5.那个老人过去依靠他的儿子来得到一些钱.
The old manrelied/depended/countedonhis son for some money in the past.

分析 那个老人过去依靠他的儿子来得到一些钱

解答 答案是relied on/depended on/counted on.本题考查短语动词;对比汉语和英语发现,空格中需要的是"依赖";rely/depend/count on sb.for sth.表示"依靠某人获得…";题干中in the past 表示"过去",所以谓语动词需要过去时,故答案是relied on/depended on/counted on.

点评 汉译英要在理解汉语句子的基础上选择恰当的词、短语或句型;同时注意句子结构和所选词的形式变化.

10.A hospital has been forced to ban Pokemon Go players from the site after a monster hub(妖怪枢纽站) was found in the A&E department.Royal Stoke Univrsity Hospital discovered that its casualty unit(急诊室) is on the sme spot as a Pokemon Go‘gym'--where players can train their newly caught Nintendo creatures.
The University Hospitals of North Midlands Trust agreed last week that patients can play Pokemon Go on wards because walking around is healthy.But the Trust has been forced to post a warning on its website about public access to A&E.It said if Pokemon Go becomes a major annoyance it would ask Nintendo--which decides on the locations of the virtual gyms according using GPS--to have it removed from the premises(道馆).
Kevin Parker,associate chief nurse,said,"Members of the public who do not need to be at Royal Stoke should not attempt to enter A&E or any other part of the hospital building to play the game.The A&E department is incredibly busy this summer.We wan the public to understand that anybody who visits the hospital solely to play the game will provide an unwanted distraction to the important work of the hospital.I'm also aware of various reports in the media of unsafe areas that the game has been played in."
"Royal Stoke University Hospital is a safe area where gamers can enjoy Pokemon Go."Michelle Harris,the Trust's manager,said the game could still be played by those already in hospital."We recognize that the Pokemon Go game encourages walking and exercise,which is something that the Trust is equally keen to promte,"she said.
There are a number of"walking routes"established throughout the Trust that can be used to combine walking and playing the game."Walking just 30minutes,five times a week,can help reduce the risk of preventable illnesses such as obesity,diabetes,and hert disease."
There have been several warnings about the game since its UK release.Last week a group of teenagers in Wiltshire were left stranded almost 100ft underground after they got carried away searching for Pokemon Go characters.The four boys,aged 16 and 17,ended up getting lost and had to wait to get a phone signal before they could call for help.Eventually,they contacted Dorset and Wiltshre Fire and Rescue team,who took them to safety.Damien Bence,of the fire and rescue team,said:"Pokemon Go is obviously leading people into dangerous situations."

10.The‘Phone  Stack(堆)'Game
Whenever Michael Carl, the fashion market director at Vanity Fair, goes out to dinner with friends,he plays something, called the"phone stack"game:Everyone places their phones in the middle of the table; whoever looks at their device before the check arrives picks up the bill.As smartphones continue to burrow(钻入) their way into our lives, and wearable devices like Google Glass threaten to eat into our person space even further, overburdened users are carving out their own device-free zones with special tricks and life hacks.
"Disconnecting is a luxury that we all need,"Lesley M.M.Blume,a New York writer keeps her phone away from the dinner table at home."The expectation that we must always be available to employers, colleague, family:It creates a real obstacle in trying to set aside private time. But that private time is more important than ever."Much of the digital detoxing (戒毒)is centered on the home, where urgent e-mails from co-workers,texts from friends,Instagram photos from acquaintances and updates on Facebook get together to disturb domestic quietness.
A popular method is to appoint a kind of cellphone lockbox, like the milk tin that Brandon Holley, the former editor of lucky magazine, uses."If my phones is buzzing or lighting up,it's still a distraction,so it goes in the box.",said Ms.Holley, who lives in a row house in Red Hook,Brooklyn, with her son,Smith, and husband,John."It's not something I want my kid to see."Sleep is a big factor, which is why some people draw the cellphone-free line at the bedroom."I don't want to sleep next to something that is a charged ball of information with photos an e-mails,"said Peter Som,the fashion designer, who keeps his phone plugged in the living room overnight.""It definitely is a head clearer and describes daytime and sleep time clearly."
Households with young children are especially mindful about being overconnected, with parents sensitive to how children may imitate bad habits. But it's not just inside the home where users are separating themselves from the habit.Cellphone overusers are making efforts to disconnect in social settings, whether at the request of the host or in the form of friendly competition. The phone-stack game is a lighthearted way for friends to police against rude behavior when eating out.The game gained popularity after Brian Perez,a dancer in Los Angeles, posted the idea online.

17.If you live in a big city,there are many things to drive you crazy on your daily route,and it's not just overcrowded subway trains.
Vicky Zhao is a mainlander working in Hong Kong.For her,one thing she can't put up with is people standing on the wrong side of the escalator(自动扶梯) in subway stations."Escalators help us move faster and save time.It isn't a place to rest,"the 24-year-old says."I often see tourists block the way with their suitcases or chatting on the escalators during rush hours.It annoys me to no end."
Admitting she is not the patient type,Zhao says things are much better in Hong Kong than in cities on the mainland where"stand right, walk left"signs are often ignored.
The logic behind the"stand right,walk left"escalator etiquette(礼仪) seems obvious.Even though you may want to catch your breath while you're transported up or down,you should still consider others and leave enough space for people in a hurry,so that they can run and catch the train.
Many cities'escalators,including London's and Beijing's,use the"stand right,walk left"system to speed up the flow of people.(Australia is an exception and you should stand on the left side instead.) But some cities discourage people from moving on escalators out of safety reasons.In Hong Kong's subway stations there are regular announcements asking people to"stand still"on escalators.Even so,most people in this fast-paced city observe the"stand right,walk left"etiquette.
But the people who stand on escalators defend themselves by telling the walkers not to be so impatient.The BBC quotes one stander as saying:"If the person is in such a rush,why not just take the stairs?Even when the escalator is packed and there's nowhere to move,I see these same people complaining about not being able to pass."
Whatever the escalator etiquette is in the place you live or visit,do what most people are doing and always be mindful of others:leave enough space between each other, don't stay at the end of the escalator, and if someone is blocking your way,a simple"excuse me"is enough.

19.When on the escalator,a majority of local people in Hong KongD.
A.stand still as the railway stations require.
B.ignore the"stand right,walk left"signs
C.use the stairs instead of escalators.
D.follow the"stand right,walk left"etiquette.
20.What can be inferred from the 6th paragraph?A
A.Not everyone follows the"stand right,walk left"etiquette.
B.The BBC is against the"stand right,walk left"etiquette.
C.People should be patient and take the stairs if possible.
D.People shouldn't complain about the crowded escalators.
21.Which of the following statements is the writer's opinion?B
A.People should stand right no matter where they are.
B.People should do as the Romans do and consider others.
C.People should do as they like on the escalators.
D.People should be seriously criticized when they block the way.

I'm glad to hear that you will come back to our homeland for development.I think it's a great idea to build our hometown.

I hope you will make great contributions to our hometown after you come back.
Yours sincerely,
