12.Every day, people come into contact with thousands of chemicals. These chemicals are said to be harmless to human health. In fact, the chemicals are considered so safe that we wash with them.We put them on our bodies and even our faces.Other chemical products are used throughout our homes.
By the time you walk out of your front door, you have already been exposed to thousands of chemicals.
On its own, each chemical seems harmless. But in combination with other chemicals, they may become deadly. That is the finding of a two-year study by a high-profile(高调的)task force of scientists. The task force was told to investigate the cancer-causing possibility of chemical mixtures.
Linda Gulliver was one of the 174 scientists on the task force.Their job was to study the cancer-causing potential of 85 chemicals. All 85 are said to be common in the environment.
Ms.Gulliver explains that chemicals have the potential or ability to form dangerous mixtures.Even simple minerals can become dangerous when mixed with chemicals found in plastics or beauty products.
Working in groups, the scientists explored how different chemical mixtures could lead to cancer.Ms.Gulliver's team looked at the ability of different combinations to support the increase of malignant(恶性的)human cells.
She says the current way to identify whether chemicals cause cancer is to test them one at a time. This method leads, she adds,to a long list of supposedly"safe"chemicals. She and her team say that approach needs to change.
"We definitely need certain research…to find out what mixtures of chemicals would be more harmful than others; what groups of chemicals, when together, would produce more harmful effects. And at the moment, that is not known."
An estimated one in five cancers has been linked to chemical exposure. It may turn out that the cancer-causing villain(恶棍)is not a single chemical at all.

32.What effect may one single chemical have on us according to the text?B
A.It may destroy our body.
B.It may not cause danger to us.
C.It may let us suffer from cancer.
D.It may let our body make a change.
33.What can we learn about Ms.Gulliver's research?D
A.She has found 85 cancer-causing chemicals.
B.She has found reasons for five kinds of cancers.
C.She has found that only one chemical can cause cancer.
D.She is not sure what mixtures of chemicals are more harmful.
34.According to the text,we can infer that the studyB.
A.is just wasting time and money
B.is still in need of great efforts
C.will cause panic in public
D.will be resisted by the public
35.What is the best title for the text?A
A.Mixtures of Safe Chemicals May Cause Cancer
B.Being Exposed to One Chemicals Is Dangerous
C.How Mixtures of Safe Chemicals Come into Being?
D.What Is the Real Cause For Cancer?

分析 短文主要讲了单一的化学物品可能对我们是无害的,但是如果与其他的化学物品混合在一起就可以导致癌症.

解答 32.B,细节理解题,根据句子 On its own, each chemical seems harmless可知单一的化学物品是对我们无害的,故答案为B.
33.D,推理判断题,根据句子what groups of chemicals,when together,would produce more harmful effects可知她不知道哪些化学物品混合在一起会更有害,故答案为D.
34.B,推理判断题,根据科学家所说的话And at the moment,that is not known.

3.Everywhere I look outside my home I see people busy on their high-tech devices,while driving,walking,shopping,even sitting in toilets.When connected electronically,they are away from physical reality.
People have been influenced to become technology addicted.One survey reported that"addicted"was the word most commonly used by people to describe their relationship to iPad and similar devices.One study found that people had a harder time resisting the allure of social media than they did for sleep,cigarettes and alcohol.
The main goal of technology companies is to get people to spend more money and time on their products,not to actually improve our quality of life.They have successfully created a cultural disease.Consumers willingly give up their freedom,money and time to catch up on the latest information,to keep pace with their peers or to appear modern.
I see people trapped in a pathological(病态的)relationship with time-sucking technology,where they serve technology more than technology serves them.I call this technology servitude.I am referring to a loss of personal freedom and independence because of uncontrolled consumption of many kinds of devices that eat up time and money.
What is a healthy use of technology devices?That is the vital question.Who is really in charge of my life?That is what people need to ask themselves if we are to have any chance of breaking up false beliefs about their use of technology.When we can live happily without using so much technology for a day or a week,then we can regain control and personal freedom,become the master of technology and discover what there is to enjoy in life free of technology.Mae West is famous for proclaiming the wisdom that"too much of a good thing is wonderful."But it's time to discover that it does not work for technology.
Richard Fernandez,an executive coach at Google acknowledged that"we can be swept away by our technologies."To break the grand digital connection people must consider how life long ago could be fantastic without today's overused technology.
25.The underlined word"allure"in Paragraph 2probably meansB.
A.advantage
B.attraction
C.adaption
D.attempt
26.From the pasage,technology companies aim toA.
A.attract people to buy their products
B.provide the latest information
C.improve people's quality of life
D.deal with cultural diseases
27.It can be inferred from this passage that peopleD.
A.consider too much technology wonderful
B.have realized the harm of high-tech devices
C.can regain freedom without high-tech devices
D.may enjoy life better without overused technology
28.What's the author's attitude towards the overusing of high-tech devices?C
A.Neutral.
B.Doubtful
C.Disapproving.
D.Sympathetic.

Last week we held a discussion on which we should do for our school before we graduate.The students in our class have different suggestion.Some students thought that we can collect money to buy some books for the school library or everything else for the school.Others students argue that there's not necessary to spend money.We can study hard and make our school feeling proud of us.In my opinion,we don't have spend money.We can do something meaningfully without money.For an example,we can do some voluntary work to beautify the school or try to get better results in the coming exams so that our school will be proud of us.

Dr.Caroline Lyon said:"It is known that little babies are sensitive to the frequency of sounds in speech,and these experiments show how this sensitivity can be modeled and contribute to the learning or word forms by a robot."
