.A. A. noticed 发现;B. understood 理解;C. knew知道; D. recognized认出。

A. since自从;B. . as if 似乎,好像; C. though虽然; D. even if即使。

A. flat 扁平的;B. open 敞开的; C. cut 剪切的; D. fixed固定的。 另外,下文的…he was ___ to read 也暗示我们,报纸是打开的。

A. hoping 希望;B. thinking思考;C. pretending假装; D. continuing继续。

A. see 看到; B. find发现;C. guess猜想;D. learn学习。

A. menu菜单;B. bill 账单;C. paper 报纸,论文;D. food食物。根据文章开头说的…waiting for the food I had ordered to arrive 可知,此处应填 food。

A. direct 直接的;B. strange 奇怪的;C. familiar 熟悉的;D. funny滑稽的。文章开头说sitting at my favorite table,既然有favorite table,说明经常来这里。另外,下文又说all the waiters in the restaurant knew me,这说明我与服务员都很熟。

A. chatted with 与某人聊天;B. looked at 看;C. laughed at 嘲笑;D. talked about谈论。

A. the waiter 服务员;B. time 时间;C. I 我;D. the dinner晚饭。

此处的it为形式主语,其后的that all the waiters…

A. restaurant 饭店;B. washroom 洗手间;C. kitchen 厨房;D. office办公室。 He came into the kitchen and showed me a photo of the wanted man 可知此处应填 kitchen。

A. left 离开;B. acted行动;C. sat down 坐下;D. calmed down冷静下来。

A. wanted 想要;B. tried 尝试;C. ordered 命令;D. wished希望。

A. met 见到;B. caught 逮住;C. followed跟随;D. discovered发现。

A. was to beat 打; B. was dealing with 对付;C. was to meet 接见,迎接;D. was looking for寻找。

A.surprise 惊讶;B. care 在意; C. worry 担心;D. regret遗憾。

A. must必须,;B. can 能够;C. need 需要;D. may可以。从侦探认错人和下文说的 he looked very much like you,可知餐馆里的人也认为作者和罪犯非常相似,选A。

A. discovery发现;B. mistake 错误;C. decision 决定;D. fortune幸运,财富。

A. a pity遗憾;B. natural 自然的;C. a chance机会;D. lucky幸运的。

A. t hus 因此,从而;B. however 但是,然而;C. otherwise 否则,要不然;D. therefore 因此,所以。前句说it’s really lucky I came to a restaurant where I’m known,后句又说 I might have been in trouble,其间显然只有用otherwise 来衔接才最通顺。

Over the last six years I have learned what patience is. Growing up I did not have this virtue(优点)and it is a very important virtue to have. Now I can see that if you are patient you will almost always get what you want if you are supposed to have it. I gained patience when I lost my freedom. The first couple of years was the hardest.I was always stressed out about everything.Time was dragging by because I was always paying attention to it.While I was locked up,Tom who I talked to helped put this virtue in me.He told me that it was possible that he would never make it home but that being patient and believing that one day he would was what had made him feel better. After a while I realized why he said a lot of things to me.Once I stopped paying attention to the days and just kept in mind that I would get freedom,it seemed that my time passed quickly.

Now I am home and can see that patience paid off for me. I now use this virtue in my daily activities.
