A man enters a store to buy milk. He walks out of the store with milk. That is all―milk. At the same time,a woman enters the same grocery store also to buy milk.

She buys it. But,she also buys chicken and lemons to make dinner that night. Then she remembers to buy food for her son to eat at school. She also gets a bottle of wine for drinks with friends and a birthday card for her husband's niece.

And that is the difference between the female and male brains. It is simply explained in a grocery store.

Generally speaking, men do one thing at a time. Women do many. Doing many things at a time is often called "multitasking," a very popular word these days.

A recent study has proved what we have known all along―men and women think differently. Scientists at the University of Pennsylvania studied brain pictures of 949 people aged from 8to 22 years old. They found that male brains have more connections on one side of the brain. In the female brains, they found more activity and connec?tions between the right and left sides of the brain. The left side of the brain is known as the side of "reason". The right one is known as the "creative" side.

Regina Verma is a professor at the University of Pennsylvania. She cowrote the report. She says when women are asked to do something difficult they might use different parts of the brain. Men,she adds, generally use just one side of the brain.

As a result, men generally deal directly with a prob?lem. Women, however, might include other parts of the brain, like the part connected with reason and the part connected with sensitivity (敏感) when solving a problem.'

Women take a less direct path to find a solution.

23. What's the writer's purpose of telling the story?

   A. To make readers happy.

   B. To advise readers to buy things.

   C. To introduce the topic of the text.

   D. To encourage readers to read the text.

24. How does the woman deal with a problem?

   A. Directly. B. Indirectly.

   C. Strongly. D. Carefully.

25. What's the main idea of the text?

   A. Men and women really think differently.

   B. Women use two sides of the brain to think.

   C. More people believe and support a familiar story.

   D. Men generally use one side of the brain to think.

26. What can we infer from Paragraph 5?

   A. There were 949 old people taking part in the re?search.

   B. The people taking part in the research were verj young.

   C. Male brains have more connections on right sick of the brain.

   D. Male brains have strong connections on both side; of the brain.

A The summer I was ten,my mother de?cided to bring us to the world of art. My brother and I were not very excited when we realized what my mother meant. What she meant was not that we could take drawing classes or painting classes but that we would have to spend one afternoon a week with her at the Fine Arts Museum. Before each visit to the museum, she made us read about artists and painting styles. It was almost as bad as being in school. First we had to read about ancient Egyptians and their strange way of painting faces and then go to look at them at the museum. My 12-year-old brother thought this was so funny, but I was not interested. Later we had to learn about artists in the Middle Ages who painted people wearing strange long clothing. We had to look at pictures of fat babies with wings and curly (蜂曲的) hair and with no clothes on flying around the edges of paintings. I cer?tainly couldn't see what was so great about art.

On our last visit to the museum, something happened when I saw a painting by a woman called Mary. In it,a woman was reading to a child. The colours were soft and gentle, and you could tell by the mother's expression how happy she was just to be with the child.
