If you happen to find “On the Road” at a gas station or “Who Moved My Cheese?” in your grocery store, it might not be and accident. You could be the unwitting beneficiary of a “bookcrosser”---- a person who on purpose leaves books in public places hoping they’ll be found by strangers.
The idea o leaving a book for someone else to find and enjoy is not new ---- some people have been leaving just-finished books in airports and on buses since the dawn of the hurry-up-and-wait. Creating a system for book-leavers to find out what happened to those books adds a new way to the practice. Bokcrossing.com, the website that encourages books to be “released into the wild”, has more than 18,000 members since its start last year, and averages 112 new participants daily.
Its members have scattered(分发) more than 42,000 novels, self-help books, memoirs, technical manuals and biographies in 45 countries, leaving them in public restrooms, movie theatres, coffee studios or anywhere that they can imagine. The result: a worldwide living library.
Peri Doslu, a California yoga instructor, has dropped three--- one on top of a telephone booth, one on a rock wall at remote Mono Lake in the eastern Sierra Nevada, and another in one of the studios where she teaches.

As the pace(步速) of life continues to increase , we are fast losing the art of relaxation. Once you are in the habit of rushing through lift, being on the go from morning till night, it is hard to slow down. But relaxation is completely necessary for a healthy mind and body.
Stress is an natural part of everyday lift and there is no way to avoid it. In fact , it is not the bad thing it is often supposed to be. A certain amount of stress is vital to provide motivation and give purpose to life. It is only when the stress gets out of control that it can lead to poor performance and ill health.
The amount of stress a person can withstand(忍受) depends very much on the individual. Some people are not afraid of stress, and such characters are obviously prime material for managerial responsibilities. Others lose heart at the first signs of unusual difficulties. When exposed to stress, in whatever form, we react both chemically and physically. In fact we make choice between "fight" or "flight" and in more primitive days the choice made the difference between life or death. The crises(危机)we meet today are unlikely to be so extreme, but however little the stress, it involves the same response. It is when such a reaction lasts long, through continued exposure to stress, that health becomes endangered. Such serious conditions as high blood pressure and heart disease have established(确定的)links with stress. Since we cannot remove stress from our lives (it would be unwise to do so even if we could), we need to find ways to deal with it

  1. 1.

According to the writer, the most important character for a good manager is his ______.

    1. A.
      not fearing stress
    2. B.
      knowing the art of relaxation
    3. C.
      high sense of responsibility
    4. D.
      having control over performance
  2. 2.

    1. A.
We can find some ways to avoid stress
    2. B.
Stress is always harmful to people’s health
    3. C.
It is easy to change the habit of keeping oneself busy with work
    4. D.
Different people can withstand different amounts of stress
  3. 3.

In the last sentence of the passage, “do so” refers to ______.

    1. A.
      “expose ourselves to stress”
    2. B.
“find ways to deal with stress”
    3. C.
      “remove stress from our lives”
    4. D.
“establish links between diseases and stress”
  4. 4.

According to the author, the right attitude toward stress is ______.

    1. A.
      to avoid it
    2. B.
to try to deal with it
    3. C.
to regard it as a vital motivation
    4. D.
      to find some relaxation

The first visit to a foreign country that I can remember was when I was about seven years old. We live about 5 miles away from the Canadian border(边界). My family and I went to Parc Safari, Quebec, a wonderful place that has animals and rides. We drove down a nice long road. My sister and I sat in the back of the car, and it was a hatchback(有仓门式后背的汽车) so we opened it up. I remember feeding the animals snacks we had bought for ourselves.
The time we went we were told there would not be monkeys because they had escaped and had not been found. I remember thinking to myself, how cool it would be to see a monkey in our backyard.

You may never connect the words “good” and “eco-friendly”with plastic. It’s time to do a rethink on that as we say hello to hemp(大麻)plastic.Traditionally, plastics have been made from petrochemicals, which are mainly poisonous.Plants,on the other hand, are also a source of cellulose(纤维素),which can be used to make biodegradable (生物所能分解的)plastic. As hemp happens to be one of the richest sources of cellulose,it is only natural that scientists will support its use, considering its ecological benefits.
Hemp plastic is biodegradable and recyclable. If you thought being eco-friendly reduced its solidity, you couldn’t be more wrong. The hard level of hemp plastic can match that of regular plastic.Hemp plastic is resistant to heat;however, the most outstanding feature of a few varieties of hemp plastic is that they are flame resistant too. Finally,if Henry Ford could imagine creating a car with this material,we can perhaps believe that it indeed is“ten times stronger than steel”.
It is a pity that with so many useful qualities,we don’t see hemp plastic being used in our everyday life, the way it ought to be.Hemp plastic can easily take the place of the exiting plastic in products like cell phone chargers(充电器),laptop covers, etc.Currently, hemp plastic is being used to produce audio(音响设备),video, toys, automobile parts and packaging materials.
Hemp fiber is one of the strongest natural fibers known to us.As scientists keep looking for ways to solve the ecological damage that traditional plastics have caused, here is a material that can be produced to be 100% biodegradable.Hemp plastic is known to be several times durable as compared to polypropylene(聚丙烯)plastic, and it comes without all the health and safety threats,It really has long useful life.
Plastics keep reminding us of the damage that we have done to our planet, all under the excuse of convenience. As hemp products have become a new choice into our daily life,Please take a green plan now and make your effort to protect the environment

Back in old times, people had little knowledge about the universe and nature. Things we now consider to be common sense were mysteries to our ancestors.
Over the years, major breakthroughs have been made in science and many phenomena have been explained. But still, there are always questions we can't yet answer, and The Guardian has listed some of them.
1. What makes us human?
Just looking at your DNA won't tell you - human DNA is 99 percent identical to that of the chimpanzee and, believe it or not, 50 percent identical to a banana's! A lot of the things we once thought were unique about us - language and tool use, recognizing ourselves in the mirror and so on – have since been seen in other animals. Perhaps it's our culture that makes the difference or maybe our ability to use fire. It's also possible that our capacity (能力) for co-operation and our trading skills are what make us unique.
2. Why do we dream?
Given the fact that we spend around a third of our lives sleeping, shouldn't we know everything about it? Unfortunately, scientists are still searching for a complete explanation of what happens when we sleep and why we dream.
Austrian psychologist Sigmund Freud believed dreams were the expressions of wishes that we can't fulfill in our real lives. Others have wondered whether dreams are just random "noise" coming from a sleeping brain.
3. Could we someday live forever?
Apart from accidents, most people die because of diseases that can be treated and aging. And since many diseases, such as diabetes(糖尿病) and cancer, are diseases of aging, treating aging itself could be the key to extending our lives.
Our knowledge of what causes us to age - and what allows some animals to live longer than others - is expanding rapidly. And though we haven't quite worked out all the details, we've worked out some pieces of the puzzles such as DNA damage and metabolism (新陈代谢), which are all leading to the invention of drugs that can slow down the aging process.
If we're lucky enough to lengthen our lives, we might even get to see the day when all of these questions are answered

  1. 1.

The main point of the passage is ______

    1. A.
to inform people of the knowledge about the universe and nature
    2. B.
to introduce major breakthroughs that have been made in science
    3. C.
to present some questions we can't yet answer
    4. D.
to explain what were once mysteries to our ancestors
  2. 2.

    1. A.
human beings are actually not different from other animals
    2. B.
animals have completely different DNA from that of plants
    3. C.
both animals and plants share the same amount of DNA
    4. D.
DNA alone is not good enough to make humans different
  3. 3.

What’s a “gift”? If you look it up in the dictionary, you’ll see that it’s another word for a present. For example, “They brought him some gifts.” However, if you’re German, “gift” means something completely different: poison!
This word “gift” is an example of a false friend--- a word that looks the same in two languages, but which actually has two different meanings. As English is basically a mixture of German, French and Latin, there are many words that are similar in these languages. For example, the English word “education” is “education” in Spanish. And the English words “word, book, nine, house” are “Wort, Buch, Neun, Haus” in german.
These similar-looking words can be very helpful when learning other languages --- they’re our “friends”. However, sometimes they can turn out or be “false friends”. Here are a few examples.
In English, someone who is “sensible” thinks before they act and shows good judgement. For example , “The sensible thing to do would be to consult a lawyer.” However, in Spanish, “sensible ” means “sensitive” (showing understanding of other people’s problems, needs or feelings).
The English word “coin” refers to a piece of money made of metal. For example, “I had a few coins in my pocket.” But the French word “coin” means “corner”.
The English word “library” is a place where you can go to borrow books. For example, “I borrowed six books from the library.” But the Spanish word “libreria” refers to a bookshop (where you buy books).
The English word “actually” means “in fact”. For example, “Actually I’m not Italian, I’m form American.” But the Spanish word “actualmente” means “currently” or “at the moment”.
Finally, the English word “embarrassed” means “ashamed”. For example, “They looked a bit embarrassed.” However, the Spanish term “embarazada” means “pregnant” (with a child)
