14.When asked to point out one or two things that are most important to themselves,many put friends ahead of homes,jobs,clothes and cars.
A true friendship carries a long history of experience that determines who we are and keeps us connected.It is a treasure we should prove it.Unfortunately,the better friends you are,the more probably you'll have disagreements.And the result can be what you don't want an end to the relationship.
The good news is that most troubled friendships can be mended.First,don't let your pride get in your way.Most of us can forgive each other when differences are brought out in the open.Second,apologize when you're wrong-even if you've been wronged.Over the course of friendship,even the best people make mistakes.Sometimes,it may be best if the   wronged person takes wrong.Third,see things from your friend's point of view.And finally,accept that friendships changes as our needs and lifestyles change.Making friends can sometimes seem easy.The hard part is keeping the connections strong during the nature ups and downs that have an effect on all relationships.My suggestion:Consider friendship an honor and a gift,and worth the effort to treasure and nurture.

33.What would be the best title for the text?C

A.who has been mistaken for another
B.who has been blamed unfairly
C.who has treated friends badly
D.who has admitted his mistakes
35.According to the text a friendship can last long only ifC.
A.we have much in common

13.My father's family is not a musical family.They are a family of words.My brother has my father's dark hair,his love of a good argument.I take after my mother.From her I inherited a curious nature,a sense of adventure,bright red hair.I did not,contrary to her hopes,inherit a talent for the piano.That fact was established beyond doubt after unsuccessful attempts to draw music from me.
The piano lessons began when I was four.My mother was convinced that I would be a child Mozart.She found the ideal teacher-Madame Oblenka,a strict Russian woman,whose pursed lips were enough to frighten a wild horse into submission.Madame Oblenka,who expected a little Mozart,was not very delighted to find a little girl banging her fists(拳头) on the keys.
I tried to please her."Feel the music,"she urged.I"felt"it and winced(退避) my ears-for what is more unpleasant than a series of wrong notes played continuously?She"felt"my music,too,which is why she always left with an angrier expression than when she came.
Once,when I was ten,I managed to record one of my own rehearsals(练习).In order to escape my practice sessions,I would close myself behind the door of the piano room,put on the tape recording,and read until the tape had finished.That method worked for a week,until my mother began to wonder why I always missed the same B-sharp.She knocked on the door,and,receiving no answer,came in to check on me and found that I had fallen asleep while the tape of my performance played on and on.
I was twelve when my parents finally acknowledged that my hidden talent was not about to emerge(显现) any time soon.My mother,refusing to admit defeat,told me to pick another instrument."Choose anything you want,Honey,"she said,assuming that freedom of choice would inspire devotion.I thought long and hard and chose the drums.My parents,sensitive to noise,would be less than overjoyed by a daily bombardment of playing.I imagined my father in his study,cotton wads in his ears.
I worked my way through several other instruments before my mother hit on another idea.Maybe I wasn't meant to be an instrumentalist.Realizing that drama might be more suited to my talents,Mom took me to a drama teacher.However,he put me backstage,painting scenery.Once I recovered from my sense of injury,I realized the wisdom of his choice.I loved the active,practical backstage world,and I discovered that I had a knack for constructing and painting.I loved the challenge of taking our scanty(贫乏的) supplies and using them to make something beautiful.Imagining a scene and then seeing it emerge before me-this,to me,was close to magic.
I'm a sculptor now,and every day I experience afresh the joy of being fully absorbed in the act of artistic creation.It's a wonderful,blissful(乐而忘忧) feeling.I realize that my parents,in their misguided attempts to interest me in music,were trying to give me this feeling.And now I feel grateful.Perhaps they went about it in the wrong way,but their hearts were in the right place.

12.The Best Ways to Offer Support and Encouragement
Whether it is a friend, family member,or coworker,at some time or another somebody will need support and encouragement. This could be the result of a disappointing change in life,a health change or other similar challenges.(36)EEven if you do not think that you have the ability to offer the proper support and encouragement,your willingness to be there and to listen may be enough.
Each situation is different,and each would require different levels of both support and encouragement.(37)GHelping keep up someone's spirits when they are feeling helpless just by letting them know you are there,can make a serious difference in their lives.
(38)BFor people in this situation,often a telephone call,or dropping in to say"hello"is more than enough.You may not feel that you are doing much of anything,but to the person who is feeling isolated the effort you take to stop and see them,or call them can make a big difference.For someone who has recently lost a job,you may be able to offer support by helping them network effectively.Or,you may be able to help them craft a new resume,apply for benefits,or a number of other"small"things that may seem insignificant to you but to them can be a very significant event.
(39)DHowever,if you let them know that you are there for them,and make it a point to check in with them regularly,they may soon feel more comfortable and share them with you.Take for example a person who is suffering with depression.
(40)AThey may not be willing to admit that there is something wrong.However,if you trust your instincts(直觉) and take a little extra care to support and encourage them even in little ways,you can make a huge difference in their overall outlook.

A.You know that there is something wrong.
B.All too often,people feel isolated and do not know where to turn.
C.So you may need support and encouragement to pull through.
D.You may not always understand all of the issues going on in someone's life.
E.In such cases,it is natural for you to reach out and offer your support and encouragement.
F.You know better than anyone the best ways to support and encourage someone who is going through a difficult time.
G.The support you offer could be as simple as helping with simple household tasks,running errands(跑腿儿),or even being available for telephone calls.

9.Some people bring out the best in you in a way that you might never have fully realized on your own.My mom was one of those people.
My father died when I was nine months old, making my mom a single mother at the age of eighteen. While I was growing up,we lived a very hard life.We had little money, but my mom gave me a lot of love. Each night, she sat me on her lap and spoke the words that would change my life,"Kemmons, you are certain to be a great man and you can do anything in life if you work hard enough to get it."
At fourteen,I was hit by a car and the doctors said I would never walk again.Every day,my mother spoke to me in her gentle, loving voice, telling me that no matter what those doctors said,I could walk again if I wanted to badly enough. She drove that message so deep into my heart that I finally believed her.A year later,I returned to school-walking on my own!
When the Great Depression (大萧条) hit,my mom lost her job. Then I left school to support the both of us.At that moment,I was determined never to be poor again.
Over the years,I experienced various levels of business success. But the real turning point occurred on a vacation I took with my wife and five kids in 1951.I was dissatisfied with the second-class hotels available for families and was angry that they charged an extra﹩2 for each child. That was too expensive for the average American family.I told my wife that I was going to open a motel (汽车旅馆) for families that would never charge extra for children. There were plenty of doubters at that time.
Not surprisingly, mom was one of my strongest supporters. She worked behind the desk and even designed the room style. As in any business,we experienced a lot of challenges. But with my mother's words deeply rooted in my soul,I never doubted we would succeed.Fifteen years later,we had the largest hotel system in the world-Holiday Inn.In 1979 my company had 1,759 inns in more than fifty countries with an income of﹩1 billion a year.
You may not have started out life in the best situation. But if you can find a task in life worth working for and believe in yourself, nothing can stop you.

5.Spellmasters Spelling Competitions
Spellmasters Spelling Competitions are open to all school children aged 15 years old or younger. There are two divisions:Junior and Senior.
•Words used in all competitions will be chosen from The Macquarie Dictionary.
•The competition is conducted orally.Once the pronouncer has given the speller the word to spell, the speller should say the word aloud so that the judges can hear it clearly.
•Once the speller has repeated his word,he has one and a half minutes to complete the spelling. At the 60-second mark, the speller will be informed (e.g.ring of a bell) that he has 30 seconds left to complete the spelling.A second ring of the bell at 90 seconds will show that time is up.If the speller hasn't completed the spelling of his word at the 90-second mark,he is immediately disqualified.
•The speller may ask the pronouncer to say the word again, define it,use it in a sentence, provide the part of speech or provide the language of origin. The pronouncer shall accept all such requests until the judges agree that the word has been made clear to the speller.Root word questions will not be accepted.
•Once a speller starts to spell the word, each letter he says can't be changed. The speller may choose to pause and then continue with the spelling of the word.
