I still remember my first job in the city center. The        was large, dark and old        the physics lecture room was on the second floor.        , it wasn’t a lecture room at all, it was an ordinary room, but it had “LECTURE ROOM’ on the       . The students were sixteen or seventeen years old,        several years younger than me.       , some of them looked and acted       older than me sometimes.
The room was directly       the street, and had the window looking out over the street and many houses. One day, I was       some words on the blackboard when I heard a sudden change in the noise behind me. There was a man standing in the room with       an apple in his hand. He looked      .
“Who threw this?” he asked, looking round the class.
“I beg your pardon? What is the matter?” I said. “     threw this apple out of the window,” he said. “It       on my car.”
“Who threw an apple out of the window?” I       to the class. There was no answer.
“I       the fellow who threw this.” said the man. “I will be       outside for you.” And then he left, closing the door behind him.
was silence and I continued with the lesson. At the end of every lesson, usually the class were all       before the bell finished ringing, leaving me saying “That’s all for today” to an empty    .  This time, when the bell went for the end of the lesson, no one      .  “That’s all for today,” I said. “You go first, sir,” said one of the boys. It made a nice change, I being out first.

小题1:B从下文的“the physics lecture room was on the second floor”“物理教室在二楼”可以知道,此处应该是有“教室”的那一座大楼。
小题8:B 从下文的“ looking out over the street and many houses”及“threw the apple”可知,这间教室不是在街道上,这里指的是教室“比街道的位置要高”,所以“苹果才会扔下去,打在车上”。on/ in the street
小题9:D此处的短语“put some words on the blackboard”表示“在黑板上写一些字”。put… on…

It was a rather hot day. Everybody seemed to be looking for some kind of relief, so an ice cream store was a natural place to stop at.
A little girl, holding her money firmly, entered the store. Before she could say a word, the store clerk sharply told her to get outside and read the sign on the door, and stay out until she put on the shoes. She left slowly, and a big man followed her out of the store.

Lu Xun is one of the greatest Chinese writers of the 20th century. Besides his famous stories, he also wrote many influential articles about the living conditions of Chinese people.
Born in 1881 to a wealthy family, Lu Xun had a happy childhood. In 1893, however, his grandfather, a senior government official, was put into prison for taking money. At the same time, his father became seriously ill. From that time on, his family were no longer accepted by their relatives and friends. These early experiences greatly influenced his writing.
By the time Lu Xun arrived in Nanjing to study at university in 1899, he already believed that Chinese society had to change and become modern. In 1902 he went to study in Japan. There, he began writing articles for several Chinese student magazines. He showed a gift for writing and translating and he even wrote several books, although none was popular. He returned to China in 1909 because he was in need of money.
After working for several years as a teacher in Beijing, Lu Xun again returned to writing. In 1918, he wrote his famous short story Diary of a Madman. It was the first Chinese novel published using the everyday language that people spoke, which helped make it a great success. This, together with his novel The True Story of Ah Q (1921), made Lu Xun a leading Chinese writer.
Although successful, Lu Xun still worried greatly about China’s future. In 1926, he moved to Shanghai and gave up writing stories in order to devote himself to what he called “pen warfare”. He now only wrote articles which called on the people to fight against the government. For this, the government stopped him from publishing any more books. I arrived at my mother's home for our Monday family dinner. The smells of food      over from the kitchen. Mother was pulling out quilt (被子) after quilt from the boxes,     showing their beauties. She was        for a quilt show at the Wooden Church. When we began to fold and put them        into the boxes, my attention was        by something at the bottom of one box. I        it out. “What is it?” I asked.
“Oh?” Mom said, “that's Mama's quilt.”
I        the quilt. It looked        a group of school children had        it together: irregular designs, childish pictures, a crooked        on the right.
“Grandmother made this?” I said,       . My grandmother was a        at making quilts. This didn't certainly look like any of the quilts she had made.
“Yes, right before she died. I brought it home last year and made some       ,” she said. “I’m still working on it. See, this is        I’ve done so far.”
I looked at it more closely. She had made straight a crooked line. At the center of the quilt, she had stitched a piece of cloth        those words: “My mother made many quilts. She didn't get all line       . But I think this is beautiful. I want to see it finished. Her last quilt.”
“Oh, this is so nice, mom,” I said. It        to me that by completing my grandmother’s quilt, my mother was        her own mother. I realized I held in my hands a family       . It started with the loving hands of one woman, and continued with the loving hands of another,        two generations.
