11.There are few habits as annoying as someone making us wait.However,some punctually-challenged people have no intention of offending anyone.They still want to keep friends,family and bosses happy.They are often painfully aware and ashamed of the damage their lateness could do to their relationships,reputations,careers and finances.
Johnson,a doctor in New York,says his reputation for being unpunctual can sometimes be attributed to a misunderstanding of opinion."A friend will ask me to come over,and he'll say'come anytime from seven.'But if I do turn up at eight or later,he will be annoyed."
Joanna a teacher in London,for whom the most distressing thing is writing school reports,never makes the deadline for herself."I always spend weeks carefully considering everything about the reports,"she says,"just for fear that any error arises."

【写作内容】
1.用约30个单词为以上材料撰写概要;
2.用约120个单词发表你的观点,内容包括:
(1)退到带来的不良影响(至少两点);
(2)给Johnson和Joanna提出你的建议,至少两条.
【写作要求】
1.写作过程中不能直接引用原文语句;
2.作文中不能出现真实姓名和学校名称;
3.不必写标题.
Different countries adopt different tolerance towards one's lateness.Actually,some people are late not deliberately but because they misunderstand others'opinions or pay too much attention to details.
As we all know,frequent lateness will have negative effects on one's daily life.On the one hand,unpunctual people tend to leave a bad impression on those who have made the appointment with them.Others usually regard being punctual as a sign of keeping the promise.On the other hand,lateness sometimes brings about much trouble in solving urgent problems.
Asfor those who are unintentionally late,like Johnson and Joanna,I have two suggestions as follows.First,whenever you make appointments with others,make sure you have understood all the details and try to get there a few minutes before the appointed time.Second,make good preparations for the appointments but never become too particular about every detail..

Actually,some people are late not deliberately but because they misunderstand others'opinions or pay too much attention to details
事实上,有些人迟到不是故意而是因为他们误解了别人的意见或太注重细节.
高分句型二:

2.Why would you want to speak without notes?A presenter that keeps checking his notes looks as if he didn't prepare or he doesn't know much about the topic.That can damage your image in the mind of the audience and no wonder their thoughts will wander during your speech.So,let's discover how you can speak without keeping checking notes while giving a presentation.
The most common technique is to use key word notes.While giving the presentation you are simply filling in the blanks between the key words.You can do this because you know your material well.This method makes it easy for you to recall what you plan to cover.The challenge is to cut your presentation down to a few key words.
The second technique is to prepare your presentation as a series of questions.The questions could be the most common questions about your business.You've heard and answered those questions many times so you can certainly talk about them.Asking yourself a specific question is also an effective way of drawing out the information from your memory.A variation(变体) of this technique is to ask your audience questions.Listen to their responses and then add your comments to fill in the gaps(间隙).This"unpredictable"method will make your presentation appear more like a conversation.Therefore you will look more confident and knowledgeable.But you can't know the direction of the question.
The third technique is to use props(道具).Put them on a table in the order that you plan to address them.They could be products,tools or toys.You could even use colored pieces of paper,books or letters.They serve as a visual clue(提示) to you and add the"show-and-tell"feature to your presentation.

B.make your presentation well organized
C.remind you of the things you are going to talk about

A.you can't predict the way in which the questions develop
B.whether the audience will be glad to participate is unknown
C.you can't know how much should be prepared to fill in the gaps
D.the"conversation"style may make the presentation out of order
50.Which of the following is true according to the passage?B

3.It's finally that time:the start of the college year.For some,this is the first year.For me,it's the last.But I still remember that summer between high school and college when I didn't really know what I was getting myself into.There are plans and ideas about what my college experience was going to be like,but none of them worked out as planned.Here are three things I wish I had known before my freshman year.
(1)Use the mental health services available to you.you aren't alone.
That first night at college was memorable.I was scared and in a new place.There was homesickness that got better as I settled in.and though I continued to miss things from home,these weren't the only reasons I felt down.The academic pressure to succeed and the social pressure to fit in are too much for some people.And these pressures don't just happen in freshman year.
For me,there were upsets long after the days that required a map to figure out where all the buildings were on campus.Close friends guided me in the right direction,which was important because talking helps---even if it's just with a friend.Don't be afraid to take that extra step.
(2)It's OK to change your mind about your major(专业).
I entered the fall of my freshman year ready to major in politics,philosophy and economics,in preparation for a law degree.Things changed.You meet new people and discover new interests.
It's normal to be a little unsure of your plans once you start taking classes.So,don't worry if you haven't figured out exactly what you're going to major in.it will likely change anyway.
(3)You're there to get a degree and later a job,but a little fun won't hurt.
When my college days are long gone,I'm not going to remember the grades I got on papers or the late nights spent studying.
Instead,memorable moments will include playing video games with my roommate at 3:00am instead of writing a paper,or late-night runs with my friends after a night out---things that make for lifelong memories.
Doing well is important inside the classroom,but there are also jobs,internships(实习)and other pressures.Employers weigh internships and employment during college more heavily than your GPA,according to a 2012survey of employers by The Chronicle of Higher Education Finding a balance of killing it in the classroom,getting internships and having fun with friends is important.You don't want to burn out early.
Everyone says that college is the best four years of your life.but it can also be a stressful,messy period of self-exploration and discovery.But is it fun?No question.
Getting most from your (66)collegelife
Students need to(67)been keep/havethree things in mind before their first year in college.
Mental health service is helpful.●Both academic and social(68)pressureleads to students'unhappiness in college.
●(69)Talkingwith a friend is a good step to get help.
Change the major when necessary●Things might change when college students have new friends and (70)interests
●Students are(71)likelyto change their majors even after they start taking certain classes.
Learning and career are the primary goals in college,but first have some (72)fun.●Playing video games or outing with friends at night will be the most (73)unforgettablemoments in college.
●(74)Employersput more value on internships and employment during college than students'academic achievements.
conclusionGet yourself (75)ready/preparedbecause college years can be stressful and messy.

20.When a leafy plant is under attack,it doesn't sit quietly.Back in 1983,two scientists,Jack Schultz and lan Baldwin,reported that young maple trees getting bitten by insects send out a particular smell that neighboring plants can get.These chemicals come from the injured parts of the plant and seem to be an alarm.What the plants pump through the air is a mixture of chemicals known as volatile organic compounds,VOCs for short.
Scientists have found that all kinds of plants give out VOCs when being attacked.It's a plant's way of crying out.But is anyone listening?Apparently.Because we can watch the neighbours react.
Some plants pump out smelly chemicals to keep insects away.But others do double duty.They pump out perfumes designed to attract different insects who are natural enemies to the attackers.Once they arrive,the tables are turned .The attacker who was lunching now becomes lunch.
In study after study,it appears that these chemical conversations help the neighbors.The damage is usually more serious on the first plant,but the neighbors,relatively speaking,stay safer because they heard the alarm and knew what to do.
Does this mean that plants talk to each other?Scientists don't know.Maybe the first plant just made a cry of pain or was sending a message to its own branches,and so,in effect,was talking to itself.Perhaps the neighbors just happened to"overhear"the cry.So information was exchanged,but it wasn't a true,intentional back and forth.
Charles Darwin,over 150years ago,imagined a world far busier,noisier and more intimate(亲密的) than the world we can see and hear.Our senses are weak.There's a whole lot going on.

32.What does a plant do when it is under attack?D
A.It makes noises.
B.It gets help from other plants.
C.It stands quietly.
D.It sends out certain chemicals.
33.What does the author mean by"the tables are turned"in paragraph 3?A
A.The attackers get attacked.
B.The insects gather under the table.
C.The plants get ready to fight back.
D.The perfumes attract natural enemies.
34.Scientists find from their studies that plants canB.
A.predict natural disasters
B.protect themselves against insects
C.talk to one another intentionally
D.help their neighbors when necessary
35.What can we infer from the last paragraph?C
A.The word is changing faster than ever.
B.People have stronger senses than before
C.The world is more complex than it seems
D.People in Darwin's time were more imaginative.
