I had the meanest mother in the world. other kids ate candy, I had to have cereal(谷物食品),eggs or toast. While others had cakes and French fries,I had to eat a sandwich. But at least,I wasn’t in my suffering. My sisters and two brothers had the same mean mother as I did.

My mother knowing where we were at all times and who our friends were . She insisted if we said we’d be gone an hour, then we be gone one hour or —not one hour and one minute. She made us wear the clothes made by herself, just to money. Now you can see how she was.

The is yet to come. We had to be in bed by 9:00 each night and at 7:45 the next morning. We had to wash dishes. beds, and learn to cook.I believe she lay at night thinking up mean things to do to us.

Through the years, things didn’t a bit.We could not lie in bed, pretending to be“ ”like our friends did to miss school. Our friends’report cards had beautiful colors on them, black for passing, red for .My mother, ,would only be content with black marks.

As the years by,we graduated from high school.Out of the four children,a couple of us !higher education than university level. With our mother us pushing and demanding, of us was allowed to drop out of school. She forced us to grow up into educated and honest adults.

Now I'm trying to my three children.I'm filled with when my children call me mean.Because, you see,I thank God,he gave me the meanest mother in the whole world.

1.】A连词辨析A.While 当…… 时候,由于,随着;C.Unless除非; D.If如果。

2.】B形容词辨析A.weak 虚弱的;B.alone 独自的;C.happy 高兴的;D.1ucky幸运的。 My sisters and two brothers had the same mean mother as I did可知作者的弟弟妹妹和他一样,故他不是唯一的,选B。

3.】C动词短语辨析A.replied to 回答; B.went on 继续;C.insisted on坚持;D.took up从事,举起。 She insisted if we said we’d be gone an hour,可知此处也是作者的母亲坚持要知道的事情,故选C。

A.not 不;B.more 更多;C.so所以;D.1ess更少。

5.】C动词辨析A.make 制作,使;B.collect 收集; C.save 节省;D.get得到。

6.】B形容词辨析A.funny 滑稽的; B.mean吝啬的;C.kind 友善的;D.interesting有趣的。

7.】A形容词辨析A.worst 最糟的;B.best 最好的;C.1east至少;D.1ast最后。

A.off 离开;B.away远离;C.up 向上;D.out外面。

9.】A动词辨析A.make 制作,使;B.arrange 安排;C.place 放置;D.fold折叠。固定短语:make beds“铺床叠被”,选A。

10.】D形容词辨析A.active积极的;B.asleep 睡着的;C.alive 活着的; D.awake醒着的。

11.】B动词辨析A.develop 发展; B.improve 提高;C.happen发生; D.assess评估。

12.】A形容词辨析A.sick 病的;B.sad难过的;C.honest诚实的;D.ambitious雄心勃勃的。

13.】D名词辨析A.success 成功; B.progress 进步; C.courage 勇气; D.failure失败。

A.however然而; B.otherwise 否则;C.besides 此外; D.moreover此外。

15.】C动词辨析A.came来;B.pulled 拉;C.went 去;D.filled装满。

16.】C动词辨析A.attended 参加;B.wanted 想要;C.attained 获得; D.approached接近。

17.】D连词辨析A.before 在之前;B.in 在里面;C.about关于;D.behind在后面。

18.】A代词辨析A.none 没有(人或物);B.all所有的;C.both 两个都; D.neither两个都不。

19.】A动词辨析A.raise 举起,抚养; B.meet见面;C.change 改变;D.bring带来。

20.】B名词辨析A.apology 道歉; B.pride 骄傲;C.shame 羞愧;D.anger生气。

Once upon a time, there was a lovely vegetable field, on which grew a very thick tree. Both the vegetables and the tree gave the place a wonderful appearance, which was the joy of the garden’s owner. What no one knew was that the vegetables in the field and the tree couldn’t stand each other. The vegetables hated the tree’s shadow, because it left them only just enough light to survive. The tree, on the other hand, hated the vegetables because they drank nearly all the water before it could get to him, leaving him with just enough to survive.

The situation became so extreme that the vegetables got totally fed up and decided to use up all the water in the ground so that the tree would dry up. The tree answered back by refusing to give the vegetables shadow from the hot midday sun, so they both began to dry up. Before long, the vegetables were really thin and the tree’s branches were drying up.

Neither of them thought that the gardener, on seeing his vegetable field becoming worse, would stop watering it. When he did that, both the tree and the vegetables really learned what thirst was. There seemed to be no solution, but one of the vegetables, a small courgette(小胡瓜), understood what was going on, and decided to deal with it. Despite the little water and the unbearable heat, the little courgette did all he could to grow, grow...He managed to grow so big that the gardener started watering the field again. The gardener wanted to enter that beautiful big courgette in some gardening contest.

And so the vegetables and the tree realized that it was better to help each other than to fight. They should really learn how to live in harmony with those around them, doing the best they could. So they decided to work together, using both the shadow and the water in the best combination to grow good vegetables. Seeing how well they were doing, the gardener now gave the best of care to his vegetable field, watering it better than any other field for miles around.
