    7．Greyhound racing is the sixth most popular spectator sport in the United States．Over the last decade，a growing number of racers have been adopted to spend their retirement as household pets，once their racing careers are over．
    Many people hesitate to adopt a retired racing greyhound because they think only very old dogs are available．Actually，even champion racers only work until they are about three-and-a-half years old．Because greyhounds usually live to be 12 to 15 years old，their retirement is much longer than their racing careers．
    People worry that a greyhound will be more nervous and active than other dogs and will need a large space to run．These are false impressions．Greyhounds have naturally sweet，mild characters，and while they love to run，they are sprinters rather than distance runners and are sufficiently exercised with a few daily jumps around a fenced-in backyard．
    Greyhounds tend to be a little more sensitive in their stomachs and sometimes come to rescue organizations with dental problems．The dogs may also get separation anxiety，but because they are used to being kept in a cage，the results of anxiety can be contained．They're so gentle．If you want a low-energy dog，they're the right dog．
    Greyhounds do not make good watchdogs，but they are very good with children，get along well with other dogs（and usually cats as well），and are affectionate and loyal．They are intelligent，well-behaved dogs，usually housebroken in only a few days．A retired racing greyhound is a wonderful pet for almost anyone．

    Helen Keller became ill and lost her sight and hearing when 19months old （before she'd learned to speak）．She went on to become a world famous author and speaker．
    Wilma Rudolph was the 20th of 22children．As a child she suffered various diseases，leaving her left leg and foot weak and deformed．Doctors said she would never walk again．She went on to win 3gold medals in track during the 1960Olympic games．
    Mark Inglis lost both of his legs below the knees in a mountaineering accident，but has since climbed Mt Everest．No one would have predicted these successes．
    These above are cases involving individuals with limitations．They were just people with problems．If one of these people had told you what they hoped to achieve，you would have nodded kindly while quietly thinking to yourself that they had no chance．And yet the results spoke for themselves．
    Most of us will never have to face the kinds of challenges these people faced．Yet most of us will never achieve to the degree that these people have either．
