2.Cyberspace(网络空间) has given rise to a new social change where people make friends from across the world,but know little about their next-door neighbors.This worries critics (批评家),but some often find an Internet friendship more pleasant.
Take Bob for example.His neighbor doesn't know anything about gardening,but his instant messaging friend Gr33nThum does.Besides,Gr33nThum doesn't do that annoying sound when he talks.

However,a report entitled"The Strength of Internet Ties"provides a different opinion.Sociologists are suggesting that the Internet helps develop social networks and make use of them when it matters most.

In addition to expanding and strengthening the social ties people keep in the offline world,Internet and e-mail provide a social and informational support group that helps people make difficult decisions and face challenges."Internet use provides online users a path to resources,such as access to people who may have the right information to help deal with family health problems or find a new job,"says John Horrigan,author of the report.
"The Internet creates a new basis for community.Rather than relying on a single community for social support,people often must actively seek out a variety of appropriate people and resources for different situations,"says co-author Barry Wellman.

32.Critics think that making friends onlineB.
A.exposes Internet users to danger.
B.leads to coldness between people

6.I'm Rich Kleinfeldt with some financial expressions used in business and the stock market.
Our first expression is"in the red."It is another way of saying that a business is losing money.In the past,numbers in the financial records of a company were written in red ink to show a loss.
A business magazine recently published a report about a television company.The report said the company was still in the red,but was able to cut its loss from the year before.
A profit by a business is written in black numbers.So a company that is"in the black"is making money.
Another financial expression is"run on the bank."That is what happens when many people try to withdraw all their money from a bank.A"run on the bank"usually happens when people believe there is danger a bank may fail or close.
Newspaper reports about a banking crisis in Russia used that expression.They said the government acted because of fears that the crisis would cause a run on the banks.
"Day trading"is a system that lets investors trade directly on an electronic market system.It was the first completely computerized stock market.It sells stocks of companies not listed on any stock exchange.Many high technology companies are listed on it.
Day trading companies provide a desk and a computer system to an investor who wants to trade.Individuals must provide fifty thousand dollars or more to the trading company to pay for the stocks they buy.Thousands of other investors do day trading from computers in their homes.
A day trader watches stock prices carefully.When he sees a stock rise in price,he uses the computer to buy shares of the stock.If the stock continues to rise in price in the next few minutes,the day trader sells the shares quickly to make a small profit.Then he looks for another stock to buy.If a stock goes down instead of up,he sells it and accepts the loss.
The idea is to make a small profit many times during the day.Day traders may buy and sell stocks hundreds of times each day.

61.Which of the following statements is TRUE?A
A.If a business is losing money,we can say it is"in the red."
B.In the past,numbers in the financial records of a company were written in red ink.
C.A business magazine only publishes reports about companies in the black.
D.The television company has been in the black since the year before.
62.A"run on the bank"happens when peopleB.
A.try to withdraw their money from a bank
B.are afraid that the bank might close down
C.know that there might be a crisis in the government
D.think that they can't earn money enough to support their families
63.Which of the following is NOT true about Day trading?A
A.Day traders can make small profits without any loss.
B."Day trading"was the first completely computerized stock market.
C.You must give some money to the trading company to pay for the stocks you buy.
D.You can do day trading from computers in your homes.
64.How many financial expressions are explained in the passage?B
A.3.  B.4.  C.5.  D.6.

16.Suppose you don't need your car today. And suppose,as it happens, that a stranger in your area does need a car.Would you be willing to rent yours out?
Several car-sharing start-ups,including Getaround,RelayRides and JustShareIt,are eager to connect car owners with renters this way.The companies have different rules, but participating
owners receive, generally speaking, about two-thirds of the rental earnings.RelayRides says an owner of a midsize,late-model sedan who rents out a car for 10 hours a week could expect to clear about$3,000 a year.
Peer-to-peer car sharing remains in the trial stage; it can be found in San Francisco and a few other places. It has a long way to go before it becomes the auto equivalent of Airbnb, the surprise success story for peer-to-peer sharing of space in apartments and houses.
Shelby Clark, founder of RelayRides, says potential investors in his company have been concerned that owners will be afraid to hand their car over to strangers. To address that,he points to Airbnb, saying,"Letting people sleep in your living room is much more of a disturbance into your personal space than letting someone use your car."
All of these companies offer their own insurance coverage for their renters, which are supposed to put owners'minds at ease. But only two states-California and Oregon-have passed laws to clarify that an owner will not suffer any consequences should a car-sharing renter have an accident.
"In all the other states, legal ambiguity remains,"Shelby Clark says."If a renter should be involved in a serious accident in those states, the victim can be expected to go after every party possible, including the car's owner."
Also to remove the worries of car owners, the driving records of renters are checked for recent serious violations.

36.What does the underlined word"sedan"in Paragraph 2 probably refer to?A
A.A kind of car
B.An owner of a car.

D.A car-sharing renter.
37.Which of the following is true of Airbnb?B

A.has to take legal responsibility
B.will not suffer the consequence
C.is not covered by health insurance

3.High school dropouts(辍学者)earn an average of $ 9,000 less per year than graduates.Now a new study moves away a common belief why they quit.It's much more than failing in exams at school.
Society tends to think of high school dropouts as kids who just can't cut it.They are lazy,and perhaps not too bright.So researchers were surprised when they asked more than 450kids who quit school about why they left.
"The vast majority actually had passing grades and they were confident that they could have graduated from high school."John Bridgeland,the executive researcher said.About 1million teens leave school each year.Only about half of African-American and Hispanic(美籍西班牙的)student will receive a diploma,and actually all dropouts come to regret their decision.So,if failing grades don't explain why these kids quit,what does?Again,John Bridgeland:"The most dependable finding was that they were bored.""They found classes uninteresting; they weren't inspired or motivated.They didn't see any direct connection between what they were learning in the classroom to their own lives,or to their possible careers."
The study found that most teens who do drop out wait until they turn sixteen,which happens to be the age at which most states allow students to quit.In the US,only one state,New Mexico,has a law requiring teenagers to stay in high school until they graduate.Only four states:California,Tennessee,Texas and Utah,plus the District of Columbia,require school attendance until age 18,no exceptions,another researcher says raising the compulsory attendance age may be one way to keep more kids in school.
"As these dropouts look back,they realize they've made a mistake.And anything that sort of gives these people an extra push to stick it out and it through to the end is probably a helpful measure."
New Hampshire may be the next state to raise its school attendance age to 18.But critics say that forcing the students unwilling to continue their studies to stay in school misses the point-the need for reform.It's been called for to reinvent high school education to make it more challenging and relevant,and to ensure that kids who do stick it out receive a diploma that actually means something.

61.Most high school students drop out of school becauseD.
A.they often fail in exams               B.they are lazy and not intelligent

62.According to the passage,which state will have a law requiring school attendance until 18?D
A.California        B.Utah.     C.New Mexico       D.New Hampshire
63.What do the dropouts think of their decision to quit school?C
A.It was a good idea.
B.It was interesting and instructive.
C.It was a mistake.
D.It was a success.
