the text?D
A.Sad people always make worst choices.
B.No emotion seems to help us make good choices.
C.Only sad feelings affect our thinking and motivation.
D.Emotions are a part of decision making.
