    Sanguine

    Sanguine people have appealing personalities．Everyone wants to be around them．They are natural and exciting，and they know how to have fun!

      But sanguine people have weaknesses，too．They can be too talkative and too loud．They sometimes speak without thinking．

    Choleric  

    These people aye the leaders among us．Words like coincident，independent and motivated （有动机的）describe choleric people．They know exactly what they want，and won’t stop until they get it! They are usually adventurous and willing to take risks．

Melancholic people are very clever and sensitive to beauty．But they often doubt themselves and become sad easily．

    Phlegmatic

    Most people get along well with phlegmatic people because they are relaxed，peaceful and easygoing．They are usually patient，and lead well balanced lives．They rarely get upset，and they can easily calm others down．

    Phlegmatic people take life slow and easy．But this can be a weakness as well as a strength, Phlegmatic people can be unmotivated and unsure．

    Understanding yourself

    Regardless of what kind of people you are，your personality is not set in stone．You can develop strengths that do not conic naturally to you．You can also work on your weaknesses．

New rules will let millions of Americans know where more of their food comes from. The law is known as COOL-- Country of Origin Labeling（标签）

American Congress first passed the law in 2002. Stores have had to label seafood by country of origin since 2005. But industry pressure delayed other requirements until last week.

Products that must now be labeled include fresh fruits and vegetables, muscle meats and some kinds of nuts. But the rules are complex, and many foods are excluded.

For example, organ meats are free to be labeled. So are processed foods, including cooked or smoked foods.

The United States has imported more and more food in recent years to save money and expand choices. Country-of- origin labeling has become more common lately but has still been limited in many stores.

Food safety is one reason why some shoppers pay close attention to where foods came from. For example, when a large number of people recently got sick from salmonella（沙门氏菌）, officials blamed peppers from Mexico. Yet the last big food scare involved spinach（菠菜）grown in California. But labeling is also a way for people to know they are getting what they want. Some want to buy local foods or foods from a particular country.

The country-of-origin labeling law gives stores 30 days to correct any violations that are found. Stores and suppliers that are found to be deliberately violating the law could be fined 1000 dollars per violation. Federal inspectors are not to take action to enforce the law for six months to give time for an education campaign.

Some food safety activists say they are generally pleased with the law. They call it a good step that will give people more useful information.

The study by Save the Children is part of a new campaign aimed at improving the health and education of mothers around the world. Also, only three percent of the women use a system to prevent pregnancies. In these countries, one in twelve women die during childbirth. But, the death rate for women during childbirth is only one in six thousand.

Save the Children says more educational programs for mothers and girls will improve the ability of women to raise healthy babies. The group says millions of lives could be saved if more money were invested in training programs. Family planning alone could prevent one- fourth of all deaths among new-born babies and their mothers. It would teach women to wait two or more years between births.

Everyone has heard of the San Andreas fault （断层）, which constantly threatens California and the West Coast with earthquakes. But how many people know about the equally serious New Madrid fault in Missouri?

Between December of 1811 and February of 1812, three major earthquakes occurred, all centered around the town of New Madrid, Missouri, on the Mississippi River. Property damage was severe. Buildings in the area were almost destroyed. Whole forests fell at once, and huge cracks opened in the ground, releasing some strong smell chemicals.

The Mississippi River itself completely changed character, developing sudden rapids and whirlpools （激流和漩涡）. Several times it changed its course, and once, according to some observers, it actually appeared to run backwards. Scientists now know that America’s two major faults are essentially different. The San Andreas is a horizontal （水平的） boundary between two major land masses that are slowly moving in opposite directions. California earthquakes result when the two masses make a suddenly move.

The New Madrid fault, on the other hand, is a vertical fault; at some point, possibly hundreds of millions of years ago, rock was pushed up toward the surface, probably by volcanoes under the surface. Suddenly, the volcanoes cooled and the rock collapsed, leaving huge cracks. Even now, the rock continues to settle downwards, and sudden sinking motions cause earthquakes in the region. The fault itself, a large crack in this layer of rock, with dozens of other cracks that split off from it, extends from northeast Arkansas through Missouri and into southern Illinois.

Scientists who have studied the New Madrid fault say there have been numerous smaller quakes in the area since 1811; these smaller quakes indicate that larger ones are probably coming, but the scientists say they have no method of predicting when a large earthquake will occur.
