20.The Hollywood film,"The Martian",opens to U.S.audiences on October 2.Actor Matt Damon stars as an astronaut left alone on Mars.His crew returned to Earth thinking he had died in a windstorm.Damon's character,Mark Watney,must survive with few supplies and somehow get a message to Earth that he is alive.
The plan to release the movie this week was some lucky timing.On Monday,the U.S.space agency NASA announced it had found strong evidence of liquid water on Mars.That again raised the possibility that,with liquid water,there could be life.
NASA also took a part in the development of"The Martian".Director Ridley Scott and Matt Damon reached out to agency officials for help to make the story as scientific as possible.
So how scientifically accurate is"The Martian"?Jeffrey Luger of Time magazine tried to answer that question.He pointed out two of the biggest falsehoods of the film.The first,Mr.Luger writes,is central to the story:a powerful,dangerous windstorm that forces the space crew to leave the planet.The very low density atmosphere of Mars,Mr.Luger argues,could not create a storm like that.Mr.Luger also has trouble with the lack of danger from radiation on Mars.He notes that the six-month trip to Mars alone would expose the astronaut to 15times more radiation than is permitted for nuclear energy workers in a year.
But Popular Science reported much realism in the details.Science writer Sarah Fecht points to Astronaut Watney's struggle to work in astronaut clothing,especially the gloves.And,an expert she spoke with said the stiff gloves are a real problem.They are very difficult to bend.
"The Martian"is receiving excellent reviews from top critics.Anne Hornaday calls it a"spirited example of how cool science can be".Mike D'Angelo describes"The Martian"as a"celebration of our ability to solve even the most difficult problems".

32.In"The Martian",Mark WatneyB.
A.had no food to eat
B.was left alone on Mars
C.had to stay on Mars for good
D.couldn't send a message to earth
33.From the passage,we know that NASAC.
A.has already found life on mars
B.has a plan to send human beings to the Mars
C.played a role in producing"The Martian"
D.thought"The Martian"is scientifically inaccurate
34.According to Jeffrey Luger,which of the following is a falsehood of"The Martian"?D
A.Watney's struggle to work in astronaut clothing is untrue.
B.The space crew had to leave Mars because of lack of oxygen.
C.The low density atmosphere of Mars produced a smaller storm.
D.Radiation on Mars seemed to have little effect on Watney's health.
35.We can infer from the passage thatA.
A."The Martian"is a science-fiction film
B."The Martian"is a film about colorful life on Mars
C."The Martian"is likely to win an Oscar Award
D. NASA uses"The Martian"to help people understand Mars.

19.When I returned to the common,the sun was setting.The crowd around the hole had increased,and stood out black against the lemon yellow of the sky-a couple of hundred people,perhaps.There were really,I should think,two or three hundred people elbowing one another,the one or two ladies there being by no means the least active."He's fallen in the hole!"cried someone."Keep back!"said several.The crowd moved a little,and I elbowed my way through.Everyone seemed greatly excited.I heard a peculiar humming sound from the hole.
"I say!"said Ogilvy;"help keep these idiots back.We don't know what's in the puzzling thing,you know!"
The end of the cylinder(圆柱体) was being screwed out from within.I turned,and as I did so the screw(螺丝钉) must have come out,for the lid of the cylinder fell upon the ground with a ringing shock.For a moment that circular cavity seemed perfectly black.I had the sunset in my eyes.
I think everyone expected to see a man emerge-possibly something a little unlike us earthly men,but in all essentials a man.But,looking,I presently saw something exciting within the shadow:clumsy movements,one above another,and then two disc-like eyes.Then something resembling a grey snake,about the thickness of a walking stick,climbed up out of the twisting middle,and moved in the air towards me-and then another.
A sudden chill came over me.I stood frightened and staring.A big gray rounded bulk,the size,perhaps,of a bear,was rising slowly and painfully out of the cylinder.As it bulged up and caught the light,it looked like wet leather.
Anyone who has never seen a living Martian can scarcely imagine the strange horror of its appearance.The peculiar V-shaped mouth with its pointed upper lip,the absence of brow ridges,the Gorgon groups of tentacles(触手),the unstable breathing of the lungs in a strange atmosphere,the evident heaviness and painfulness of movement due to the greater gravitational energy of the earth-above all,the extraordinary intensity of the huge eyes,which was unforgettable-were at once vital,intense,inhuman,and monstrous.There was something fungoid in the oily brown skin,something in the clumsy deliberation of the tedious movements unspeakably nasty.Even at this first encounter,this first glimpse,I was overcome with disgust and dread.

73.Why was the crowd"elbowing one another"according to paragraph 1?B
A.There were no officials to control them.
B.They were curious and wanted to get a good view of the hole.
C.They were angry and trying to push people into the hole.
D.They were trying to get away from the hole in fear.

A.it did not look like the other Martians that had arrived earlier
B.it arrived on Earth in a strange and nasty-looking cylinder
C.it was moving surprisingly slowly for a Martian
D.like most people,he had thought it would resemble a human
75.A"sudden chill"(paragraph 5)came over the narrator becauseC.
A.the Martian was heading directly towards the crowd

C.he saw the Martian's terrifying features as it climbed out of the cylinder

18.In the twilight,we begin the journey together down the endless sandy beach.As nightfall sweeps across the sky,the sudden darkness catches me by surprise and she becomes only a hazy (模糊的) figure in the black.I do not have to look to know she is still there walking beside me.That sweet,comforting scent that only a mother can wear,a smell that a child will never forget silently assured me.It reminds me of my childhood days and I can barely see two figures in the dark.Slowly the shadows take shape,and transform into a woman and a girl of five years of age.Scenery appears from the dark corners and a simple house comes into view.
The rich blue sky spreads itself broadly behind it.It is all clear now and I carefully watch them playing in the small backyard,beneath a towering mango tree.A homemade swing formed from a piece of white painted wood and two thick ropes hangs on the branches.The little girl slowly pushes herself on the swing.Singing happily,she gazes at her surroundings with large,innocent eyes.Moving around her,the woman sweeps up the fallen leaves.Suddenly the girl cries out to her mother and with a smile,she stops sweeping and carefully pulls the swing back,then gives it a great push.The little girl's face lights up in delight and her long,black hair floats behind her.I watch the scene in bittersweet memory,and the longing to return to my childhood days overcomes me.Gently,the scene disappears and the sea brings me back to the dark beach with the waves pounding in my ears.
The sky becomes hazy and I see the same woman and a thirteen-year old girl in the black distance.The clouds slowly disappear and they are sitting outside in the cool night on a wooden porch talking quietly.I cannot hear.It is as if I am watching a silent movie.The woman makes a movement as if to take the girl's hand and point out constellations(星座) in the beautiful sky above them.The girl jerks(甩开) her hand away,embarrassed.Ignorantly,she fails to notice the woman's face gazing at her in disappointment.Looking down,the girl is absorbed in arranging the flowers into different patterns on the brown wood.The woman is staring eagerly at the girl,trying to make conversation,and using her hands to gesture.Yet the girl never once looks up,never says more than a few words.I watch helplessly,as the woman feels more and more frustrated and hopeless.Unaware of her mother's feelings,the girl continues to shut her out.Suddenly,the woman stands,throws her hands down at the girl and enters the house in tears.I watch with shame the events taking place before me,and wish desperately that I could change them.
In the moonlight upon the sand,I realize our two sets of footprints have begun to separate with the slightly larger ones up towards the dry sandy hill,and the smaller ones down towards the sea water.Neither pair of footprints intended to drift apart,it is just how the journey goes.The beach fades as a new scene appears.Beneath my feet,the soft sand is replaced by a cold white floor.Bright lights shine on me from the ceiling,and soon I feel sweat dripping down my face.The line begins to move.
"Time to go."I whisper.She does not say a word,but smiles a watery smile and holds my hand tightly.Slowly she lets go,but I continue to cling to her hand,desperate in the moment.The excited emotions I had felt a week ago were gone,and only the sick feeling of leaving home existed.We look at each other,and in that gaze,a thousand words pass between us.I drop her hand and wrap my arms around her back tightly,giving her a long squeeze.Unwillingly,we tear apart and I head slowly down the long corridor,looking back once,twice,to see if she is still standing there,watching me.I smile as my eyes fill with tears,and turn the corner.
Everything blurs(变模糊),and I shake my head to clear the haziness.I am lost in the cool sea breeze.Looking up at her,I feel the desire to run and wrap my arms around her legs as I once used to.I long for her to walk beside me,my companion along our journey once again.Staring at her turned head expectantly,she turns and catches my eye and holds the gaze for a long time in pure silence.Giving a gentle smile,she walks down toward me.Together,we continue our journey to the end of the beach,her footprints and mine.

12.I stayed for a while in Costa Rica years ago.One morning I was shopping in a local farmers mar-ket.I loved that market. The selection of produce was exceptional!
I had parked my car a few blocks away at Firestone. An hour into my shopping,I reached in my purse for my phone.I dug around searching and searching…no phone!
I had butterflies in my stomach since the zipper(拉链) was not zipped on my bag and perhaps my phone fell out or got picked up by wondering hands.
I went around to all the venders (摊主) I had visited asking if they had come across a lost iPhone.
But no such luck.
Disappointed,I walked out of the market with all my fresh organic produce. In front of me was an older lady walking slowly with a heavy bag in each hand.I observed many people passing her.At first I thought of doing the same,as I was worried about my phone. But then I heard a voice in my heart say-ing"help her".
