3．Last Sunday I was thinking about the difference between successful people and those who don't achieve anything significant．I made an interesting discovery．This difference may at first look obvious，but it's quite opposite．（36）C
Everyone has a purpose behind their actions．If they don't，they wouldn't take action!（37）G  When they take action，at the back of their minds they think about success that this action is going to bring them．
（38）D    What's the purpose behind your actions？Do you work to thrive（成功）or to survive？Do you go to work to feed your family or to create an amazing lifestyle？
Different purposes will result in completely different life experiences．People who work to survive are the ones who fear that some unexpected bill will arrive．They go to bed worrying about money and unimportant things．They hate their employment but don't quit because they doubt their own abilities to create something greater．I know this kind of feeling because I was like that once．That's a very uncomfortable state to be in because you are constantly worried about insignificant things．（39）F   Therefore，you cannot achieve anything great．
Now there are some people who don't accept the"Life is hard"story and they are fuelled by an entirely different purpose．They work to thrive．（40）A   They have a beautiful vision and they take constant action to make that vision a reality．

A．And they don't think about why something cannot be done．
B．Such attitude invites great opportunities to you．
C．It lies in what motivates people to take action．
D．So let me ask you a few questions．

2．Crows Have Had a Bad Press
（36）EThey are smarter than any cat and sometimes children too．But despite this，they have a bad reputation．
"There are a few reasons for this，"says Kevin J．McGowan，a U．S．bird expert，who has studied crows for 25years．"One is that they're black，and in western European culture，that's bad．（37）DSo somebody died，lying on the side of the road，and the crows came in and picked at it because there it was，free food．"
Crows are also attacked by gardeners．It's not deserved，says John Marzluff，professor of wildlife science at the University of Washington．U．S．Marzluff says crows do more good than harm to a garden．"They eat a great variety of crop pest insects，"he said，"so in the family garden they are a good natural insecticide．"

Crows have strong family values．They come closer to human beings in social behavior than any other animal studied．Crow society is family-based．（39）G．When you see a number of crows gathering，they're usually family groups that are helping each other make a living．
A crow has a big"vocabulary"．It can make around 30calls unique to itself，each with a different meaning．From their calls，crows can tell the difference between family members，neighbors and strangers．
Young crows like to play．They get an object like a leaf or a feather and they chase each other around，trying to get the object．Then whoever gets it gets chased．
（40）FThey let others know when they are calm，angry，fearful and playful．Some crow emotions and behavior are amazing，such as leaving goodies-candy，keys or shiny glass-for people who feed them，or pooping on the cars of people who bother them．

Four steps for fighting stress，try taking these four steps，the next time you are stressed：

One of the things that always makes me chuckle is when I am in the supermarket or out and about and I see a young mother with her child．The mother is often busy multi-tasking，picking up items，calculating prices and soothing her young child all at the same time，while the child is engaging with the people around them．（78）AUsually the mother is completely unaware that her child is engaging in social interaction．Some babies smile at every passing person，undoubtedly developing the charm that will open many doors for them in later life．
Aside from all of the incidental ways that your child engages in social interaction，it is important to purposely set up opportunities for your child to socialize and interact with other children their age．（79）    Households with many children can be ideal for providing natural opportunities for children to interact socially．However today's typical household contains just one or two children．
（80）FOrganizing play dates with other children their age is great，as is enrolling them in some type of activity for toddlers at the local library．Look around your community for activities that are safe，social and stimulating for your child and begin to purposefully involve your child in these activities for their social development．

G．This gives them healthy opportunities to begin to develop socially．

Now I have learned to deal with my allergies and even see the good side sometimes．Having allergies has taught me not to be prejudiced about people's health conditions．

Why does a clerk in a store go away when your reply to her offer to help is，"No，thank you．I'm just looking．"？Both you and she know that if you aren't sure what you want，you are not likely to find it．But suppose you say instead，"Yes，thank you．I want a pair of sun glasses．"She says，"Right this way，please．"It's quite the same with your studying．If you choose a book，"just looking"for nothing in particular，you are likely to get just that-nothing．（52）FYour reasons will vary； they will include reading or studying"to find out more about"，"to understand the reasons for"and"to find out how"．
（53）ABefore you start to study，you say to yourself something like this，"I want to know why Stephen Vincent Benet happened to write about America"．Because you know why you are reading or studying，you relate the information to your purpose and remember it better．
Reading is not one single activity．（54）D As you read，you take in ideas rapidly and accurately．But at the same time you express your own ideas to yourself as you react to what you read．You have a kind of mental conversation with the author．
This additional process of thinking about what you read includes evaluating it，relating it to what you already know，and using it for your own purposes．（55）B One part of critical reading，as you have discovered，is distinguishing between facts and opinions．Facts can be checked by evidence．Opinions are one's own personal reactions．Another part of critical reading is judging sources．Still another part is drawing accurate inferences．
