    　　President Bush met with many of Asia's top leaders this past week．During his trip, the President attended the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC)conference in Hanoi, Vietnam．He asked the organization's 21 members to take a stand against North Korea's nuclear program and to fight terrorism．

    　　APEC members did not sign a formal written agreement asking North Korea to stop its nuclear program．However, Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet read aloud a statement of support at the end of the conference．After its October 9 nuclear test, North Korea agreed to resume negotiations with the United States, Russia, China, Japan, and South Korea about ending its nuclear program．But no dates for the meetings have been set．

    　　Bush received a warm welcome when he arrived in Vietnam．During his three-day trip, the President took a tour of the country's economic capital, Ho Chi Minh City．Vietnamese officials considered the President's visit important．The United States and Vietnam have had a rocky relationship since the end of the Vietnam War in 1975．Both nations agreed to fight diseases like AIDS and bird flu．They also promised to increase trade and to create a good military relationship．

    　　After Vietnam, Bush flew to Indonesia and spent six hours there．While there, he met with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono．The President made his last stop in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Tuesday where he had breakfast with U．S．military troops and met with commanders．He returned to the White House on Wednesday．

        Cambodia was in many ways similar to Laos, although it has twice the population. At another inn, we
    talked with a teacher who told us that half of the people in her country couldn't read or write. Her village
    couldn't even afford to build a school, so she had to teach outside under a large tent. When we said goodbye,
    we all felt very lucky to have studied in college. Back on the road, we passed between many hills and forests.
    Then we came to the plains and entered Phnom Penh (金边), the capital of Cambodia. In many ways it looked

        The next morning our group slept late. We were very tired from the long bike ride the day before. Cycling

    they said, they were the strong ones! We had lunch at a nice outdoor cafe. then rode out of the city.
        Two days later we crossed the border into Vietnam. We began to see many more people, but I wasn't
    surprised. I read in an atlas before our trip that Vietnam has almost seven times the population of Cambodia.
    We met a farmer who gave us directions and told us that he grows a new rice crop four times every year so
    he can feed more people. He also told us that the northern part of his country has many mountains and it is
    much cooler than here in the south, where it is flat. Although the flat delta made it easier for us to cycle, we
    got warm very quickly. So we drank lots of water and ate lots of bananas. Soon the delta separated into nine
    smaller rivers. Two days later, after we had passed thousands of rice fields, we came to the sea. We were
    tired but also in high spirits: our dream to cycle along the Mekong River had finally come true.

           When Christina Brouder was five years old, a drunk driver ran over her as she and her father were crossing the street in front of their ho me．Hurt badly, the young girl was forced to spend a long time in a full-body cast（ 石膏） to recover from her injuries．Mostly, she traveled between the hospital and her home．Once out of the cast, Brouder sat in a wheelchair for almost a year.
