Dear Editor,

I’m a middle school student naming Li Ming. I’m writing to tell you something. Recently I’ve notiecd many of my classmates often to go to the cyber cafe (网吧) near our school. The other day I went here, too. I was surprised to see many students played computer games, seeing films or chatting. Some students were even talking about love affairs online. On my opinion, cyber cafes should be a place which we can find much useful informations. Internet should be a window to the outside world rather than a place for games. Internet is good if we make good use it. Otherwise, it will do us great harm. So the local government should take measure to make sure that students use cyber cafes positive.

Right in front of the Minneapolis Central Library, a row of green bikes sits parked in a special stand. Each bike is designed with the logo “ Nice Ride”-- the name of the city’s bike-share program.

Nice Ride bikes are a lot like the library books that people come here to borrow. To rent a bike, you simply use your membership card at a Nice Ride bike station. Members can rent one of l, 200 bikes from 138 stations throughout Minnesota’s largest city. People use the Nice Ride bikes to go to work, to go out on business , or just to enjoy the city’s many bike paths.

The rise of bike-share programs like Nice Ride is encouraging more people than ever to choose biking over driving. Skyrocketing gas prices and concerns about the environment have also gotten people to dust off their bike helmets, pump air into flat tires, and hit the road.

Why ride? Not only is biking good exercise but switching from a car to a bike also cuts down the  amount  of pollution  in  the  air. Carbon dioxide, a greenhouse  gas linked to climate change, is one of the many polluting substances that come out of a car’s tail pipe.

Bike-share systems are found around the world in cities like London, Paris, Barcelona, and Melbourne, Australia. The largest program with 70,000 bikes--is in Wuhan, China.

To make roads friendlier to non-motorists, the U. S. Department of Transportation has invested more than a billion dollars in cycling and pedestrian projects in recent years. The money went toward building thousands of miles of on-street bike lanes and pedestrian-only passages called greenways.

1.Which of the following can people do with the bikes?

A. Earn a living. B. Enjoy bikeways.

C. Compete in a race. D. Rent them out to others.

2.What is Paragraph four mainly about?

A. Benefits of biking. B. Pollution caused by cars.

C. Methods to use the bikes. D. Measures to decrease pollution.

3.Which of the following is true of Nice Ride?

A. China has better public bike systems.

B. It will take the place of taxi companies.

C. It attracts more people to choose biking.

D. The government lacks money to support it.

4.What is the author’s purpose in writing this text?

A. To seek advice for Nice Ride.

B. To compare Nice Ride with libraries.

C. To raise money for bike-share programs.

D. To introduce the bike system in public places.

For many people, being on the job might just sound like a picnic compared to a day at home filled with housework, meals and childcare.Even for those with a happy family life, home can sometimes feel more taxing than work.

In a new study, researchers at Penn State University found significantly and consistently lower levels of cortisol(皮质醇)released in response to stress,in a majority of subjects when they were at work compared to when they were at home. This was true for both men and women, and parents and people without children.

Both men and women showed less stress at work. But women were more likely to report feeling happier there. Men were more likely to feel happier at home.Experts say there are other reasons why work is less stressful than home for many."Paid work is more valued in society,"says Sarah Damaske, the lead researcher on the study. "Household work is boring and not particularly rewarding."

We get better at our job with time and the increased competence means less stress and more rewards.Yet none of us,no matter how long we've been doing it,ever truly feels like an expert at parenting or even at marriage.

The support and friendship of co-workers also offer stress relief. At home, meanwhile, stress spreads and accumulates(积累)quickly."That's the reason why most housewives wish they were the bread earners,"Dr.Damaske says.

Much of the advice to families and couples include the warning to "leave work stress at the office" and even to change our mind-set (思维定式)from work to home, for example,a walk around the block. The recent findings, though, suggest our home life, not our attitude, might be due for some change.

1.Which of the following can replace the underlined word "taxing"?

A. stressful. B. cheerful.

C. worthwhile. D. rewarding.

2.What did the research in the second paragraph prove?

A. Men felt better at home.

B. Women felt they had less time.

C. Women were easier to feel happier.

D. Most people felt more stress at home.

3.According lo the recent findings, what should we change to solve the problem mentioned?

A. Our attitude. B. Our mind-set.

C. Our home life. D. Our working style.
