14.The Making of a Surgeon
How does a doctor recognize the point in time when he is finally a"surgeon"?As my year as chief resident (进修医生) drew to a close,I asked myself this question on more than one occasion.
The answer,I concluded,was(50)D.When you can say to yourself,"There is no surgical patient I cannot treat competently (胜任地),treat just (51)B or better than any other surgeon"--then,and not until then,you are indeed a surgeon.I was (52)D that point.
Take,(53)A,the emergency situations that we met almost every night.The first few months of the year I had (54)C the ringing of the telephone.I knew it meant another critical resolution to be (55)A.Often,after I had told Walt or Larry what to do in a particular (56)D,I'd have trouble getting back to sleep.I'd (57)B all the facts of the case and,often,wonder if I had made a poor decision.More than once at two or three in the morning,after lying (58)A for an hour,I'd get out of bed,dress and drive to the hospital to see the patient myself.It was the only way I could find the (59)A of mind I needed to relax.
Now,in the last month of my residency,(60)C was no longer a problem.Sometimes I still couldn't be sure of my decision,but I had learned to accept this as a (61)B problem for a surgeon.I knew that with my knowledge and experience,any decision I'd made was certain to be a (62)C one.It was a nice feeling.
This all sounds conceited (自负的) and I guess it is--but a surgeon needs conceit.He needs it to encourage him in trying moments when he's bothered by the (63)D and uncertainties that are part of the practice of medicine.He has to feel that he's as good as and probably better than any other surgeon in the world.Call it conceit--call it self-confidence; whatever it was,I had it.And it is,I am sure,what a person has to make a(n) (64)B in life.

13.3D films are fun一of course they are,even the bad ones.But these movies are still in their infancy.The question is whether 3D filmmakers can do better.
I have no doubt they will,but I believe they will achieve cosmetic changes around the edges rather than revolutionary breakthroughs.3D filmmakers don't realize,or at least have not sufficiently taken to heart,that the medium they're working in is binocular (同时用双目的)film,not merely 3D film.And once one realizes this,it is possible to see that whole fields of potential film experience have been left entirely untapped.
When we say 3D movies,we are referring to stereopisis (立体视觉).But binocular vision refers to the use of two eyes for vision,whereas stereopsis is just one of the functions binocular vision gives us.
Why do we have such a large binocular vision field in the first place?I have argued in my book,The Vision Revolution,that we have forward-facing eyes in order to see well in cluttered forest habitats.Our large binocular field evolved for seeing past layers of clutter( 一堆杂乱的东西),and integrating two different views of a scene into a single combined view.I call this function of binocular vision"X-ray vision"because it allows us to see the clutter as semi-transparent,something through which to see the scene beyond.
If 3D filmmakers are going to throw binocular images at our big binocular field,then they should be sending us views of the kind that field evolved to process:views within cluttered environments,whether leafy forests or spider-web-filled rooms.In this light,3D film ought to put the viewer into the bodies and eyes of characters in the story,placing him or her into the interactions between the characters and their surroundings.This would allow viewers to truly see out of the eyes of others,to experience other worlds,and yet not have the views of the scenes beyond blocked out,just as in real life.A simple first step forward is to begin calling them binocular movies,not 3D movies.

47.The underlined word"cosmetic"in the second paragraph is closest in meaning to"A.
A.seeming
B.welcome
C.unnecessary
D.thorough
48.According to the author,why have 3D filmmakers not made a breakthrough?D
A.They are short of resources.
B.They are satisfied with what they have achieved.
C.They don't know how 3D really works.
D.They don't know what 3D technology can really achieve.
49.What would binocular movies be able to do?B
A.Take advantage of X-rays.
B.Make use of cluttered images.
C.Place viewers within real cluttered environments during movies.
D.See the surrounding world through the eyes of other viewers.
50.What is the main idea of the text?C
A.The evolution of binocular vision.
B.The problems 3D filmmakers face.
C.How binocular vision can be exploited in 3D films.
D.The differences between binocular films and 3D films.

I began to grow up that winter night when my parents and I were returning from my aunt's
House,and my mother said that we (25)would leave/be leaving/were leaving (leave) for America soon.We were on the bus then.I
was crying, and some people on the bus were turning around to look at me.I remember I could not bear the thought of never hearing again the radio program for school children to (26)which I listened every morning.
I do not remember myself (27)crying (cry) for this reason again.In fact I think I cried verylittle when I was saying goodbye to my friends and relatives.When we were leaving I thought aboutall the places I was going to see.The country I was leaving never to come back was hardly in my head then.
The four years that followed taught me the importance of optimism,but (28)theidea did not come to me at once.For the first two years in New York I was really lost.I did not quite know what I was or what I should be.Mother remarried,and things became even (29)more complex       (complex) for me.Some time passed before my stepfather and I got used to each orher.However,my responsibilities in the family increased a lot since my English vas superior (30)to anyone else's at home.I translated at interviews with immigration officers,and even discussed telephone bills with company representatives.
From my experiences,I believe that my life will turn out all right (31)even though/ifit is not that easy.
