1.Christmas Eve was tomorrow.I hoped one of the packages that held a camera had already been placed under the Christmas tree.It was the only thing I wanted.I had been dropping hintsto my parents.I love taking photos.My bedroom walls are covered with photos I had taken with my mom's old camera.I'm always trying to capture(捕捉) those perfect moments in which you can hear the laughter or touch the beautiful scene,but my camera has always seemed to fall short.
I knew Mom had put a few presents under the tree this morning,so I went on a hunt in my mom's room.I opened the door and found my Christmas present was lying unwrapped on the floor-a big pink cat.I felt so disappointed.
Mom seemed to notice that,and she tried to cheer me up."Stacy,I got your present today.I am so excited to surprise you!""I can't wait,"I said.The next day I couldn't wait any longer.I needed to tell her.
"Mom,may I talk to you for a second?"
"Sure,dear.What do you need to talk about?"she asked.
And so it came-how upset I was that I was getting a cat.
"Stacy, that cat is for your sister Julia!"she said with a smile.
"Then what am I getting?"I asked.
She just smiled."You'll have to wait and see."
Next morning,I happily got into the living room and sat next to the tree.I pulled out the box with my name on it and opened the wrapping paper to find…
My camera!"Thank you!"I said to both Dad and Mom.
Dad picked up the camera and took a picture of Julia,Mom and me.It has become one of my favorite pictures.Just on that Christmas morning,I took lots of photos with my camera-my little sister making a face,my parents giving me a soft smile-and all of these photos have come to mean one thing to me:LOVE.

6.The New York Times states that cheerleading is the fastest growing girls'sport, yet more than half of Americans do not believe it is a sport. In addition, they fail to distinguish between sideline cheerleaders and professional ones.Sideline cheerleaders'main goal is to entertain the crowd and lead them with team cheers, which should not be considered a sport. On the other hand, professional cheerleaders aim to compete.
A sport, according to the Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors,is a"physical activity against a competitor, governed by rules under which a winner is declared, and the primary purpose of the competition is a comparison of the relative skills of the participants."Because cheerleading follows these guidelines,it is a sport.
Competitive cheerleading includes lots of physical activity.Like gymnasts, cheerleaders must learn to tumble (翻滚).They perform standing back flips, round flip flops, and full layout twists.Cheerleaders also perform lifts and tosses. This is where the"fliers"are thrown in the air, held by"bases"in different positions that require strength and cooperation with other teammates.
Just as basketball and football have guidelines for competitive play,so does competitive cheerleading. The whole routine has to be completed in less than three minutes and 15 seconds and the cheerleaders are required to stay within a certain area.
Competitive cheerleaders'goal is to be the best.Just like gymnasts, they are awarded points for difficulty, technique, creativity and sharpness. The more difficult a mount or a stunt, the sharper and more in-sync the motions, the better the score.Cheerleading is a team sport so without cooperation and synchronization, first place is out of reach.
So why do many Americans not think cheerleading is a sport? It cannot be because cheerleaders do not use bal ls or manipulate objects (if you do not count megaphones, pompoms and signs as objects).Wrestling,swimming,diving,track,cross-country,gymnastics,ice-skating and boxing are recognized sports that do not use balls. Some people argue that cheerleaders are just"flirts in skirts"with their only job to entertain the crowd, but cheerleaders today compete against other squads and work just as hard as other athletes.
Competitive cheerleading is a sport. It is a physical activity that is governed by rules under which a winner can be declared and its primary purpose is to compare the skills of participants.Hopefully, cheerleading will become as well-known a sport as football and basketball, and even appear in the Olympic s since cheerleaders are just as athletic and physically fit as those involved in the more accepted sports.
61.What is NOT the standard for sport according to the Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors?C
A.Physical movement is required.
B.The number of participants is limited.
