9.During the summer I(61)went(go) to England to visit several places,(62)whereI have learned that the United States and the United Kingdom are different in cultures.For one thing,England is a lot cleaner,(63)including(include) the streets and the air.Throughout my whole traveling experience,I have learned that England and the United States are similar but are also unlike in many(64)cultural(culture) ways?
In England,they have a different dialect so some of their words differ from(65)ours(us).They also use more bicycles cars.Their method(66)ofdriving is different too.Americans drive on the left side of the car and in England they drive on the right side of the car.
There are many(67)differences(different) in the way we eat,too.In England,they eat with a knife and fork.In America,we eat French fries with our fingers and we don't use forks and knives for those kinds of foods.In America,coffee is (68)themost popular drink that adults usually drink.In England,they have tea instead of coffee.
(69)Generally(general),I think that the way people in Britain live their fives is much (70)simpler(simple).

14.Today,we're sending Sally away for a week of summer camp.She never actually asked to go.It was all my idea to sign(报名)her up.She's nearly 12,and I notice that I'm with my child nearly 24 hours a day.
Living on a farm without any neighbors,I've chosen a life that is quieter than a typical family's.But rather than longing for space away from me,Sally has become increasingly dependent on my presence.
What frightens me most is that she has become a"mini-me".She pursues my hobbies,my dreams and my opinions.And that's why I pulled her to the summer camp:a nearby wilderness camp called Hawk Circle.
After we ate,we drove to Hawk Circle.Once there,we got a tour of the grounds and were introduced to Sally's fellow campers.Sally stood by the group of children,holding my hand,horror in her eyes,trying to work up the courage to join in a game of soccer.
"I need you for a few more minutes,"she told me,holding my hand tightly.
I pulled away and walked up to one of the camp workers."Excuse me,"I said loudly."I'd like to introduce my daughter to you.Maybe you could help her meet a few of these kids."He came over to talk to Sally,and I kissed on her cheek and then my husband and I disappeared before Sally realized we were gone.
It was not until that drive home that I finally felt it.A piece of my soul had been taken from my body.I began to shake.Tears streamed down my face.It took every bit of my strength to keep driving forward.
When we arrived home,I calmed down and reminded myself why I chose this path.I want Sally to have a chance to find herself out of my shadow.I don't want to see only myself in my child.I want to learn who she is.After 12years of constantly being together,I want to finally meet my daughter for the first time.

19.For some kids,old photos and baby pictures are embarrassing.For others,they are cherished keepsakes(纪念品).But for thousands of children living in orphanages(孤儿院)worldwide,these records of the past simply don't exist.Either the kids'parents weren't around to snap photos,or the pictures have been lost.Whatever the reason is,the Memory Project is giving orphans a lasting document of their youth.
Over the last two years,the Memory Project has provided hand-painted portraits (肖像)for more than 4,000 children living in orphanages in poor countries.Ben Schumaker,24,got the idea when he was visiting an orphanage in Guatemala in Central America.But he's not creating the portraits alone.Students in hundreds of high school art classes across the U.S.paint them using photos sent from the orphanages.
Schumaker believes that the artists benefit from the project as much as the orphans do."There are two purposes of the Memory Project,"he said."One is to offer a special gift to the child abroad.The other is to help open the eyes of the student who is painting."Staring into the eyes of another person,Schumaker believes,creates a real connection.This connection raises awareness in U.S.schools about the needs of the world's poor children."It's about planting a seed,"he said.
Schumaker is also working on Books of Hope,a project in which students of all ages put together homemade books for children in Uganda and India.He hopes that one day children in Uganda and India will send books to the U.S."It's important for me to have it be a two-way exchange,"Schmnaker says.
