The most important thing to keep in mind when going into high school is to be yourself.Besides, I don’t know what your middle school was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you already have in one night. It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need to.

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项.选项中有两项为多余选项.

How do actors and actresses memorize hundreds of lines? Memorizing lines takes practice and constant repetition. However, there are a few ways to make the memorization process run smoothly and quickly.

1.

For most performers, there is no quicker way of memorizing lines. To learn lines, an actor must recite the play loud over and over again. Most rehearsals(彩排) encourage this by running through the lines or having a "read through". By the time opening night arrives, most actors have spoken their lines hundreds of times.

Listen to your cast members.

Sometimes inexperienced actors spend rehearsals looking at fellow performers, waiting patiently to say their next line. 2. This will help the actor learn his lines better because the context of the dialogue is absorbed.

3.

Because there is often not enough rehearsal time, many performers find ways to listen to the play’s dialogue during everyday activities. They use a tape recorder or an MP3 player to listen to the lines from each relevant scene. Some actors prefer to record the lines of all the characters, including their own. 4. Others like recording the lines of fellow cast members, and they leave a blank space so that they can insert their dialogue while listening to the recording.

Think positively and don’t panic.

Most actors will experience stage fright before the opening night. Actors forget lines now and then. When it happens, however, most of the time the audience never notice. If you forget a line in the middle of your performance, don’t freeze. Stay in character. Keep the scene going to the best of your ability. If unfortunately you forget a line once, you will probably never forget that line ever again. 5.

A. Record your lines.

B. Practice makes perfect.

C. Read lines loud and repeat them.

D. Read lines loud and remember them in a short time.

E. Sometimes embarrassment is the toughest method of memorization.

F. Then, they not only listen carefully, but they also speak all of the lines.

G. Instead, they should be listening carefully, responding in character at all times.

In summer, millions of people will head for the beach. And while the ocean can be a great place to swim and play, it may also be useful in another way. Some scientists think that waves could help make electricity.

“Have you ever been on a surfboard or boat and felt yourself being lifted up by a wave? Or have you jumped in the water and felt the energy as waves crashed over you?” asked Jamie Taylor of the Wave Energy Group at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.“There is certainly a lot of energy in waves.”

Scientists are working on using that energy to make electricity. Most waves are created when winds blow across the ocean.“The winds start out by making little ripples (波纹) in the water, but if they keep on blowing , those ripples get bigger and bigger and turn into waves, ” Taylor said.“Waves are one of nature’s ways of picking up energy and then sending it off on a journey.”

When waves come towards the shore, people can set up dams or other barricades to block the water and send it through a large wheel called a turbine (涡轮) .The turbine can then power an electrical generator (发电机) .

The United States and a few other countries have started doing research on wave energy , and it is already being used in Scotland.

The resource is huge.We will never run out of wave power, besides, wave energy does not create the same pollution as other energy sources, such as oil and coal.

Oceans cover three quarters of the earth’s surface. That would make wave power seem perfect for creating energy around the world. There are some drawbacks, however.

Jamie Taylor said that wave power still cost too much money. He said that its effects on animals in the sea were still unknown.Plus, wave power would get in the way of fishing and boat traffic.

With more research, however, “many of these problems might be overcome,” Taylor said.“Demand for energy to power our TVs and computers, drive our cars, and heat and cool our homes is growing quickly throughout the world.Finding more energy sources is very important, for traditional sources of energy like oil and gas may run out some day.”

In the future, when you turn on a light switch, an ocean wave could be providing the electricity!

1.Which of the following is NOT true?

A.Wave power costs too much money.

B.Wave energy creates the same amount of pollution as other energy sources.

C.Wave power affects fishing and boat traffic.

D.Wave power may affect marine animals.

2.We can infer from the passage that ______.

A.finding new energy sources like wave energy is important

B.wave energy is a resource that will never run out and is used all over the world

C.wave power is perfect for creating energy around the world

D.wave power doesn’t create any pollution

3.The underlined word “drawbacks” in the seventh paragraph probably means______.

A.regrets B.adventures

C.disadvantages D.difficulties

4.What can be the best title for the passage?

A.How to Get Electricity by Waves.

B.A Huge Resource of Energy.

C.Can Waves Make Electricity?

D.The Disadvantages of Wave Energy.

Believe it or not, many of the biggest change in how English is spoken have come from common people in the streets. And one of the most important places which English has changed is the playground! These playgrounds can be any place where the young people meet, such like a sports field or a beach. Often words using by black kids in big cities become popular for other kids many years later. On the beaches of southern California, teenagers invented words to describe what they felt when they surfed. These words found its way into the high schools and then to other places. Similar changes happen among young people in Ireland and Australia. Children from one group would find ways to play with another group more easily. Often they made new words just develop an identity different from their parents.
