However,at one time, the pressure of examinations, too much homework and the high expectations made me depressed.I was tired of the warning that if didn't do my best,I wouldn't have the chance to go to college. Thanks to your encouragement; if not,I wouldn't have realized my dream. And now I really understand you.I wish more and more of your students could go to their ideal college. Are you still too busy? How I miss you!
I'm hoping to hear from you soon.

18.Nothing succeeds like success,as every parent of a straight-A student knows, but trying to highlight academic excellence by telling your child,"You're so smart,"may be counterproductive(负效的).Telling kids they're smart strengthens the idea that intelligence is a genetic gift rather than a skill that can be developed.
In a recent study, researchers at Michigan State University looked at 123 children who were about 7.The team assessed the children to determine whether they had a"growth mindset(思维模式)"(believing that you can work harder to get smarter),or a"fixed mindset"(believing that your intelligence is unable to change). They then asked the children to complete a fast-paced computer accuracy task while their brain activity was recorded. In the task, children played a game, helping a zookeeper capture escaped animals by pressing the space bar when an animal showed up in their screen-unless it was a group of three chimps.During the recording, researchers noted that brain activity spiked within a half-second after making a mistake,as children became aware of their error and paid closer attention to what went wrong. The larger the brain response, the more the children focused on the error.
Based on the data they collected, the researchers concluded that children with a"growth mindset"were much more likely to have a larger brain response after making a mistake, and in turn were more likely to improve their performance by paying closer attention to the task after making an error.
For parents, the lessons are clear:don't pay compliments(赞扬)that suggest that intelligence is fixed. If a child hands you an A+test, don't say,"You're so smart!"Instead say,"Wow,that studying really paid off!"Note the effort, not the intelligence.Second, focus on using errors to work together and learn."Many parents and teachers shy away from addressing a child's mistakes, telling them"It's OK.You'll get it next time."without giving them the opportunity to figure out what went wrong."Dr.Schroder says. Here are additional ways you can help enhance your child's education.

32.What can learn about children's mindset from the study?C
A.Children are born with a fixed or growth mindset.
B.Children with a fixed mindset pay no attention to mistakes.
C.Children with a growth mindset are more likely to make progress.

A."You are so clever!"for excellence.
B."It's not good enough."for excellence.

35.What would be the best title for the passage?A
A.Never Call Your Kid Smart
B.Always Be Strict with Your Kid

17.A principal in Manhattan informed parents that there would be no more homework for the public school's students.And then came the arguments---not from teachers,but from parents.Some said they would transfer their children to another school.Some said they were finding online sources of homework for their children.They were not convinced by the explanation from Principal Jane Hsu about the negative effects of homework on young children,including lack of time for other activities and family time,and loss of interest in learning.Hsu suggested children should spend their time on activities that had been found to be good for their academic,social and emotional development.
As a supporter of Hsu's approach,I wonder how many of the parental arguments occur not because of what children will miss out on,but because parents themselves no longer feel confident about their ability to help their children develop without highly structured activities to guide them.
I'm reminded of a meeting at the school my younger daughter was about to start when she was 6.The head of the school met with parents to say that she was also considering doing away with homework.One mom objected because homework was her"special time"each day with her child when they could sit down together to go through the work.The head of the school appeared surprised at this.She gently suggested that the mother should read to her child,or that they should cook dinner together.
It's been sad to see that kids,between their structured soccer practices and their homework,have very little time to play.But it's even sadder to see the parental nervousness around what might happen to a third-grader who has more time to create,think,read,interact with others,or imagine.What might happen,I believe,must be more happiness,more energy and better physical fitness.

32.From the passage,we knowB.
A.teachers are strongly opposed to giving no homework to their students
B.the idea of no homework has led to a heated debate
C.children greatly benefit from the idea of no homework
D.other activities have taken the place of the homework
33.Why did one mom object to the idea of no homework for kids?C
A.Her child might lose interest in learning.
B.Her child might have less time to think.
C.She enjoyed the time doing homework with her child.
D.Homework is good for children's academic development.
34.What is the author's attitude towards Principal Jane Hsu's suggestion?B
A.Indifferent.
B.Positive.
C.Negative.
D.Critical.
35.The passage is mainly aboutD.
A.whether the parents should transfer their children to public school
B.the benefits of doing homework
C.the necessity of changing the education system
D.whether the students should do homework after school.
