18.A safari park is a park in which wild animals are kept.They are mainly located in east or central Africa.They often occupy a very wild area,with mountains and rivers.To visit the park and look at the animals,people have to drive around in a car for a few of hours because the park is huge.
In south Africa there is a safari park, which contains all sorts of wild animals like lions, elephants, rhinoceroses, zebras, wild pigs, deer and giraffes.
There is a wild road leading through the park,but nobody is permitted to walk on the road.Anyone traveling in the park has to go in a car because wild animals may fiercely attack people.From the car he may see almost every types of African wildlife.Some of these are getting rare because people kill them for various reasons.For example,rhinoceroses are killed for their horns,which are used in traditional Chinese medicines for colds and headaches.Perhaps they will be seen only in museums and books one day.
Travels may purchase food for the animals.They can feed them when they tour the park.Of course,they should not feed them in a close distance because the wild animals may attack people.In addition,they should only give proper food to the animals.
A traveler may carry a gun with him in his journey.The gun is given to him by the government.However,it is not used for hunting.In fact,a seal(封条) is fixed to it.The traveler may fire at a wild beast to defend himself in case he is attacked.However,he has to prove to the government that he has been attacked and that he has not fired at a harmless animal.
13.When travelers feed the animals,they shouldB.
A.give nutritious food            B.stay away from the animals
C.stand close                     D.use tools
14.The government knows whether the gun is fired by the traveler or not byA.
A.checking the seal                B.hunting the animals
C.following the traveler           D.observing the traveler
15.What is the best title of this passage?C
A.Protecting Wild Animals           B.Traveling in South Africa
C.A Safari Park in South Africa     D.Wild Animals in South Africa.

分析 南非的safari公园,野生动物遍地都是.想要在公园里游玩,安全第一:呆在车里前行;远距离喂食;佩戴枪支以防不测等.

解答 13.B 细节理解题.根据第四段的第三句"Of course, they should not feed them in a close distance because the wild animals may attack people."
(However,it is not used for hunting. In fact,a seal is fixed to it.).通过查看封条是否撕开来判断游客是否使用过枪支.故选A.

Some things we send into space fall back toward the earth and burn up in the atmosphere.(63) Butlarger pieces sometimes survive the extreme heat and hit the ground or the ocean(64)at/withgreat speeds.So there is always concern that something may fall from the sky and will be(65) harmful(harm) to us.
But space junk(66)falling(fall) on housetops (屋顶) is not the biggest worry.Scientists are concerned about what will happen when (67)anempty rocket strikes another while orbiting (绕…运行) the earth.Two big things become many smaller things.They then hit(68)otherthings.The pieces get smaller and smaller until(69)they form a cloud of junk that blocks the path of future space vehicles.
So what can be done to clean up the space around our planet?Scientists have been worried(70)aboutthe space junk for many years.Right now,the costs of the clean-up have been too great.

6.A man enters a store to buy milk.He walks out of the store with milk,That's all--milk.At the same time,a woman enters the same store and also buys milk.Besides,she buys chicken to make dinner that night.Then she gets coffee for breakfast and remembers stamps to mail the bills.
And that is the difference between the female and male brains simply explained in a store.Generally speaking,men do one thing at a time while women do many.Doing many things at one time is often called^multi-tasking a very popular word these days.
Now scientific research supports this theory about male and female brains.A recent study has proved what we have known all along-men and women think differently.
Last year,some scientists studied brain images of 949people aged from 8to 22years old They found that male brains have more connections only on one side of the brain.In the female brain,they found more activities and connections between the right and left sides of the brain The left side of the brain is known as the side of"reason".The right one is known as the"creative"side.
Regina Verma,a professor in the brain study,says when women are asked to do something difficult they might use different parts of the brain.Men,she adds,generally use just one side of the brain.
As a result,men generally deal directly with a problem.In fact,there is a strong connection between the"understandings and the"action"parts of men's brains.Women,however,might include other parts of the brain,like the part connected with rsson§d the part connected with sensitivity (敏感性) when solving a problem.They take a less direct path to find a solution.

64.What's  the finding of the study?C
A.Womeh can find a solution to a problem directly.
B.Men use different parts of the brains to solve a problem.
C.Men and women think differently when solving probles.

So I started thinking how often I let Garbage Trucks run right over me and how often I take their garbage and spread it to other people.
I began to see Garbage Trucks.I see the load  people are carrying.I see them coming to dump it.And like my taxi driver,I don't take it personally.I just smile,wave,wish them well,and move on.

3.Have you ever looked toward the sky on a fall day and witnessed a group of migrating birds?If so,you probably noted the V-shaped formation of the birds or the birds flying in a ball-like formation.Why do birds fly this way?Many theories have been developed to explain the formation patterns of different types of birds.
One theory is that birds fly in certain formations to take advantage of the laws of nature.The birds know that flying in a V-shaped pattern will save energy.Like the lead cyclist in a race who decreases wind force for the cyclists who follow,the lead bird cuts wind force for the birds that follow.This decrease in wind force means that the birds use up to 70percent less energy during their flight.When the lead bird becomes tired,a more rested bird takes over that position.
But saving energy is important for more than one reason.Sometimes food is short during migration flights.Keeping energy enables the birds to fly longer distances between meals.
When food is sighted,the birds guide one another in a different way.When a bird identifies a familiar feeding area,it might turn around in order to signal the group to change direction.Then,this bird becomes the new leader.It helps guarantee that other birds will know exactly where it is going.Then the whole group makes a change in direction,gently streaming from the sky down to the ground.This formation is like an arrow pointing to the location of food.
Scientists have also studied the birds that sometimes fly in a ball-like formation.Researchers believe that the birds come together if a predator (天敌) is spotted.The predator may then become impatient waiting for a single bird to fly away from the group.The birds will often dip and dive as a group,frustrating even the most persistent enemy.Scientists report that this is a very effective method of defense against an attack.
The birds care for their fellow fliers through teamwork.As transportation expert Henry Ford once said,"If everyone is moving forward together,then success takes care of itself."When it comes to teamwork,these feathered fliers are a soaring success!

43.According to the passage,we can learn that birdsC.

45.To protect themselves from attack,birds willD.
A.break into groups   B.come close together

10.Airport Delays on the Rise
Delays cause extreme anger among travelers, and cost the country billions in lost productivity.
An FAA study listed eleven major problems and suggested eleven solutions. All problems are in air traffic control. The various regions(地区)don't talk to each other enough. Each region operates differently and the number of planes in so-called regional traffic is increasing.
In the first of eleven solutions,an FAA national center will take control from the regions during heavy traffic or bad weather.
Jane Garvey of the FAA says,"The purpose of the command(指挥)center is to really make those decisions that affect the system in total."Also, the FAA promises publicly again to upgrade its computers.
Michael Barr is a safety expert at the University of Southern California,"We've got fares that are reduced.More people want to fly and we are actually filling the air of the United States with air traffic."
An example of this is that the San Francisco International Airport is growing fast as a world-wide gateway and as a center to an expanded(扩展的)regional service.
Ron Wilson of the San Francisco International Airport says,"If we've got 16,17,18 aircraft, departing at 8 a.m.,the guy that is on the 18th plane is going to be 40 minutes late."
Jane Garvey says,"It's important to note that flying is more popular. It's becoming a form of public transportation for a number of people. That's having an effect on the delay numbers as well."
Weather causes about 70% of delays. Then the FAA moves planes farther apart from five miles to as much as 20 miles. The new rule may reduce that to 10 miles. But if the sky is already crowded, where do those planes go?
A traveler says,"Naturally,I think the more space between planes, the safer for travelers."
The FAA calls it an improvement, not a final solution. The public say the major problems remain:too many planes, too few controllers and too little modernization.
44.According to the FAA study, the biggest problem leading to airport delays lies inC.
A.the reduced plane fares
B.the expanded regional service
C.the poor air traffic control
D.the increasing passenger numbers
45.What is the writer's attitude towards reducing the space between planes?A
A.Doubtful
B.Supportive
C.Confident
D.Interested.
46.It can be inferred from the passage thatB.
A.the FAA will take control from the regions according to their requirements
B.passengers had better be prepared for airport delays in the near future
C.upgraded computer systems promise planes to be on time
D.plane fares will get raised to reduce passengers.

7."Cleverness is a gift while kindness is a choice.Gifts are easy-they're given after all.Choices can be hard."--Jeff Bezos.
I got the idea to start Amazon 16years ago.I came across the fact that the Internet usage was growing at 2,300percent per year.I'd never seen or heard of anything that grew that fast,and the idea of building an online bookstore with millions of titles was very exciting to me.I had just turned 30years old,and I'd been married for a year.I told my wife MacKenzie that I wanted to quit my job and go to do this crazy thing that probably wouldn't work since most start-ups don't,and I wasn't sure what to expect.MacKenzie told me I should go for it.As a young boy,I'd been a garage inventor.I'd always wanted to be an inventor,and she wanted me to follow my passion.

8.Students who say they never or hardly ever use dictionaries often speak English well but usually write poorly, because they make many mistakes.
The students who use dictionaries most do not learn especially well either. The ones who look up every new word do not read fast. Therefore they do not have time to read much. Those who use small two-language dictionaries have the worst problems.Their dictionaries often give only one or two words as translations of English. But one English word often has many translations in a foreign language and one foreign word has many translations in English.
The most successful students are those who use large college edition dictionaries with about 100,000 words but do not use them too often. When they are reading, these students first try to get the general idea and understand new words from the context. Then they reread and use the dictionary to look up only key words that they still do not understand. They use dictionaries more for writing. If they are not sure how to spell a word,or divide it into syllables (音节),they always use a dictionary. Also,if they think a noun might have an unusual plural form, they check these in a dictionary.
32.The writer thinks thatC.
A.choose a good dictionary, and you'll be successful in learning English
B.dictionaries are not necessary to the students who learn English
C.it is very important for students to use good dictionaries properly

A.Dictionaries have little effect on learning to speak English.
B.Whatever new words you meet while reading, never use dictionaries.
C.Small two-language dictionaries have serious defects (缺陷).
D.Reading something for the first time, you'd better not use dictionaries.
34.When in the reading does the writer advise students to use a good dictionary?D
A.At the beginning of the reading
B.At the end of the reading
C.During the first reading
D.After the first reading

C.why students should use large college edition dictionaries
D.what dictionary students should choose and how to use.
