Yesterday we had a discussion about whether music should be played during the class break or not. Towards this, most of the students think that music should be played for it can produce a better efficiency and greater relaxation as well as a lively and happy atmosphere. However, some believe they can't get the expected effect from playing music, for the class break time is short. What is needed most during the class break is peace rather than the noise produced by music. After a heated discussion, we finally reached an agreement that it' s better to play soft music, which is suitable for our middle school students as well.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿I was brought up in the countryside by my grandmother. She was a very courageous and inspiring woman and was very beautiful, too. In comparison with her or some of my classmates, I always felt that I was not beautiful or pretty. In fact, when I was studying in middle school, I thought I was not beautiful and just because of these bad feelings I was not very confident. I often felt self-conscious. One day when I was walking with my grandmother after lunch, we met one of her friends. We talked for a few minutes. Just as my grandmother¡¯s friend was about to leave, she turned to me and praised, ¡°Xiao Wen, you look so beautiful today in that green dress.¡±

No one had ever praised me before. It was so encouraging. Suddenly I felt confident and happy. I couldn¡¯t believe that someone described me as beautiful. It is true that those words turned my life around. And I admit that I treasured that green dress for a long time.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿One morning, Mr Hare£¨Ò°Íã©was running on the road. Suddenly he saw Mr Tortoise£¨Îڹ꣩, who was also running on the road towards him. Mr Hare ran up to Mr Tortoise and laughed at him. Mr Tortoise got angry and wouldn't take failure lying down, so he suggested having a race to see who could first get to the big tall tree by the roadsides. Mr Hare agreed with him without hesitation(ÓÌÔ¥). The race began. Mr Hare and Mr Tortoise started from the same line at the same time.

When Mr Hare was far ahead of Mr Tortoise and even couldn't see Mr Tortoise, he thought that Mr Tortoise fell behind and couldn't catch up with him. So he stopped and lay down to have a nap. But soon he fell asleep. At the same time, Mr Tortoise kept on running and running. When Mr Hare woke up, he found Mr Tortoise had already sat under the tree and was smiling at him!

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿ A group of frogs £¨ÇàÍÜ£©were traveling through the woods. And two of them fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The two frogs didn't listen and tried to jump out of the pit with all their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop. Finally, one of the frogs heard what the other frogs were saying and gave up, so he died.

The other frog went on jumping as hard as he could. Once again, the other frogs cried at him and told him to stop and just allow himself to die. He jumped even harder and finally made himself out. When he got out, the other frogs said, "Didn't you hear us?" The frog explained to them that something was wrong with his hearing. He thought they were encouraging him the whole time.

There is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging word to someone who is down can lift him or her up and help them make it through the day. Be careful of what you say. Speak life to those who cross your path. The power of words¡ªanyone can speak bad words that rob another of the spirit to go on in difficult times. But an encouraging word can go such a long way.
