It was a perfect day, just the right kind of day to go fishing
My 13-year-old son Jonathan and I had been     this trip for weeks, and now we were sitting on the shore of a beautiful lake.
We     and talked, and then, suddenly, I saw small waves     my float(浮子)had been. I waited, thinking it would pop right back up again, but the float stayed     the water and my heart started to beat    .After a few more seconds, my fishing rod was suddenly pulled off the stick it was leaning on    me and it was being     towards the water.
I firmly caught hold of the fishing rod and lifted it up. This fish was    ! Slowly, my son balanced on two rocks and leaned down to get the giant off the fishhook.
For just one second, he lost his     and reached up with his right hand to steady   . At that moment, our huge fish got off the fishing line and started to swim
I saw teas streaming down Jonathan's face. "Dad, I'm sorry. I'll never be able to   this up to you." I reached out and put my hands on his shoulders. I said the following     almost without thinking. "Jon, how did you feel    I was reeling(往卷轴上绕起)that fish in? Were you excited?" He nodded and said,"Dad,I've never been so   in my whole life!”I repied,
"Jon, wasn’t that about the most fun we've ever had together?" He nodded his head in
Then I said, "So, why should we let a fish getting away     possibly the best experience we've ever had? Let’s be happy about the fun we did have."
My son,     his arms around me, said,"Dad, I love you so much!”1     him back and said softly into his ear, "I love you too, Jon."
We     did catch that big fish. But I've known ever since that I didn't let the most important thing get away that day.

When Frida Kahlo’s paintings were on show in London,a poet described her paintings as “a ribbon(丝带) around a bomb”.Such comments seem to suggest Kahlo had a big influence on the art world of her time.Sadly, she is actually a_much_bigger_name today than she was during her time.
Born in 1907 in a village near Mexico City,Kahlo suffered from polio(小儿麻痹症) at the age of seven. Her spine(脊柱) became bent as she grew older. Then,in 1925,her back was broken in several places in a schoolbus accident.Throughout the rest of her life, the artist had many operations, but nothing was able to cure the terrible pain in her back. However, the accident had an unexpected side effect. While lying in her bed recovering,Kahlo taught herself to paint.
In 1929,she got married to Diego Rivera, another famous Mexican artist.Rivera’s strong influence on Kahlo’s style can be seen in her early works, but her later works from the 1940s,known today as her best works, show less influence from her husband.
Unfortunately, her works did not attract much attention in the 1930s and 1940s,even in her home country. Her first onewoman show in Mexico was not held until 1953.For more than a decade after her death in 1954,Kahlo’s works remained largely unnoticed by the world, but in the 1970s her works began to gain international fame at last.            (2012·安徽,C)

In his lowest days when few people bought his records, Taiwan singer Steve Chou (周传雄) lived alone in Canada and did little. One day, he passed by a local CD store and accidentally heard a song that greatly enchanted (迷住) him. His passion for music was suddenly rekindled (重新点燃).
“My heart tells me that music is the thing I truly want to do, not for fame or money,” Chou told Teens. “So I asked myself, ‘why not start all over again?’”
That's how we luckily regained this music genius, who has since then composed lots of hits for the pop music charts (排行榜). His emotional voice is enthralling (迷人的). "Sometimes we need to get close to nature to look deeply into our souls and see what we genuinely (真正地) want to follow," he said.
Following the success of Turkey in Blue, he has recently released his latest work Lovers Genesis. In this album he explores human relationships in the Internet age. This time, he takes the role of a calm observer rather than a struggling insider. "Technology itself is a good thing, but it depends on how you're going to use it," is Chou's advice to teenagers. Chou often gets his music ideas from trips. He has traveled to many places around the world and believes that learning a country's language is the fastest way of experiencing the culture behind it.

Once, long ago, there was a man who traveled from Persia to India on foot. He had       been to India before. When he arrived at a village, he happened upon a fruit stand. In that village, fruit was quite       because of the lack of water. The man was looking around at the fruits when he      a big basket of some very red, very long fruit. It was the cheapest fruit in the shop, not expensive at all.
the man walked up to the counter (柜台) and asked: “How       per kilo?” And the shopkeeper said: “Two rupees.” Two rupees in India is      . The man thought to himself: “What a       !” So he bought a whole kilogram of the fruit and began to       it. But after he tried a few pieces, he screamed: “Oh, my God!” His eyes watered, his mouth burned, and his face turned        . He coughed and choked and gasped for breath.
But despite his       , he continued to stuff the fruits into his mouth! Onlookers       their heads and laughed. One man yelled: “You’re       , man! Those are chilies! People use them as a condiment (佐料). You don’t just eat them by the handful like that; they’re not fruit!” But the man replied: “No, I can’t       ! I paid money for them, and now I’ll eat them. It’s my money!”
You probably think this man was pretty      , right? Nevertheless, I bet you or someone you know makes the same       on a daily basis. People invest money, time and effort into a relationship, business or job. Even when experience tells them that it’s not      , and they know there’s little hope of improvement, they still        because they don’t want to waste the previous investment. But this is       . It is no different than being the man who continued eating chilies because he didn’t want to waste the money he’d paid for them.
Losing something is difficult, but it is important to        the loss and move on.     you’ll just keep burning your mouth on hot chilies.

A friend of mine met with an accident driving in darkness. His legs were so hurt that he couldn’t move. What was the       was he found himself unable to ask for help — his mobile phone went out of        as a result of exhausted battery. Nothing could be done but to       in cold wilderness. It was 8 hours later that day broke, and then the        of the rescue.
It is almost       that he could stand the horror in the darkness for so long. Even more surprising was his       : "First of all I checked up my        conditions and found myself not in mortal (致命的)danger. As there was no way to call for help, I leaned back in my seat trying my best to keep the wound from      . In this way I dozed (打盹)off ."
His story put an end to my regret for the       of an exploration adventure that happened last year. A group of young men       to explore a mountain cave and got lost.        to find a way out in the dark cave they were frightened and ran anxiously without a sense of        .Finally they fell dead in fear and exhaustion. According to the       people that found them, the place where they got lost was only about 10 meters away from the        of the cave. If they stayed on the spot when they lost their way and tried to        themselves, they would probably sense a faint light glimmering (闪烁)not far away .
Don’t you think that you can compare it with        itself? When you meet with obstacles (障碍)in life and work, you are lost in darkness.     you it’s unclear yet and you needn’t put up struggle        . It seems to be a negative attitude,        a person who can afford to do so must have foresight as well as a great       in the first place.

It was the first snow of the winter---an exciting day for every child but not for most teachers. Up to now, I had been old enough to dress myself, but today I would need some help. Miss Finlayson, my kindergarten teacher, Ontario, had been through best snow days many times, but I think she may still remember this one.
I managed to get into my wool snow trousers. But I struggled with my jacket because it didn’t fit well. It was a hand-me-down from my brother, and it made me wonder why I had to wear the ugly clothes. At least my hat and scarf were mine, and they were quite pretty. Finally it was time to have Miss Finlayson help me with my boots.
In her calm, motherly voice she said, “By the end of the winter, you will all be able to put on your own boots.” I didn’t realize at the time that it was more a statement of hope than of confidence.
I handed her my boots and stuck out my feet. Like most children, I expected the adult to do all the work. After much pushing, she managed to get the first one into place and then, with a sigh, worked the second one on too.
I announced, “They are on the wrong feet.”
She struggled to get the boots off and went through the joyless task of putting them on again.
“They are my brother’s boots, you know, I hate them.”
Somehow, from long years of practice, she managed to act as though I wasn’t an annoying little girl. She struggled with me. She asked “now, where are your mittens(手套)?”
I looked into her eyes and said, “I didn’t want to lose them, so I hid them in the toes of my boots.”
