A. rarely B. roughly

C. typically D. actually

【答案】B

【解析】

试题分析:考查副词用法。A.

You say you’re old enough to stay out late on weekends while they say you have to be home early.1You say you’ve met some nice kids and you’d like to go out with them, but they say they’d like to see your friends first.

When you’re a teenager, it seems that every time you say “I want to”, they will certainly answer “No, you can’t.” Also, no part of your life is safe from the “prying eyes” of your parents. 15-year-old Debbie says, “My dad always wants to know where I am, what time I’m going to be home. Most parents do that. Do they have to know everything?2

3When something goes wrong, most parents just don’t believe in their children. Without asking why, they think their kids are wrong. And not many parents would allow their kids to choose for themselves.

4But remember that not too long ago you were really a child. Your parents still remember the childish mistakes you used to make. They want to protect you though you do not want them to do so. And when something seems to threaten your well-being, they worry.

So, if you want to get more freedom, please try to understand your parents and do not just lie.5If you want them to allow you to stay out late, don’t just say, “All the other kids can stay out late.” Tell them as much as you can about what you want to do and where you’ll be and why it’s important for you to stay out later ..., they might just say yes.

AYes, it is true that your parents sometimes treat you like a small child.

BNo one likes being troubled.

CTry a more friendly way.

DThey should give us more freedom.

E. Young people further complain that their parents do not respect them.

F. You say you want to see that new film while they say you can’t see it.

【题目】The day I was given the news was a cold Saturday. My mom sat me on the floor and opened her mouth to give me the most words I'd ever heard: “Grandma Billie has been diagnosed with cancer.” Tears filled my eyes immediately. Mom continued, “Grandma is old and her body is too . There’s nothing they can do to treat her.” I knew this wasn't my mom’s fault but I was so . I was almost yelling at my mom, “So, they’re just going to let her ?”

We had to just wait for her to die. I couldn't even the thought. We went to the hospital right away. The doctor said, “Billie has a tumor in her . She won't be able to because it hurts her too much. One option is a feeding tube, but there are times when it will be uncomfortable.” At the end, the doctor sighed, “With a feeding tube, she would probably have three at most.”

My whole family on my mom’s side was really and they were all looking to God to make this easy. I couldn't handle it. If God was so wonderful and so then why did he allow all these awful things to happen to good people? Why was he letting my grandma die?

I came and visited every day after practice. Grandma would tell me the stories over and over again, but every time I was just as surprised and excited to hear them. She was getting really fast and every tme I came to see her it broke my heart more.

3 weeks later, after the softball practice, I was getting ready to see grandma when mom appeared in the locker room. She opened her mouth but at first no words came out. She again, “You can’t go to see grandma today because she just died.” Silence. I couldn’t anyone else in the room. Mom sat next to me and we both held each other and cried.

【题目】When there are some strangers in front of us, which of them will we trust?

According to a new study in the online PLOS One, people make their decisions to trust others largely based on their faces.Your appearance can do a lot for you, especially if you are in the financial industry. The more trustworthy you look, the more likely people will buy what you’re selling.

Researchers from Britain’s University of Warwick Business School, University College London, and Dartmouth College, US, did a number of experiments.

The research team used computer software to make 40 faces, from the least to the most trustworthy-looking.

The study said that the difference between a trustworthy face and one that isn’t as trustworthy comes from features that look slightly angry or slightly happy, even when the face is at rest. However, a slightly happy face is more likely to be trusted.

Researchers gave participants some money and asked them which face they trusted to invest the money for them. Then researchers gave some good and bad information about the people with these faces, and asked the participants again whom they trusted.

The results showed that even if they got different information, the participants didn’t change their choices. They were still more likely to invest their money with the more trustworthy-looking faces.

Chris Olivola, one of the study’s authors, said in the University of Warwick’s press release: “It seems we are still willing to go with our own instincts about whether we think someone looks like we can trust them. The temptation to judge strangers by their faces is hard to resist.”
