It happened many years ago, and I was in high school then. Being a student from a 1family, I had to work on weekends to make some extra money that my family couldn’t really2to give me, and one day after work I lost my wallet.
My old car3 gas in the back. I paid for the gas and then put my wallet on the bumper(保险杠),and drove off. I hadn’t even had time to4 it when my phone rang and an old man asked me 5 I had lost my wallet. I checked the 6 of my jacket and to my horror, I had. He asked me to tell him how much money was7 it, and I told him. He then told me where to 8 my wallet.
As I drove into his driveway, I 9 that his car was for the 10. I was thinking that there was no way this man could11 get out of hid car and get my wallet off the12. He had to pull over, 13in his wheelchair, lower the lift, and then pick it up, I was 14.
I knocked on the15 and he told me to come in. I thanked him like 10 times for16 my wallet. While I didn’t want to make him angry by offering him17, I really felt like offering something. So I asked him if there was anything I could do to repay his 18, and he said, “Just pass 19 on.” I really wanted to thank him, so I20 promised I would.

We all know that some things are obviously right. For example, it is right to be 1 to other people. It is also right to look after the environment. Some things are 2 wrong, too. For instance, we should not hurt or bully(欺负)others, nor should we litter. Rules often tell us what is right or wrong.
Rules can help the public make the right 3, and remain safe. Car drivers have to obey traffic regulations that tell them the right things to do on the road to avoid crashes. Cyclists who give signals before turning or stopping help prevent 4.
If people follow rules without taking other matters into consideration, it will be 5for them to form what is sometimes called a “black and white” view (黑白分明的观点). For example, they may believe that people should always tell the truth, and that lying is 6acceptable. Such people always stick to their views, even if it means that they may get into7.
Sometimes it may not be so easy to know 8 what is right or wrong. Some people choose not to eat meat because they believe that it is 9 to eat animals, but others argue that they can eat meat and 10 be kind to animals; some insist that stealing is always wrong, but others think that one does not need to feel so guilty (有罪的) when stealing some food to eat, if he lives in a really poor area and he is starving.
Rules help us live together in harmony, because they show us the right way to treat others. However, some people argue that rules may be confusing, having observed that rules change all the time, and that some schools have some regulations and others have different ones---so who is to decide what is right?

Many people of my generation(代,一代) say that there is no hope for the future because of the way that 1 people behave today.
Their first argument(论点) is that when we were young we used to look after the 2 people in our community and help them. They also say that young people today don’t 3 about anything or anyone. Several months ago I was involved in a car accident. That moment1my views on life.
All my life I had been waiting2I could get my driver’s3and my first car. When I4got my license and my dad brought the car to the house, I felt very5. From that day on, the most6thing in my life was that car. Every day I would get home and7what else I could do to make it better. My car was my8and joy and when I had fixed it up into “perfect” condition, I finally began to9it. Every time I got into my car I felt the greatest,10nothing could stop me, but one day I was11that just like any other person, I could be broken.
One night, though it was too12outside to see clearly, I was in the13with my friends. I felt unstoppable while driving,14soon enough I was shown that I wasn’t. While driving down a main street I felt I was15the car. It was flying. When I16what was happening, the only thing I could do was protect my friends from being hurt badly.
After the accident I don't remember much, but I do remember the17I was in, not only physical but also the thought that the lives of others were18for a few seconds and I may have dropped them. The memory of that day will never19me. I learned that material things should20be the most important things in your life. I also learned that I need to appreciate the things and people around me.

完形填空
One day a few years ago we had a guest of the uninvited variety. In fact, it was a bird, 1a sparrow.
“What’s that?” I asked when I first heard the gentle thumping(重击声). “It sounds like Joe is outside playing basketball,” my wife, Anita, said. She 2 and listened more devotedly. “It’s coming from the3.” she said. “Maybe it’s one of the little kids.”
We rushed out the door. Jonathan, our youngest, was4to make trouble. “If he’s making holes in the wall again…” I said as I searched there. No children 5. But there was that6again, coming from right up there.
And that’s when I7the sparrow. It was flying8just inches below the ceiling. It was9trying to get out, but couldn’t see that the way out wasn’t up, but down10the open door. So the bird continued11its wings and hitting its head against the12.
“Poor thing,” Anita said. “It must be13.”
“Well, maybe it’s because of us,” I said as I moved toward it. I tried to show the bird how to glide(滑翔) down to get outside, but that only seemed to14 it more. “Why don’t we just15for a few minutes?” Anita suggested. “I’m sure he’ll 16eventually.” So we went back into the house, where we continued to hear the ongoing17.Then suddenly, it was silent. We looked into the garage, and our uninvited guest was gone.
“See?” Anita said. “I told you he’d succeed.”
“Yeah,” I said. “But how many knocks on the head did it18him?”
I’ve thought about that little sparrow through the years. Just like that sparrow, we often meet situations we don’t know how to19. Born to go upward, we don’t even consider the possibility that something good might happen if we stop flapping(拍打)around and just glide 20a little bit.
