14.He traveled in the space for twenty-one and a half hours.

4.Listening to music while you drive can improve your speed and ability to get away from accidents,according to Australian psychologists.But turning your car radio up to full volume could probably make you end up in an accident.The performance of difficult tasks can be affected if people are in loud noise.The experience of  pulling up at traffic lights alongside cars with loud music made some psychologists in the University of Sydney look into whether loud music has something to do with driving.
The psychologists invited 60men and women aged between 20and 28as subjects and tested them on almost the same driving tasks under three noise conditions:silence,rock music played at a gentle 55decibels (分贝),and the same music at 85decibels.
For 10minutes the subjects sat in front of a screen operating a simple machine like a car.They had to track a moving disk on screen,react to traffic signals changing color,and brake (刹车) in response to arrows that appeared without warning.
On the tracking task,there was no difference in performance under the three noise conditions.But under both the loud and quiet music conditions,the performers"braked"at a red light about 50milliseconds sooner than they did when there was no rock music at all.That could mean a reduction in braking distance of a couple of meters actually,the difference between life and death for a pedestrian.
When it came to the arrows that appeared across the visual field,the psychologists found that when the music was quiet,people responded faster to objects in their central field of sight by about 50milliseconds.For the people listening at 85decibels,response times dropped by a further 50milliseconds-a whole tenth of second faster than those"driving"with no music.
"But there's a trade-off,"the psychologists told the European Congress of Psychology."They lose the ability to look around the whole situation effectively."In responding to objects that suddenly appeared,people in 85decibel rock music were around 100milliseconds slower than both the other groups.Since some accidents-such as children running into the road-take place without any notice,drivers listening to loud music must be less safe as a result.

50.Which of the following is the best way to make driving safer?B

6.The ocean is always moving:waves break on the surface,sea levels rise and fall with the tides,and currents flow below the surface.Although it looks as if the water in a wave is moving across the surface of the ocean,it is not.The water is actually moving up and down.This is why an object on top of a wave will bob up and down,but not move forward.
When a wave reaches the shore,however,the water does move forward.It surges(前进)onto the shore.This is because the"bottom"of the wave drags on the sand and the"top"continues on,crashing onto the shore.This crashing water is called the surf.Most waves are caused by wind blowing across the ocean's surface.The size of a wave depends on how fast and how far the wind blows over the surface and on the depth of the wave.Small winds can cause ripples,while strong winds create large hurricane waves.
Along most shorelines.water levels rise and fall twice a day.These changes,called tides.are caused by the gravitational pull of the Sun and the Moon.The ocean surface lifts,or bulges(凸出),in two places:on the side of Earth that faces the Moon and on the side of Earth that faces away from the Moon.Both bulges cause a high tide on nearby shorelines.At the same time that the high tides occur,low tides occur between the two bulges.
Tides are also affected by the pull of the Sun,although the effect of the Sun is not as great as the effect of the Moon.When the Moon and Sun are lined up with Earth,the combined pull is the strongest,causing the highest high tides and the lowest low tides.These very high and very low tides are called spring tides.Weaker tides,called neap tides,happen when the Moon and the Sun are at right angles to Earth.High tides alternate with low tides.Along most shorelines,a high tide or low tide occurs about every six hours.
11.The word"alternate"in the last paragraph meansD.
A.appear suddenly
B.bob up and down
C.change or become quickly
D.happen or follow one after another
12.The best title for the passage isA.
A.The Moving Ocean
C.Tides and Waves

D.Waves and Currents.

3.The Cuban iguana is a species of lizard(蜥蜴)of the iguana family.It is the largest of the West Indian rock iguanas,one of the most endangered groups of lizards. This species with red eyes and a thick tail is one of the largest lizards in the Caribbean.
The Cuban iguana is primarily herbivorous; 95% of its diet consists of the leaves,flowers and fruits from as many as 30plant species,including the seaside rock bush and various grasses.However,Cuban iguanas occasionally consume animal matter,and individuals have been observed eating the dead flesh of birds,fish and crabs.The researchers wrote that quite a few people on Isla Magueyes could have caused this incident.
The Cuban iguana is distributed throughout the rocky southern coastal areas of mainland Cuba and its surrounding islands with a wild population booming on Isla Magueyes,Puerto Rico.It is also found on the Cayman Islands of Little Cayman and Cayman Brac,where a separate subspecies occurs.Females guard their nest sites and often nest in sites half destroyed by Cuban crocodiles.To avoid the attack from them,the Cuban iguana often makes its home within or near prickly-pear cact(仙人掌).
In general the species is in decline,more quickly on the mainland than on the outlying islands.One of the reasons for their decline is habitat destruction caused by the over consuming of farm animals,housing development,and the building of tourist resorts on the beaches where the animals prefer to build their nests.Although the wild population is in decline,the numbers of iguanas have been sharply increased as a result of captive-breeding(圈养)and other conservation programs.

25.The underlined word"herbivorous"(Paragraph 2)probably meansC.
A.dangerous
B.gentle
C.plant-eating
D.flesh-eating
26.Why does the Cuban iguana build its nest near prickly-pear cacti?D
A.To keep itself cool.
B.To get the food easily.
C.To stay away from people.
D.To avoid crocodiles'attack.
27.How many reasons are mentioned for the habitat destruction?B
A.Two.
B.Three.
C.Four.
D.Five.
28.What's the author's purpose of writing the text?A
A.To give us a brief introduction to the Cuban iguana.
B.To show he is concerned about the Cuban iguana.
C.To explain reasons for the Cuban iguana's decline.
D.To draw people's attention to the endangered Cuban iguana.
