Dear Sir or Madam,

I¡¯ve learned from the newspaper that your company is looking for a receptionist. I¡¯m very interesting in the job and I¡¯d like to apply to the position.

First of all, allow me to introduce myself. I had just graduated from senior high school and taken the College Entrance Examination. I want to find out a part-time job in the summer. I¡¯m 18 years old and have good knowledge of English, especial in terms of speaking and listening. In fact, I won the first prize in the English speech competition hold in our school last year. Besides, I¡¯m quite easy-going but therefore very popular among my classmate.

I sincerely hope you can give us a chance. I¡¯m looking forward to your early reply.

Yours sincerely,

Li Hua

Worry problems are everywhere in our daily life£®How to solve them? The answer is that we must equip ourselves to deal with different kinds of worries by learning the three basic steps of problem analysis£®The three steps are:

Get the facts

Why is it so important to get the facts? Unless you have the facts, you can¡¯t possibly attempt to solve your problem intelligently£®Without the facts, all you can do is wondering around in confusion£®It is not an easy job to get facts£®When you are worried, your emotions are riding high£®__1.__.

When trying to get the facts, you can pretend that you are collecting this information not for yourself but for some other person£®__2.__You can also pretend that you are a lawyer preparing to agree£®Try to get all the facts both on your side and the other side of the case£®You will generally find the truth lies somewhere in between.

__3.__

Whenever you are worried, write down the questions that make you worry£®And write out all the various steps you could take and then the probable consequences of each step£®For example, what am I worrying about? What can I do about it? Here is what I¡¯m going to do about it£®After carefully weighing all the facts, you can calmly come to a decision.

Act on that decision.

__4.__ How can you break the worry habit before it breaks you? Crowd worry out of your mind by keeping busy£®Plenty of action is one of the best ways to cure worry£®__5.__ If you know a situation is beyond your power, say to yourself: ¡° It is so; it can¡¯t be otherwise.¡± Don¡¯t permit little things to ruin your happiness£®Try to cultivate a mental attitude that will bring you peace and happiness.

A£® Accept what can¡¯t be avoided.

B£® Analyze the facts.

C£® There comes a time when you must decide and never look back.

D£® But here are two ideas that can help you see the facts in a clear and objective way.

E£® Unless you take your action, all your face-finding and analysis is a sheer waste of energy.

F£® Decide how much anxiety a thing may be worth.

G£® This will help you to take a cold and fair view of the evidence.

Taj Mahal, Agra, India

As many as 28 different varieties of precious stones were used to decorate the outside of the Taj Mahal. Construction took around 20 years. The building, which was made from white marble from the quarries(²Éʯ³¡) of Rajasthan, appears pink in the morning, white in the day and golden in the moonlight.

Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, Akashi Strait, Japan

It took 10 years to construct the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. It connects the city of Kobe, on Japan¡¯s mainland, with Iwaya on Awaji Island. Before it opened, the only way to get between the two cities was by ferry. However, the waterway was at the mercy of severe storms and when two ferries overturned in 1955, killing 168 people, public anger convinced the government of the need for a bridge. It's the longest suspension bridge in the world, with a length of 1,991 meters.

Panama Canal, Panama

More than 4. 5 million cubic yards of concrete were used in the construction of this canal¡¯s locks and dams. The Panama Canal is a 47-mile long waterway that connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The earth and rubble dug to make way for it was enough to bury Manhattan to a depth of four meters. A series of locks allows ships to pass through the water. Each lock door weighs 750 tons and each lock fills with 52 million gallons of water to accommodate the 15,000 ships that use the canal every year.

Grand Canyon Skywalk, Arizona

The Skywalk¡¯s foundation is strong enough to support 71 million pounds , Located 1,219 meters above the Colorado River, the Grand Canyon's Sky Walk consists of one million pounds of steel and 83,000 pounds of glass. It was the creation of Las Vegas businessman David Jin, who approached the Hualapai Tribe with the idea of a glass walkway over the Grand Canyon in 1996. The Sky walk was assembled on site.

Most kids hate to see their summer end, perhaps none more than the Murset children. This summer, the Murset family decided to travel across the country to help families in need, which proved to be a wonderful experience.

People. comreported that Gregg Murset and his wife, Kami, decided to take their six children, ranging from 7 to 16 years old, from their home in Phoenix, Arizona, across the country to spend 20 days on the road to help 25 families in need. ¡°I told the kids and my wife over breakfast that I wanted to do this,¡± Gregg Murset, 40, told People. com. ¡°They all looked at me like I was crazy,¡± he said, ¡°but when we started to read the stories of people we were going to help, their attitudes completely changed.¡±

Through Gregg¡¯s company, he was able to be matched with groups such as Autism Speaks, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and others that connected the Mursets to families with children who have cancer and other serious illnesses.

¡°When you have a kid who is struggling, the last thing you¡¯re thinking of is cleaning the house,¡± says Gregg.

The family traveled to many cities in their journey, including Albuquerque, Denver, Kansas City, Chicago, and Buffalo. The trip covered 6,500 miles. ¡°It¡¯s been amazing to watch my own children open their eyes and see that the world is bigger than they think,¡± he said. ¡°Even the little kids are learning from this experience.¡±

And the families they¡¯ve helped feel blessed to have met them. ¡°They showed up at 8 a.m. and we had a list of things we needed help with,¡± said Jim Spencer, a 61-year-old father in Warren, Michigan, whose 12-year-old daughter, Lexi, was diagnosed(Õï¶Ï) with cancer a couple of years ago.

The Mursets also used their travels as an opportunity to visit areas they had never been to, including the Statue of Liberty. But for Gregg, the main purpose of the trip was to teach his children to show concern for the happiness of other people rather than for themselves.

¡°There is nothing wrong with your kid getting off the sofa, doing some work and sweating,¡± said Gregg. ¡°It¡¯s good for the kid and it¡¯s good for the soul.¡±

1. How did the kids feel when Gregg Murset first told the family about his plan?

A. Amazed. B. Excited.

C. Disappointed. D. Worried.

2.What did the family mainly do during their trip?

A. They toured places of interest.

B. They visited patients in hospital.

C. They worked with social groups.

D. They helped families in need of help.

3.During the trip, Gregg most wanted his kids to ________.

A. increase physical exercise

B. gain more geography knowledge

C. learn to be concerned about others

D. improve their communication skills

As it is known to all, travelling can be an excited experience. Let me give you some advice that you have to pay attention. You can find out more about your destination by surfing the Internet after you set out. You needn¡¯t take too many cash. Since it can be very convenient to pay in cash, using cheques are much more reliable. In addition, it will be wise for you to take an umbrella in case it should rain. And if you are to travel abroad, you¡¯d better learn anything about the cultural diversity in order to avoid any unnecessary embarrassment. Keep in mind that behaving good in foreign countries can help you have a wonderful trip.

From time to time I travel to town from my new country home. On this particular Saturday, it was Adam¡¯s turn to accompany me on the forty-five-minute drive---- a coveted(¿ÊÍûµÄ) pleasure.

Adam has a deep fondness of candy. If he knew there was a candy treat on the other side of a mountain£¬ he would move the entire mountain, stone by stone, to get the treat.

When we arrived, we walked toward the store. But I found Adam had fallen silent ¡ª his stare falling on something further down the street.

There an old man sat by the store entrance, begging. His gray sweater had many holes exposing a dirty T-shirt. He sat with his back to the wall, his hands cupped around an empty hat.

¡°Can I have my dollar, daddy?¡± I pulled a dollar and handed it to Adam and thought he would use it to buy his candy. ¡°Thank you, daddy.¡± He went away and I went on to choose something we needed. After a while we left the store and walked a few feet to the corner. While waiting for the light, I felt Adam gently slip his hand from mine. I turned watching him as he walked back to the beggar giving his dollar.

When he came back, I hugged Adam saying, ¡°Daddy is very proud of you, Adam. That was very thoughtful.¡±

¡°It certainly was,¡± confirmed(֤ʵ) a female voice to my right. I turned and watched a middle-aged woman place five dollars in the man¡¯s hat. ¡°May I?¡± she asked as she leaned over to kiss Adam¡¯s cheek. I nodded and smiled¡ªAdam smiled.

¡°Look, daddy.¡± Adam was looking over my shoulder to the beggar. A small group of people had gathered around him placing money in his hat. I couldn¡¯t help but recall a thought: A child shall lead them.

1.Why did Adam become silent when walking to the store?

A. Because he felt tired after the drive.

B. Because he noticed a beggar sitting by the store.

C. Because the beggar asked money from him.

D. Because he saw an old man sat before the store entrance.

2.What made the writer feel proud of his son?

A. Adam dared to walk alone on the busy road.

B. Adam was able to buy something for himself.

C. Adam shared his sweet with poor beggar.

D. Adam gave his money to the poor beggar.

3. What did the woman want to do by asking ¡°May I?¡±

A. She wanted to show her praise by kissing Adam.

B. She asked if she could give the beggar some money.

C. She intended to give five dollars to Adam in return.

D. She hoped to kiss the writer for his act of kindness.

4. From the passage, we can make a conclusion that ____________.

A. a child is often the first to love others.

B. a child can take the lead in loving others.

C. a child usually needs others to lead him.

D. a child sometimes should be led to do things.
