Dear son,
The day that you see me old and I am already not in good health, have patience and try to understand me.
If I get dirty when eating, if I can not dress, have patience and remember the hours I 1teaching it to you. If, when I speak to you, I 2the same things thousand and one times, do not 3me, listen to me. When you were small, I had to read to you thousand and one times the same story 4you got to sleep. When I do not want to have a 5, neither shame me nor scold me. Remember when I had to chase you with thousand excuses I 6, in order that you wanted to bathe. When you see my 7little about new technologies, give me the necessary time and do not look at me with your mocking (嘲弄) smile. I taught you 8to do so many things: to eat good, to dress well, to confront life.
When at some moment I lose the memory or the 9of our conversation, let me have the necessary time to remember, and if I cannot do it, do not become nervous, as the most important thing is not our conversation but surely to be with you and to have you 10to me.
If ever I do not want to eat, do not force me. I know well 11I need to and when not. When my 12legs do not allow me to walk, give me your 13, the same way I did when you gave your first14.   And when someday I say to you that I do not want to 15any more -that I want to rest forever, do not get angry. Someday you will understand.
Try to understand that my age is not lived but survived. Some day you will discover that, 16my mistakes, I always wanted the 17thing for you and that I tried to prepare the way for you. You must not feel sad, or angry for seeing me 18you. You must be next to me, try to understand me and to help me as I did it when you 19living. Help me to walk, help me to end my way with love and 20. I will pay you by a smile and by the immense love I have had always for you.
I love you, son.

Money, or the lack of it, changes everything, and that includes how people will be working out in 2010.
In these belt-tightening times1, cost-conscious workouts(锻炼)at home and at the gym topped the list of fitness trends for this year in a survey, followed2by shorter, more time-efficient regimens, such as3boot camp(强力集中训练) and circuit training.
"People are looking4for ways to accomplish as much as possible with as little5time and money as necessary," said Cedric X. Bryant, chief science officer of the American Council on Exercise (ACE), which conducted the online poll of fitness professionals.
"Last year money was on the list but this6year the majority of the respondents put7it as one of the top," he added.
Bryant said some 600 ACE-certified fitness8professionals responded to the annual poll9, which the non-profit organization has been conducting for a decade.
Other money-saving measures10, such as the shift from personal training sessions to small group training11classes and in-home workouts12using smaller, more portable equipment, also made the list.
"Personal trainers are seeing they've got to respond to market needs13. Working with two to four clients at a14time they can charge less15but still get their hourly fee," Bryant said.
Boot-camp workouts and circuit training, both of which burn16calories while building strength and endurance(持久性), will be among the most popular trends in 2010, as time-constrained(受压制的) consumers17seek shorter, more intense activities.
One bright spot is the rise of exergaming-type systems, like Nintendo's Wii Sports, Wii Fit and the PC-based Dancetown. Bryant says the fitness-based video games are turning up18in health clubs and senior centers.
Functional training workouts, which are geared to improving the quality of life and the ability to perform everyday tasks, will remain strong19, and the use of computerized tracking and online training and scheduling tools will increase20in the coming year.

The measure of a man’s real character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out. ---Thomas Macaulay
Some thirty years ago, I was studying in a public school in New York. One day, Mrs Nanette O’Neill gave an arithmetic1to our class. When the papers were2she discovered that twelve boys had made exactly the same mistakes throughout the test.
There is nothing really new about3in exams. Perhaps that was why Mrs O’Neill didn’t even say a word about it. She only asked the twelve boys to4after class. I was one of the twelve.
Mrs O’Neill asked5questions, and she didn’t6us either. Instead, she wrote on the blackboard the7words by Thomas Macaulay. She then ordered us to8these words into our exercise-books one hundred times.
I don’t know about the other eleven boys. Speaking for9I can say:it was the most important single10of my life. Thirty years after being introduced to Macaulay’s words, they11seem to me the best yardstick(准绳), because they give us a way to 12ourselves rather than others.
13of us are asked to make14decisions about nations going to war of armies going to battle. But all of us are called15daily to make a great many personal decisions.16the wallet, found in the street, be put into a pocket or turned over to the policeman? Should the 17change received at the store be forgotten or18? Nobody will know except19. But you have to live with yourself, and it is always20to live with someone you respect.

I love spending weekends with my grandparents. I felt especially welcome and1in Grany’s small kitchen. It was there that we had conversations and Grany always seemed to include a bit of2with every recipe she prepared.
I remember one Saturday morning3. After breakfast I asked Grany, “What kind of soup are you making today?” “Vegetable beef,” she answered, “And you can help by chopping some carrots and celery.” As I slowly peeled carrots, I4, “I’ve got to give an oral work report next week and I’m5.”
Grany looked at me and said, “Most people are afraid of6speaking. But remember, the only thing you have to fear is fear7.”
“But I don’t like standing up in front of everybody.8I forget what I’m going to say?”
“Have you prepared9?” asked Grany.
“Well, no. That would be a lot of10work.”
“But do you like my soup?” she asked. Soup? I wondered. I thought we were talking about my life.
“I love your soup, Grany.” I said.
“Well, you know, a lot of people don’t11homemade soup these days. They say it’s too much trouble. First you have to cook a nice broth(肉汤)and then chop all the vegetables into bite-size pieces.”
“But I don’t12a little trouble,” she said. “It adds variety and flavor to my soup and to my life. My soup would be13bland(淡而无味的)without the vegetables, and so would my life if it didn’t have the little14.”
After pausing she added, “Besides, you have to remember God knows exactly15he’s cooking up in your life. You’ve got to trust him with the recipe.” She smiled and then walked to the sink to start washing the dishes.
While I help Grany16, I thought as well what she had said. I still had a few days to17my oral report.
That Saturday, Grany gave me food for thought as well as a bowl of her homemade soup. Every spoonful of Grany’s masterpiece was18with delicious bits of meat and vegetables. As I enjoyed the meal with my grandparents,19my problems didn’t seem quite so big any more. I was determined to work on them. Grany had said hard work20. Maybe I too could turn a little trouble into something as special as Grany’s homemade soup.tesoon
