Today was the day of trying the new boat on the river．Nella jumped out of bed, got dressed quickly and woke up her brother Jed．

I was born an albino．No one in my family had ever known what an albino was，what it meant to be an albino，and what had to be done differently because I was an albino．
My parents treated me just like they treated everybody else．That was just about the best thing they could have done．It helped me trust myself，so when the annoyances came along，I could deal with them．

The Sultan of Oman had sent the tigers when Van Buren was elected, so Congress argued that the tigers belonged to the American people. A fight over the tigers continued for months. In the end, Congress sent someone to seize the tigers and put them in a zoo.
Twenty years later, President James Buchanan received another valuable gift when he was in his first year in the White House. This time, the King of Siam sent several elephants! Buchanan had no desire to share his building with the big creatures, so he sent them to the zoo. Buchanan did, however, keep another gift—a pair of birds.
